Abstract

(57)【要約】 【目的】 放送などの実時間ビデオ番組を観賞中に、電
話などで観賞が一時的に中断されても、その間のビデオ
番組の部分を引き続き観賞できるようにする。 【構成】 チューナ１２によりビデオ・チャンネルを選
択し、選択されたビデオ・チャンネルからのビデオ信号
をダイナミック・バッファ１６に連続的に蓄積する。ビ
デオ観賞を中断する際に、そのときのダイナミック・バ
ッファのアドレスをマークする。中断後、マークしたア
ドレスにより、ダイナミック・バッファの内容を高速又
はスキップ状に読出して、実時間のビデオ番組に追いつ
く。その後は、再び、実時間のビデオ番組を観賞する。

【発明の詳細な説明】
【０００１】
【産業上の利用分野】本発明は、実時間ビデオ信号の処
理、特に、実時間ビデオ信号の遅延、レビュー及び連続
性を管理することにより、ビデオ画像における時間を歪
曲させる装置及び方法に関する。
【０００２】
【従来の技術】実況ビデオ、放送ビデオ、一方向ケーブ
ル・ビデオ及び有料ビデオにおいては、時間と直結した
ビデオ信号を発生している。すなわち、番組は、ある時
間に開始し、一定割合で所定期間放映される。多くの場
合において、番組が開始すると、観察（視聴）者はビデ
オ信号源に対して制御できない。このような場合のビデ
オを「実時間」ビデオと呼ぶ。この実時間ビデオを見て
いる際に、電話機やドアー・ベルに答えたり、家族の用
事や、事務所内を歩行中の人に応答したりするために、
視聴者が他に注意を向けると、その番組の情報や楽しみ
を逃してしまう。このように情報や楽しみの機会を失う
のを避ける１つの方法は、番組をビデオ・カセット・レ
コーダ（ＶＣＲ）に録画して、後から見れるようにする
ことである。この方法では、ビデオ観賞の中断が生じた
場合、番組が終了した後に、ＶＣＲを再生して、中断期
間中に見損なった部分を見ることができる。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】しかし、上述のＶＣＲ
を用いる方法では、ビデオ観賞の連続性がなくなり、そ
の番組の情報や楽しみの価値が減少してしまう。よっ
て、このような中断にも関わらず、情報や楽しみの価値
を失うことなく、これら情報や楽しみの価値を増加する
と共に制御するために、時間的に線形又は非線形の方法
で、番組を完全に観賞できるようにするビデオ番組の時
間歪曲が望まれている。
【０００４】したがって、本発明の目的は、ビデオ番組
を充分な期間だけ蓄積できる容量の再循環ランダム・ア
クセス・バッファに、この番組のビデオ内容を連続的に
蓄積することにより、ビデオ観賞の時間を歪曲する装置
及び方法の提供にある。
【０００５】
【課題を解決するための手段】本発明によれば、番組の
ビデオ内容を圧縮して、所定時間内に蓄積できる番組の
時間を延ばす。ビデオ観賞の中断が生じると、視聴者は
バッファ（蓄積手段）内にマーカをつける。そして、視
聴者が戻ったときに、バッファからのビデオ再生をマー
カ部分にて開始させるので、視聴者は、中断が生じた時
点からのビデオ観賞を遅延状態で開始できる。聴視者
は、任意の所望速度でビデオを再生できるので、ある場
面をスローモーションで観賞できるし、高速再生により
実際のビデオに追いつくこともできる。また、視聴者
は、蓄積したビデオを再検討したり、ビデオの１つ以上
の凍結フレームを観察することもできる。さらに、視聴
者は、スタティク・バッファ内に蓄積するために実際の
ビデオの部分にマークを付け、任意時間の経過後に、そ
の部分から再生をしたり、ＶＣＲに転送できる。バッフ
ァ内のビデオが圧縮されていれば、非圧縮形式で再生す
る。視聴者が再生を行っている期間中も、バッファは新
たな実時間ビデオを依然取り込んでいる。
【０００６】本発明のその他の目的、利点及び新規な特
徴は、添付図を参照した以下の説明より理解できよう。
【０００７】
【実施例】図１は、本発明によるビデオ用時間歪曲装置
のブロック図である。ビデオ時間歪曲装置１０は、ケー
ブルや、空中からアンテナを介して、種々のビデオ信号
源から実時間ビデオを受け、テレビジョン・チューナ１
２に入力して、選択したビデオ・チャンネルのビデオ信
号を得る。このビデオ信号は、アナログ又はデジタル形
