Description
本発明の光学機能層は、色素を含む樹脂層であれば特に限定されない。前記樹脂層としては、フィルム層、粘着剤層等が挙げられる。前記光学機能層は、ベースポリマーおよび色素を含有する組成物から形成することができる。
本発明の光学機能層が含有する色素は、各種色素を使用することができる。色素として、例えば、テトラアザポルフィリン系、ポルフィリン系、シアニン系、アゾ系、ピロメテン系、スクアリリウム系、キサンテン系、オキソノール系、スクアライン系等の各種化合物が挙げられる。前記色素は、広色域化の観点から、テトラアザポルフィリン系色素、ポルフィリン系色素、シアニン系色素、スクアリウム系色素、スクアライン系色素が好ましく、特にテトラアザポルフィリン系色素ら好ましい。前記色素は、具体的には、特開2011-116818号公報等に開示されている。前記色素は、1種のみを用いてもよく、2種以上を併用することもできる。
本発明の光学機能層としては、色素を含有する粘着剤層が挙げられ、前記粘着剤層は、粘着性のベースポリマーおよび色素を含有する粘着剤組成物から形成することができる。粘着性のベースポリマーの種類について、特に制限はないが、例えば、ゴム系ポリマー、(メタ)アクリル系ポリマー、シリコーン系ポリマー、ウレタン系ポリマー、ビニルアルキルエーテル系ポリマー、ポリビニルアルコール系ポリマー、ポリビニルピロリドン系ポリマー、ポリアクリルアミド系ポリマー、セルロース系ポリマーなどの各種ポリマーが挙げられる。
前記(メタ)アクリル系ポリマーは、通常、モノマー単位として、アルキル(メタ)アクリレートを主成分として含有する。なお、(メタ)アクリレートはアクリレートおよび/またはメタクリレートをいい、本発明の(メタ)とは同様の意味である。
さらに、本発明においては、色素を有する粘着剤層を形成する粘着剤組成物中に架橋剤を含有することできる。架橋剤としては、有機系架橋剤や多官能性金属キレートを用いることができる。有機系架橋剤としては、イソシアネート系架橋剤、過酸化物系架橋剤、エポキシ系架橋剤、イミン系架橋剤等が挙げられる。多官能性金属キレートは、多価金属が有機化合物と共有結合または配位結合しているものである。多価金属原子としては、Al、Cr、Zr、Co、Cu、Fe、Ni、V、Zn、In、Ca、Mg、Mn、Y、Ce、Sr、Ba、Mo、La、Sn、Ti等が挙げられる。共有結合または配位結合する有機化合物中の原子としては酸素原子等が挙げられ、有機化合物としてはアルキルエステル、アルコール化合物、カルボン酸化合物、エーテル化合物、ケトン化合物等が挙げられる。
また、本発明の光学機能層としては、色素を含有するフィルム層が挙げられ、前記フィルム層は、フィルム形成用のベースポリマーおよび色素を含有する組成物から形成することができる。フィルム層を形成するベースポリマーの材料としては、後述の透明保護フィルムを構成する材料と同様のものを例示することができる。特に、前記材料としては、トリアセチルセルロースなどのセルロース樹脂、ポリエステル樹脂、(メタ)アクリル樹脂、環状ポリオレフィン樹脂(ノルボルネン系樹脂)等が好ましく用いられる。フィルム層は、適宜に接着剤、粘着剤等を用いてポリビニルアルコール系偏光子に適用することができる。
本発明の偏光フィルムは、前記ポリビニルアルコール系偏光子を有する。前記ポリビニルアルコール系偏光子は、酸素透過度が低く、酸素透過度が1[cm3/(m2・24h・atm)]以下を満足することができる。
前記本発明の光学機能層付偏光フィルムは、液晶パネルを形成する際に好適に用いることができる。例えば、本発明の光学機能層付偏光フィルムの光学機能層が粘着剤層である、粘着剤層付偏光フィルムの場合には、当該粘着剤層付偏光フィルムは、液晶セルのいずれか少なくとも一方の面に、当該粘着剤層付偏光フィルムの粘着剤層を介して貼り合わされて液晶パネルを形成する。本発明の粘着剤層付偏光フィルムは、液晶セルの視認側に好適に用いられる。
液晶表示装置には、上記液晶パネルが用いられ、必要に応じて照明システム等の構成部品を適宜に組み立てて駆動回路を組み込むことなどにより形成される。さらに、液晶表示装置の形成に際しては、例えば拡散板、アンチグレア層、反射防止膜、保護板、プリズムアレイ、レンズアレイシート、光拡散板、バックライトなどの適宜な部品を適宜な位置に1層又は2層以上配置することができる。また、照明システムにバックライトあるいは反射板を用いたものなどの適宜な液晶表示装置を形成することができる。
