Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 この発明は、ポリエチレンのような柔軟な裏付
け材と、補強布と、裏付け材および補強布に接着
された接着剤とを有する形式の、接着テープ特に
ダクトテープとして知られている形式の工業用テ
ープに関し、このテープの引裂き特性を改良する
ことを意図する。
この性質のテープにおいては、その処理および
使用の際に強度を付与するため、綿紡糸、レーヨ
ン糸または合成糸の補強布を備えるのが普通であ
る。かかる布では、織成されるときに、通常、綿
紡の30番単糸の場合に、打込数が、平方インチ当
り（6.45平方cm当り）縦糸で32から40また横糸で
20から36の変化をする。
かかる布は、テープの補強に適当な値より大き
い強度を有し、経済性のために、24×20または20
×12のような低い打込数のガーゼ布を利用するこ
とが、試みられている。このようなテープを使用
する際には、（特に工業的ダクト作業で継目を密
閉する場合などに、テープが繰返し使用される場
合には、）テープは、一般に、手で横糸方向に引
裂かれ、この際に縦糸が引きちぎられる。しかし
ながら、低い打込数のガーゼを含むテープを、上
述のようにして手で横糸方向に引裂くときには、
テープは、大ていは、必らず糸のぶらさがりおよ
び裏付け材の変形のおそれを伴ないながら、でこ
ぼこなまたほつれるような方式で引裂かれる。
強く撚つた紡糸、連続フイラメント合成糸また
は単フイラメント糸のような強い糸を横糸として
使用することによつて、低い打込数の布を有する
テープの引裂き特性を改善することが、試みられ
たが、これは、殆んど成功しなかつた。
この発明の目的は、滑らかで均等な方式で手に
よつて横方向に引裂きできるような、低い打込数
の布を有する、接着テープを提供することにあ
る。
この発明は、24×20または20×12のような低い
打込数の布の横糸に仮撚糸を使用することによつ
て、かかる布を備えた接着テープの引裂き特性
に、ドラマチツクな予期されない効果が与えられ
るという、予期できない発見に基づく。
仮撚糸は、例えば米国特許第2783609号および
第2869967号の明細書に記載されているような、
空気力学的な過程または撚り―固定−撚り戻しの
過程によつて、個個のフイラメントの長さに沿つ
て多くのもつれ、ねじれおよび縮れを導入するこ
とによつて、かさ高にされた、連続フイラメント
糸である。通常ナイロンまたはポリエステルのフ
イラメントからなるかかる糸は、標準の商品であ
り、個個のフイラメントの長さに沿つて導入され
た多くの不規則さによつて、本来的に或る程度ま
で弾性的である。
この発明によれば、柔軟な裏付け材と、補強布
と、裏付け材および補強布に接着された接着剤の
層とを有する、接着テープにおいて、補強布が横
糸方向の仮撚糸を有すること、を特徴とする接着
テープが提供される。
以下、図面を参照しながら、この発明について
さらに説明する。
第６図に示されるように、この発明による接着
テープ２０は、柔軟な裏付け材１０（通常はポリ
オレフインのフイルムの層）と、接着剤の層１２
と、低い打込数の織成ガーゼまたは糸で補強され
た不織布のような補強布とからなる。第５図にお
いて、１４は、従来技術の布における横糸の横断
面を示し、これにおいては、仮撚されていない連
続フイラメント糸が、布の横糸に採用される。第
６図において、１６はこの発明に使用されるよう
な布における横糸の同様な横断面を表わし、これ
においては仮撚糸が横糸に採用される。
第１図および第２図は、紡糸または仮撚されて
いない連続フイラメント糸の横糸を備えた低い打
込数の20×15織成分を含有する、従来技術の三構
成要素接着テープを示す。布と裏付け材との間の
結合の程度に影響する接着剤の特定の性質に依存
して、第１図に２６で示されるような、いわゆる
「階段状」変化の引裂きが生じ、または布の糸30
が基部０Ａから引離される、第２図に２８で示さ
れるような変化の引裂きが生じる。これら両形式
の引裂きは、テープの滑らかでしかも均等かつ迅
速な貼布をさまたげるから、望ましくない。
比較として、第３図は、20×12で織成した布の
横糸に仮撚糸を採用した、この発明による接着テ
ープ２０の、手で引裂いた縁３２を示す。
の結果を達成する仮撚糸１６の効果は、かかる
糸のフイラメント１７（第４図）の不規則にもつ
れ、ねじれかつ縮れるという性質によると、説明
することができる。
このような布の横糸に仮撚されていない連続フ
イラメント糸または紡糸を使用して作られたテー
プと、これに仮撚糸を使用して作られたテープと
の、顕微鏡的研究によつて示されたところによれ
ば、後者のテープでは、個個のフイラメント、接
着剤および柔軟な裏付け材の間の接着の程度の尺
度である横糸の被覆率が、約２倍であつた。例と
して、再び第５図および第６図を参照すれば、20
×12布の横糸に仮撚されていない連続フイラメン
ト糸を使用して作つたテープでは、220デニール
連続フイラメント糸の幅が、第５図に１４で示さ
れるように、平均で0.33mmであることがわかつ
た。横糸方向すなわち横方向に200デニール仮撚
ポリエステル糸を使用したその他の点で同等なテ
ープでは、第６図に１６で示されるように、横糸
の幅が平均で0.65mmであつて、接着剤と糸の接触
の面積が２倍であることがわかつた。
この発明によつて仮撚糸を使用したことによる
別の利点は、かかる糸が仮撚されていない糸より
も平らでかつ広がつているので、第５図の従来技
術における接着剤１３の相対厚さと、第６図のこ
の発明によるテープにおける接着剤１２のそれと
の比較によつて示されるように、裏付け材、布お
よび接着剤を一体のテープに結合させるに必要な
接着剤の量が少ないということにある。接着剤の
作用は、これを貼布すべき品物に滑らかで均等な
面を与えることにあるから、補強布をおおいかつ
これを裏付け材に固着させるに充分な接着剤が使
用される。この点から見て、仮撚糸１６の広がり
特性は、使用すべき接着剤のフイルムを薄くする
ことを可能にし、その結果として、薄くて柔軟な
テープが得られ、接着剤の量の低減によつて生じ
る経済性が与えられる。
例 縦糸に、30番の木綿の糸を、１インチ（約2.54
cm）当り20本使用し、横糸に、200デニール96フ
イラメントの仮撚ポリエステル糸を、１インチ
（約2.54cm）当り12本使用して、ガーゼ布が構成
された。このガーゼが、カレンダ作業によつて、
４ミル（約100ミクロン）の厚さを有する低密度
ポリエチレンのフイルムに重ねられ、かつ６ミル
（約150ミクロン）の厚さの接着剤の層と組合わさ
れた。接着剤は、重量比で40％のゴム、30％の充
填剤、28％の粘着剤樹脂および２％の加工助剤か
らなるものであつた。カレンダ作業は、400〓
（204.4℃）に加熱された頂部ロール、200〓
（93.33℃）に加熱された中央ロール、および210
〓（98.89℃）に加熱された底部ロールを持つ、
３個のロールのカレンダによつて達成された。加
工速度は、毎分当り35ヤード（約32メートル）で
あつた。
手で引裂いたときに得られたこの布の引裂き
は、第３図に示される引裂きに匹敵するのであ
り、均等な引裂きは、従来では、44×28打込数の
30番の綿糸の布、50％ポリエステル50％木綿の紡
糸による32×28打込数の布、または同様の高い打
込数の布、を使用することだけによつて達成され
た。
この発明によるテープに使用できる接着剤に
は、特に加熱隔解する接着剤、アクリル系接着剤
および天然または合成のゴムが包含される。接着
剤は、通常は感圧性のものであるけれども、熱活
性または溶剤活性の接着剤も使用できる。
各種の柔軟な裏付け材が使用できるが、望まし
いのは、４から６ミル（約100から約150ミクロ
ン）のポリエチレンフイルムである。フイルム
は、予め形成できまたはフイルム押出しでき、布
の成層と接着剤の貼布とは、単一の作業で達成で
きる。
織成された布が補強物である場合には、布は、
そのインチ（約2.54cm）当り20本以上の糸を含有
しないことが望ましい。不織布または同様に柔軟
であるのが延伸できない繊維材料の布も、これが
横方向すなわち横糸方向に延長する仮撚糸を含有
する場合には、採用できる。この場合に仮撚糸の