式に関わらず、完全帯域幅ビデオでもよいし、圧縮ビデ
オでもよい。ビデオ信号がアナログならば、このアナロ
グ信号をデジタル化してデジタル信号に変換する。ビデ
オ信号が圧縮されていない場合、圧縮回路１４を用い
て、ＪＰＥＧ又はＭＰＥＧ標準の如き、許容できるテレ
ビジョン圧縮標準に応じて、ビデオ信号を圧縮する。圧
縮したビデオは、線形再循環形式で、磁気ディスク又は
光ディスクの如きダイナミック・バッファ（蓄積手段）
１６に書込まれる。このダイナミック・バッファ１６の
容量は、好適には、圧縮したビデオを少なくとも３０分
間記憶できる容量である。このダイナミック・バッファ
１６から圧縮ビデオを読み出し、非圧縮（デコンプレ
ス）回路１８により処理して、完全帯域幅のビデオ信号
を再構成する。この完全帯域幅のビデオ信号を変換し、
テレビジョン・セット又はビデオ・モニタの表示回路２
０により表示する。
【０００８】ダイナミック・バッファ１６をビデオ・カ
セット・レコーダ（ＶＣＲ）２４及び／又はスタティク
・バッファ２２に結合して、ダイナミック・バッファ１
６からの圧縮されたビデオの所望部分を蓄積するか、又
は蓄積された部分をダイナミック・バッファを介して再
生する。遠隔制御器２８により視聴者が発生したコマン
ドに応答して、制御回路２６は、圧縮回路１４が圧縮を
行うかや、その際の圧縮量を決めたり、ダイナミック・
バッファ１６の書込み及び読出しを制御したり、スタテ
ィク・バッファ２２及びＶＣＲ２４の書込み及び再生を
制御したり、チューナ１２のチャンネル選択を制御した
り、非圧縮回路１８を制御して、完全帯域ビデオを表示
に再生したりする。
【０００９】通常の観賞においては、供給されたビデオ
を圧縮して、再循環アドレス・カウンタ（図示せず）が
発生する連続アドレスに応じてダイナミック・バッファ
１６内に蓄積する。供給ビデオが圧縮されていなけれ
ば、表示回路２０に直接転送してもよい。ビデオが圧縮
されている場合、この圧縮されたビデオを非圧縮回路１
８に直接送るか、又はダイナミック・バッファ１６に直
接蓄積して、読出した直後に非圧縮回路１８を介して表
示回路２０に供給する。ダイナミック・バッファ１６へ
の書込みと、表示回路２０への読出しとの間のわずかな
遅延は視聴者には明瞭でないので、視聴者はビデオ番組
を実時間且つ線形モードで観賞することになる。任意の
時点で、遠隔制御器２８により、視聴者は制御回路２６
に命令して、ビデオ番組にマーク点を付けることができ
る。このマーク命令が与えられると、ダイナミック・バ
ッファ１６の現在のアドレスをマーク・レジスタ（図示
せず）に蓄積する。ダイナミック・バッファ１６内でビ
デオ番組を重ね書きする前の任意の時点において、視聴
者は、読出し開始アドレスとしてのマークしたアドレス
を用いて、ビデオ番組内のマークした点に戻ることがで
きる。
【００１０】何らかの理由で視聴者がビデオ観賞を中断
されると、視聴者は遠隔制御器２８により制御回路２６
に休止コマンドを送る。この休止コマンドにより、ダイ
ナミック・レジスタ１６の現在のアドレスが休止レジス
タ（図示せず）に蓄積され、表示回路２０に対するダイ
ナミック・バッファ１６からの読出しを一時停止し、こ
の休止アドレスにおけるビデオ番組のビデオ・フレーム
をスチール・フレームとして表示する。視聴者がビデオ
観賞の中断から戻ると、視聴者は、遠隔制御器２８によ
り、続行コマンドを制御回路２６に与えるので、ダイナ
ミック・バッファ１６は、休止アドレスから、遅延した
実時間モードでビデオ番組を読み出す。ビデオのかかる
持続は、任意の所望速度、即ち、実時間、スローモーシ
ョン又は早送りで、いずれの方向、即ち、順方向又は逆
方向で、観賞できる。スキップ・コマンドを用いること
により、視聴者は、１５又は３０秒の増分の如く所定数
のビデオ・フレーム毎に順方向にスキップできる。ま
た、視聴者は、可変速度制御器を用いて、実時間速度よ
り早くビデオを観賞して、最終的には、供給される実際
のビデオに追いつける。なお、この際、ダイナミック・
バッファ１６は、蓄積したビデオ信号を読み出すと同時
に、新たなに供給されるビデオ信号を蓄積している。
【００１１】視聴者がビデオ番組の一部を記録（セー
ブ）したければ、セーブ・コマンドを用いて、ビデオ番
組の断片、即ち、固定期間又は可変期間をスタティク・