(メタ)アクリル系ポリマーの重量平均分子量(Mw)は、GPC(ゲル・パーミエーション・クロマトグラフィー)により測定した。Mw/Mnについても、同様に測定した。

・カラムサイズ:各7.8mmφ×30cm 計90cm
・カラム温度:40℃
・流量:0.8mL/min
・注入量:100μL
・溶離液:テトラヒドロフラン
・検出器:示差屈折計(RI)
・標準試料:ポリスチレン
モコン社製、酸素透過率測定装置OX-TRANを用い、23℃、0%RHの条件下にて、JISK 7126-2に従って求めた。
<偏光フィルムの作製>
薄型偏光層を作製するため、まず、非晶性PET基材に9μm厚のPVA層が製膜された積層体を延伸温度130℃の空中補助延伸によって延伸積層体を生成し、次に、延伸積層体を染色によって着色積層体を生成し、さらに着色積層体を延伸温度65度のホウ酸水中延伸によって総延伸倍率が5.94倍になるように非晶性PET基材と一体に延伸された4μm厚のPVA層を含む光学フィルム積層体を生成した。このような2段延伸によって非晶性PET基材に製膜されたPVA層のPVA分子が高次に配向され、染色によって吸着されたヨウ素がポリヨウ素イオン錯体として一方向に高次に配向された高機能偏光層を構成する、厚さ4μmのPVA層を含む光学フィルム積層体を生成することができた。更に、当該光学フィルム積層体の偏光層の表面にポリビニルアルコール系接着剤を塗布しながら(形成された接着剤層の厚さ1μm)、けん化処理した40μm厚の第1のアクリル樹脂フィルム(酸素透過度5[cm3/(m2・24h・atm)])を貼合せたのち、非晶性PET基材を剥離して、薄型偏光子(酸素透過度0.02未満[cm3/(m2・24h・atm)])を用いた片保護偏光フィルムを作製した。これを薄型片保護偏光フィルムという。
冷却管、窒素導入管、温度計および撹拌装置を備えた反応容器にアクリル酸ブチル100部、アクリル酸2-ヒドロキシエチル0.01部、およびアクリル酸5部を含有するモノマー混合物を仕込んだ。さらに、前記モノマー混合物100部に対して、重合開始剤として2,2´-アゾビスイソブチロニトリル0.1部を酢酸エチル100部と共に仕込み、緩やかに攪拌しながら窒素ガスを導入して窒素置換した後、フラスコ内の液温を55℃付近に保って8時間重合反応を行って、重量平均分子量(Mw)180万、Mw/Mn=4.1のアクリル系ポリマーの溶液(固形分濃度30重量%)を調製した。
上記で製造したアクリル系ポリマー溶液の固形分100部に対して、
ベンゾイルパーオキサイド(日本油脂社製の商品名ナイパーBMT)を0.3部、
イソシアネート系架橋剤(東ソー社製の商品名コロネートL)を1部、
テトラアザポルフィリン系色素(山本化成社製の商品名PD-320:波長595nmに極大吸収波長を有する)を0.25部、および
を配合して、粘着剤組成物を得た。
前記粘着剤組成物を、上記薄型片保護偏光フィルムの偏光子(PVA層)の面に、直接、アプリケータで均一に塗工し、155℃の空気循環式恒温オーブンで2分間乾燥して、前記偏光子の表面に厚さ20μmの色素を有する粘着剤層を形成して、粘着剤層付片保護偏光フィルムを作製した。
実施例1において、厚さ20μmの色素を有しない粘着剤層を前記偏光子の表面に積層した後に、厚さ20μmの色素を有する粘着剤層を形成したこと以外は実施例1と同様にして粘着剤層付片保護偏光フィルムを作製した。
なお、厚さ20μmの色素を有しない粘着剤層の形成には、上記色素を有する粘着剤層の形成に用いた粘着剤組成物において、色素を配合しなかったこと以外は同様の粘着剤組成物を用いた。粘着剤層の形成は、前記粘着剤組成物をシリコーン系剥離剤で処理されたポリエチレンテレフタレートフィルムの剥離基材(三菱樹脂社製MRF38CK)の表面に、アプリケータで均一に塗工し、155℃の空気循環式恒温オーブンで2分間乾燥することにより行い、当該粘着剤層を前記偏光子に転写して積層した。
実施例1において、実施例2で用いた厚さ20μmの色素を有しない粘着剤層を前記偏光子の表面に2層積層(合計厚さ40μm)した後に、厚さ20μmの色素を有する粘着剤層を形成したこと以外は実施例1と同様にして粘着剤層付片保護偏光フィルムを作製した。なお、色素を有しない粘着剤層の形成は実施例2の記載と同様である。
