Abstract

(57)【要約】 【課題】 非膠着性の比較的高い電流密度の被覆剤を具
備する改良された二極式電気外科用器具を提供する。 【解決手段】 二極式電気外科用器具10は、電極保持
部分12を有し、該電極保持部分12から電極13及び
14が延びる。該電極13及び14は、好ましくはニッ
ケルを含有しないクロムからなる被覆剤13a及び14
aを有する。該被覆剤はステンレススチールの2倍の熱
伝導性を有し、電極13及び14の生体組織接触部分か
ら迅速に熱を伝導させ、電極のステンレススチール部分
での熱を放散させる。

【発明の詳細な説明】
【0001】
【発明の属する技術分野】本発明は、二極式電気外科器
具に関し、特に被覆された二極式電気灸器具に関する。
さらに詳細には、比較的高い電流密度にて電気灸を施す
ことができる二極式電気灸器具に関する。
【0002】
【従来の技術】当業者であれば公知のように、現代の外
科技術は典型的には無線周波数灸を用いて、外科手術の
際の出血を止める。かような技術の沿革及び詳細は、米
国特許第5,196,009号明細書に記載されてい
る。該米国特許明細書に記載されているように、電気外
科手術を行う際に生じる典型的な問題は、灸を施された
生体組織が焦げること、及び外科器具の表面に生体組織
が膠着することである。前記米国特許は、かような問題
を解決するために、全体がニッケルからなる第1及び第
2のブレード部分を製作した。これは、コストが高いだ
けでなく、焦げた血液及び生体組織の膠着を十分には防
止できていない。さらに、ニッケルは生体反応性である
から、生体組織との接触に用いることは望ましくない。
【0003】焦げ及び膠着の問題は、ある種の被覆剤が
特に興味ある特性を有することが開示されたことで大幅
に改善されている。例えば、ある種の厚さを有するテフ
ロン被覆剤を単極式電気外科用器具に用いると、興味あ
る電気特性を保持しながら、焦げた生体組織の膠着が大
幅に減少されることがわかっている。かような被覆剤の
一例が、米国特許第4,785,807号明細書に記載
されている。しかしながら、かような被覆剤を二極式器
具に用いると、これらの利点が消失するかあるいは大幅
に改善されるかのいずれかとなる。ゆえに、二極式電気
外科器具に用いた場合にも優れて効果的な改良された被
覆剤が必要とされている。
【0004】
【発明が解決しようとする課題】本発明の目的は、改良
された二極式電気外科用器具を提供することにある。
【0005】本発明の別の目的は、非膠着性の比較的高
い電流密度の被覆剤を具備する二極式電気外科用器具を
提供することにある。
【0006】
【課題を解決するための手段】本発明によれば、(a)
(i)第1の作用面を有し、無線周波数電気灸電圧電源
からの2つの電気接点のうち第1の電気接点と相互連結
する第1の電極と、(ii)第2の作用面を有し、無線
周波数電気灸電圧電源からの2つの電気接点のうち第2
の電気接点と相互連結する第2の電極と、を有する外科
器具、及び (b)該第1及び第2の作用面の少なくとも生体組織に
接触する部分上に配置され、外科用ステンレススチール
の少なくとも2倍の熱伝導性を有するニッケルを含有し
ない金属(ニッケルフリーメタル)からなり、灸を有効
とするために無線周波数エネルギーを伝達する被覆手段
を備える二極式電気灸器具が提供される。前記金属は、
外科用ステンレススチールの少なくとも2倍の熱伝導性
を有し、好ましくはクロムが多い(クロムーリッチ)組
成物材料である。該金属を電気外科用器具の外側作用面
に塗布して、比較的高い灸用電流密度の使用を可能とし
ながら、非膠着性を改良する。
【0007】本発明によれば、改良された外科器具が提
供される。すなわち、二極式電気外科器具の外科用ステ
ンレススチール作用面は、該ステンレススチールの少な
くとも2倍の熱伝導性を有する薄い金属製被覆剤で被覆
されている。この被覆剤の厚さは、約0.0001〜
0.0005インチの範囲にあることが好ましい。被覆
剤材料の正確な組成は変えることができる。しかしなが
ら、好ましい被覆剤材料は、ニッケルを含有せずクロム
を多く含有する組成物であり、具体的にはElectr
olizing Inc.(10 Houghton
Street,Providence, Rhode
Island 02904, U.S.A.)から「M
E−92」として販売されている組成物がある。「ME
−92」は、高精度で非磁性で医学的に安全で、USP
Class VI Tripartite/ISOで
認定されたニッケルを含有せずクロムを多く含有する組
成物であり、ステンレススチールのRc80の硬度を有
する表面被覆剤を提供する。これは、非常に滑らかで、
微小なモレキュラーグレインの非孔性被覆剤である。さ
らに、組成物被覆剤のいかなる破壊もなしに二極式外科
技術に用いられる場合に生じる比較的高い電流密度に
て、無線周波数電気エネルギーを効率的に且つ効果的に
伝達することがわかっている。