第７図は、綿紡糸からなる規則正しい縦糸１７
Ａと仮撚の横糸１６とからなる適当な織成された
布の拡大図である。
第８図は、適当な長さの繊維の不織配列からな
る適当な不織布の拡大図であり、これには、不織
布の横方向に配置されかつ織成分の横糸に対応す
る仮撚糸１６の組が接着される。かかる糸で補強
された繊維基体において、繊維の配列は、不規則
なまたは等方性の性質を有するべきであり、よつ
て繊維の配向がテープの手によるきれいな引裂き
を妨害することはない。
【図面の簡単な説明】
第１図および第２図は、布の中の横糸が紡糸ま
たは仮撚されていない連続フイラメント糸である
ような、24×20または20×12の低い打込数の布を
使用した接着テープの、特徴的な不規則の引裂き
端を示す図である。第３図は、布の横糸に仮撚糸
を使用した20×12の織成ガーゼを有する接着テー
プの、引裂き端を示す図である。第４図は、この
発明の接着テープに採用される布に使用されるよ
うな仮撚糸を、高度に拡大して示す断面図であ
る。第５図は、紡糸または仮撚されていない連続
フイラメント糸の横糸として使用した三構成要素
の接着テープの一部分を、高度に拡大して示す断
面図である。第６図は、仮撚糸を布の横糸として
採用した接着テープの、同様な図である。第７図
は、この発明に使用するに適した織成布の一部分
を、高度に拡大して示す図ある。第８図は、この
発明に使用するに適した不織布の同様な図であ
る。 図面において、１０は裏付け材、１２は接着
剤、１６は仮撚糸からなる横糸、２０は接着テー
プを示す。

Claims (1)

  1. 【特許請求の範囲】 １ 柔軟な裏付け材と、補強布と、裏付け材およ
    び補強布に接着された接着剤の層とを有する、接
    着テープにおいて、補強布か横糸方向の仮撚糸を
    有すること、を特徴とする接着テープ。 ２ 接着剤が感圧性である、特許請求の範囲第１
    項に記載の接着テープ。 ３ 補強布が織成された織物である、特許請求の
    範囲第１項に記載の接着テープ。 ４ 織成された織物が、その約2.54cm当り20本以
    上の仮撚糸を含有しない、特許請求の範囲第３項
    に記載の接着テープ。 ５ 補強布が、接合され等方的に分布された繊維
    配列と、補強布の約2.54cm当り20本以下の仮撚糸
    とを有し、仮撚糸が、前記配列に接着され、かつ
    横方向すなわち横糸方向に延長する、特許請求の
    範囲第１項に記載の接着テープ。 ６ 柔軟な裏付け材が、ポリオレフインのフイル
    ムである、特許請求の範囲第１項に記載の接着テ
    ープ。 ７ 接着剤が、熱活性の性質を持つ、特許請求の
    範囲第１項に記載の接着テープ。 ８ 接着剤が、溶剤活性の性質を持つ、特許請求
    の範囲第１項に記載の接着テープ。