<偏光フィルムの作製>
実施例1において得られた薄型片保護偏光フィルムの偏光子(PVA層)の面に、けん化処理した40μm厚の第2のアクリル樹脂フィルム(酸素透過度5[cm3/(m2・24h・atm)])を接着剤(接着剤層の厚さ1μm)を介して貼り合せて、両保護偏光フィルムを作製した。これを薄型両保護偏光フィルムという。
上記両保護偏光フィルムの第2のアクリル樹脂フィルムの裏面(接着剤層とは反対面)に、実施例1で用いた粘着剤組成物を、直接、アプリケータで均一に塗工し、155℃の空気循環式恒温オーブンで2分間乾燥して、前記第2のアクリル樹脂フィルムの裏面に厚さ20μmの色素を有する粘着剤層を形成して、粘着剤層付片保護偏光フィルムを作製した。
実施例1において、実施例2で用いた厚さ20μmの色素を有しない粘着剤層を前記偏光子の表面に3層積層(合計厚さ60μm)した後に、厚さ20μmの色素を有する粘着剤層を形成したこと以外は実施例1と同様にして粘着剤層付片保護偏光フィルムを作製した。なお、色素を有しない粘着剤層の形成は実施例2の記載と同様である。
実施例1において、前記粘着剤組成物を、上記薄型片保護偏光フィルムの偏光子(PVA層)の面に形成する代わりに、けん化処理した40μm厚のアクリル樹脂フィルム(酸素透過度5[cm3/(m2・24h・atm)])に形成したこと以外は実施例1と同様にして粘着剤層付アクリル樹脂フィルムを作製した。
サンプルを縦50mm×横25mmの試験片に裁断した後、正面および端部の状態(初期)を、スキャナ(具体的には、Canon社製の商品名ピクサス MX923)を用いて写真として取り込んだ。次いで、サンプルを85℃の恒温槽に24時間放置する耐久性試験を施した後に、取り出して、室温(23℃)に戻してから、再度、サンプルの正面および端部の状態(24時間後)を、再度、同様のスキャナを用いて写真として取り込だ。前記試験投入前(初期)と後(24)時間後の写真を二値化し、正面の色抜け有無、及び端部の色抜け量を下記の方法で測定した。
試験片を耐久性試験に投入する前の二値化写真、及び投入後の二値化写真の画像を元に、色が抜けているかどうかを目視にて評価した。試験片を耐久性試験に投入する前後の透過率についても併せて表1に記載した。透過率の測定は積分球付き分光透過率測定器(村上色彩技術研究所のDot-3c)を用いて、試験片が23℃の状態で行った。
〇 投入前に比べて色の差がない。
× 投入前に比べて明らかに色が薄くなっている。
試験片の周辺端部から中央に向けて、周辺端部の明確に色が抜けている部分の最も長い箇所の距離を定規にて測定し、これを色抜け(退色進行距離:mm)として評価した。

Claims (5)
- ポリビニルアルコール系偏光子を有する偏光フィルムの少なくとも片側に、色素及びベースポリマーを含有する粘着剤層を有する光学機能層付偏光フィルムであって、前記ポリビニルアルコール系偏光子と前記色素を含有する粘着剤層との距離が25μm以下であり、
前記粘着剤層のベースポリマーが、(メタ)アクリル系ポリマーであり、
前記偏光子と前記粘着剤層との間に接着剤層及び透明保護フィルムを有し、
前記透明保護フィルムの厚さが、10μm以上であり、
前記透明保護フィルムと前記接着剤層の厚みの合計が25μm以下であり、
前記接着剤層は、前記偏光子と前記透明保護フィルムとを接着し、前記接着剤層の厚みは、0.01~3μmであることを特徴とする光学機能層付偏光フィルム。 - 前記ポリビニルアルコール系偏光子は、酸素透過度が1[cm 3 /(m 2 ・24h・atm)]以下であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の光学機能層付偏光フィルム。
- 前記色素を含有する粘着剤層は、厚み25μm以下であることを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の光学機能層付偏光フィルム。
- 前記(メタ)アクリル系ポリマーの重量平均分子量が、50万~300万であることを特徴とする請求項1~3のいずれかに記載の光学機能層付偏光フィルム。
- 請求項1~4のいずれかに記載の光学機能層付偏光フィルムを有する画像表示装置。