バッファ２２に転送する。このスタティク・バッファ２
２は、視聴者によりダイナミック・バッファ１６の予め
定めた部分でもよい。ダイナミック・バッファ１６の一
部をスタティク・バッファ２２として用いることによ
り、視聴者が任意の時点で利用可能なビデオ番組の録画
時間が減少する。スタティク・バッファ２２にセーブし
たビデオを、コマンドに応じて、任意所望速度、即ち、
実時間、スローモーション又は早送りで、順方向及び逆
方向のいずれの方向でも観賞できる。永久的なセーブが
必要ならば、スタティク・バッファ２２からのビデオを
ＶＣＲ２４に転送できる。勿論、ダイナミック・バッフ
ァ１６からのビデオも、スタティク・バッファ２２で緩
衝蓄積することなく、直接的にＶＣＲ２４に転送でき
る。
【００１２】視聴者は、ビデオ番組を実時間ではなく遅
延した状態で緩衝できる。高速モード又はスキップ・モ
ードにより、実時間に追いつくことができる。視聴者
は、ダイナミック・バッファ１６の最近の事象を個人的
に、順方向又は逆方向で、且つ所望速度で再生できる。
ビデオ番組の断片を後で利用するために、スタティク・
バッファ２２又はＶＣＲ２４にセーブしてもよいし、Ｖ
ＣＲから非線形モードで再生してもよい。視聴者は、チ
ューナ１２により他のチャンネルをスキャンし、一方の
チャンネルをダイナミック・バッファ１６に連続的に書
き込みながら、他方のチャンネルを表示回路２０に直接
供給することもできる。また、視聴者は、番組の情報又
は楽しみの価値のいずれも失うことなく、元の番組に戻
ることができる。ウィンドウ内にウィンドウを作るアプ
リケーションにおいては、視聴者は、実時間で現在の番
組を見ながら、ウィンドウにより、蓄積したビデオから
実時間のビデオに追いつくこともできるし、その逆もで
きる。ランダム・アクセス機能により、視聴者は削除の
みの編集が可能であり、番組の一部をスタティク・バッ
ファ２２に緩衝蓄積する。また、ダイナミック・バッフ
ァ１６内に入力した圧縮ビデオ全体をアクセスして、編
集判断リストを作成できる。さらに、視聴者は、圧縮量
を制御でき、ダイナミック・バッファ１６に１度に蓄積
する量と品質との間の調整をできる。

【発明の効果】上述のごとく、本発明によれば、圧縮し
たビデオ用にランダム・アクセス蓄積素子を設け、この
蓄積素子に実際の供給ビデオを実時間で書き込みなが
ら、蓄積素子の任意の点からビデオを読み出すことによ
り、実際の供給ビデオに対して時間を歪曲することがで
きる。

Claims (4)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】 ビデオ・チャンネルを選択するチューナ
    と、該チューナで選択されたビデオ・チャンネルからの
    ビデオ信号を表示する表示回路とを有するビデオ受像器
    においてビデオの表示速度時間を歪曲させる装置であっ
    て、 上記チューナからのビデオ信号を連続的に蓄積し、所定
    期間の上記ビデオ信号をランダム・アクセスにより利用
    できるバッファ手段と、 該バッファ手段内のビデオ信号をランダムにアクセスし
    て上記表示回路に供給するように制御すると同時に、上
    記ビデオ信号を上記蓄積手段に蓄積するように制御する
    制御手段とを具えたビデオ用時間歪曲装置。
  2. 【請求項２】 上記ビデオ信号を上記バッファ手段に供
    給する前に圧縮する圧縮手段と、 上記バッファ手段から読出された上記圧縮されたビデオ
    信号を上記表示回路に供給する前に非圧縮状態にする非
    圧縮手段とを更に具えることを特徴とする請求項１のビ
    デオ用時間歪曲装置。
  3. 【請求項３】選択されたビデオ・チャンネルのビデオ信
    号のビデオを時間的に歪曲させる方法であって、 上記ビデオ信号をダイナミック・バッファに順次書き込
    むと当時に、 上記ダイナミック・バッファからランダム・アクセスに
    よりビデオ信号を読み出すことを特徴とするビデオ用時
    間歪曲方法。
  4. 【請求項４】 上記ダイナミック・バッファから上記ビ
    デオ信号を読み出すときの速度及び方向を制御するステ
    ップを更に具えることを特徴とする請求項３のビデオ用
    時間歪曲方法。