【好ましい実施形態】以下、本発明の添付の図面を参照
しながら詳細に説明するが、本発明はこれらに限定され
るものではない。
【0009】さて、図面、特に図1を参照すれば、本発
明による二極式電気外科器具が示されている。二極式電
気外科器具10は、電極保持部分12を有し、該電極保
持部分12から電極13及び14が延びる。該電極13
及び14は、好ましくはニッケルを含有しないクロムか
らなる被覆剤13a及び14aを有する。鉗子、ブレー
ド、ニードル、パドル、ワッフル等の形状の二極式電極
を有することが慣習である。電極保持部分12には、無
線周波数エネルギー源(図示せず)への慣用の電気接点
が設けられる。
【0010】図2には、電極13及び14が示される。
電極13及び14は、上述の組成物材料からなる比較的
薄い被覆剤13a及び14aで作用面が被覆されてい
る。かような被覆剤の厚さは、約0.0001〜0.0
005インチの範囲が好ましいが、図面上では明瞭にす
るために拡大して示してある。本明細書で用いられてい
る「作用面」とは、患者の生体組織と接触する電極13
及び14の作用面ばかりでなく、生体組織と接触しない
電極保持部分12に向かって後方に延びる部分をも意味
する。延ばされた被覆は、電極13及び14の生体組織
接触ポイントからの迅速な熱伝導を確実なものとし、か
ような電極のステンレススチール部分での熱を放散させ
る。これは、非膠着性を発現させるために役立つ。
【0011】用いることができる他の金属被覆剤は、
金、銀、アルミニウム等の生体組織に対して無毒であ
り、外科用ステンレススチールの少なくとも2倍の熱伝
導性を有する金属である。
【0012】電極保持部分12において、定置に電極1
3及び14を保持し且つ電極13及び14の間に必要と
される電気絶縁性を与える慣用の絶縁性材料(図示せ
ず)がある。電極の先端部13a及び14aは、前述の
無線周波数電気エネルギーを搬送する電気導線の慣用の
接続を促進するように延びる。
【0013】上述のように、本発明によるクロム含有率
の高い被覆剤は、慣用の単極式電気外科器具を被覆する
ために用いられる場合には効果的ではないとされてい
た。しかしながら、予想に反して、被覆剤は二極式器具
と一緒に利用されると、普通でない興味ある非膠着性を
発現することが見出された。この理由は、完全には理解
されていない。二極式電極のステンレススチール電極
は、単極式電極よりもはるかに大きなサイズ、場合によ
っては20〜40倍の大きさであること、熱伝導性は面
積に依存することが知られているので、熱を伝導するこ
とができる面積が大きくなるほど、より多くの熱が電気
灸の場所から離れて電極の他の領域に伝達される。瞬間
的な被覆剤は、単極式電極上で可能な被覆面積よりも大
きな面積を被覆すること、及び瞬間的な被覆剤は非常に
高い熱伝導性を有することから、灸の場所から非常に大
きなキャパシティのヒートシンクとして作用するステン
レススチール基体(単極式電極の場合よりもはるかに大
きい)まで熱を迅速に伝達するので、灸の場所の熱蓄積
を最少化し且つ電極への残渣の膠着を最少化するとして
理論づけられる。
【0014】したがって、クロムで被覆することによっ
て、接触ポイントから二極式電極の主要なステンレスス
チール部分までクロム被覆剤に沿って迅速に熱を伝導す
ることができ、灸によって発生した熱を迅速に放散さ
せ、膠着なしに灸を可能とする。

【発明の効果】本発明の二極式電気灸器具によれば、灸
を施すことによって生じる熱を迅速に放散させることが
できるので、生体組織を焦がすことなくまた焦げた生体
組織が電気灸器具に膠着することもない。よって、電気
灸器具からの無線周波数エネルギーを有効に用いること
ができる。

Claims (5)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項1】 (a)(i)第1の作用面を有し、無線
    周波数電気灸電圧電源からの2つの電気接点のうち第1
    の電気接点と相互連結する第1の電極と、(ii)第2
    の作用面を有し、無線周波数電気灸電圧電源からの2つ
    の電気接点のうち第2の電気接点と相互連結する第2の
    電極と、を有する外科器具、及び(b)該第1及び第2
    の作用面の少なくとも生体組織に接触する部分上に配置
    され、外科用ステンレススチールの少なくとも2倍の熱
    伝導性を有するニッケルを含有しない金属(ニッケルフ
    リーメタル)からなり、灸を有効とするために無線周波
    数エネルギーを伝達する被覆手段を備える二極式電気灸
    器具。
  2. 【請求項2】 請求項1の二極式電気灸器具であって、
    前記被覆手段は、ニッケルを含有せずクロムを多く含有
    する組成物であることを特徴とする二極式電気灸器具。
  3. 【請求項3】 請求項2の二極式電気灸器具であって、
    前記被覆手段は、0.0001〜10.0アンペア/c
    2の範囲の電流密度にて前記無線周波数エネルギーを
    伝達することを特徴とする二極式電気灸器具。
  4. 【請求項4】 請求項1の二極式電気灸器具であって、
    前記被覆手段は、前記第1及び第2の作用面を被覆する
    ことを特徴とする二極式電気灸器具。
  5. 【請求項5】 請求項1の二極式電気灸器具であって、
    前記被覆手段は、約0.0001〜0.0005インチ
    の範囲の厚さを有することを特徴とする二極式電気灸器
    具。
