Description
このようなパッケージのうち、例えば、略四角柱のパッケージを製造する場合、先ず、長尺の包装資材は、長手方向に沿う両端が重ね合わされ、貼り合わせられて筒状にされる。次に、筒状の包装資材は、筒の下端が封止されて内容物が充填された後、上端が封止される。両端が封止された包装資材は、押圧されて立体的な四角柱に成形される。なお、本明細書では、包装資材の封止を以降「シール」と記す。
両端が封止された包装資材を加圧する超音波シール装置は、例えば、特許文献1に記載されている。特許文献1に記載の超音波シール装置は、超音波発生装置を収容するケーシングに折り曲げプレートを設け、折り曲げプレートによって筒状になった包装資材を折り曲げてパッケージを成形している。
特許文献1には、折り曲げプレートのみをケーシングから取り外して超音波装置のヘッドをクリーニングすることが記載されている。
また、近年では、超音波シールは増々高速化される傾向にあり、現在では1分間に100個から400個ものパッケージが製造されている。超音波シールの処理が高速化されると、ホーンにおいて熱が発生する。ホーンで発生した熱を冷却する方法として、ホーンに水をかけることが考えられる。しかし、ホーンの側周をケーシングによって覆う従来の超音波シール装置では、ホーンに直接水をかけることができず、ホーンの発熱を抑えるための充分な冷却効果を得ることができない。ここに、冷却は、超音波シールの処理を高速で行うほど重要になってくる。
本実施形態は、略四角柱の外観を有し、内部に液体が充填されたパッケージを製造する例を挙げて本実施形態の超音波シール装置を説明する。なお、本実施形態が例示するパッケージは、例えばジュースや酒類等の液体や固形分を有する内容物を長期保存するものである。
図1は、本実施形態の超音波シール装置1を説明するための模式図である。超音波シール装置1は、筒状になった包装資材である筒状資材21に当接して振動を加えるホーン7と、ホーン7と対向して配置されるアンビル6と、ホーン7の側周を覆うホーンカバー9とを備えている。ホーンカバー9は、ホーンカバー9で囲まれた空間(ホーン7が包含される空間)とホーンカバー9の外部の空間とを連通する切欠部としてのスリット91が形成された枠体を有する。
ホーンカバー9及びホーン7は、超音波発生ユニット5に固定されていて、ホーン7に対して着脱可能に構成されている。シールジョーの役割をするホーン7及びホーンカバー9は、超音波発生ユニット5と共にジョー支持部3によって支持されている。また、シールジョーの役割をするアンビル6は、ジョー支持部4によって支持されている。ホーン7及びホーンカバー9とアンビル6とは、ジョー支持部3、4によって互いに離接する方向に移動可能である。
なお、本実施形態でいう「枠体」とは、一定の平面領域を囲むように形成された一続きの部材(無端環状の部材)を指すものとする。
ホーン7は、アンビル6と共に筒状資材21を挟み込み、筒状資材21を加圧すると共に振動を加えて筒状資材21をシールする。本実施形態では、筒状資材21のシールされた部分を、以降「シール部分S」と記す。筒状資材21は、ホーン7とアンビル6との間でシールされながら、図1中、上から下の一方向に搬送される。
図2は、図1に示したホーン7及びホーンカバー9を説明するための模式的な図である。超音波発生ユニット5は、ケース51内に図示しない超音波発振器及びコンバータを内蔵している。ケース51には蓋52が取り付けられていて、蓋52によって超音波発振器及びコンバータが設けられた空間を閉じている。ホーン7及びホーンカバー9は、それぞれ別個に蓋52に取り付けられて固定されている。このため、ホーンカバー9は、ホーン7を蓋52から取り外すことなく独立して蓋52から取り外すことができる。このような構成を、本実施形態では、「ホーン7に対して着脱可能である」と記す。
なお、小枠体93−1〜93−4は、例えば、鉄材、ステンレス鋼、アルミニウム合金、チタン合金などの材料から構成すれば良い。
凹段差部931及び凸段差部932は、互いに隣り合う枠体の凸段差部932及び凹段差部931同士が係合することで、互いの位置ずれを防止している。また、最もアンビル6に近い小枠体93−1は、小枠体93−2に向かう面に凸段差部932を有し、凸段差部932が小枠体93−2の凹段差部931と係合するようになっている。また、基台90は、凹段差部931を有していて、凹段差部931が小枠体93−4の凸段差部932と係合するようになっている。
また、ホーンカバー9によれば、押圧面Aに複数のスリット91が形成されていることにより、ホーンカバー9に対し外側から水をかけると、複数のスリット91から、冷却に十分な量の水がホーンカバー9内に入り込む。ホーンカバー9内に入り込んだ水は、ホーン7と直接接触することによってホーン7を効率良く冷却する。
また、ホーンカバー9は、単純な且つ基本構想が同一形状からなる、複数の小枠体93−1〜93−4を積層することによって形成できるので、ホーンカバー9は、比較的加工及び製造が簡易である。また、小枠体93−1〜93−4に切欠191を設けてスリット91を形成することにより、本実施形態では、一体形成のホーンカバー9の壁面をくり抜いてスリットを形成する場合に比べて、簡易にスリット91を有するホーンカバー9を形成することができる。
ここで、ホーン7とアンビル6とによってシールされる筒状資材21について説明する。図4は、筒状資材21の材料となる包装資材49を説明するための図である。包装資材49は、樹脂や紙の多層構造を有している。包装資材49において、内容物が充填されたパッケージ内部に向く面を「内面」、パッケージ表面に向いた面を「表面」と記す。包装資材49は、内面の側から順に、第1ポリエチレン(PolyEthylene:以下、PEとも記す)樹脂491、バリア材492、第2PE樹脂493、紙494及び第3PE樹脂495の各層が積層されることによって形成されている。
第1PE樹脂491は、熱可塑性樹脂であって、包装資材49の内面同士を溶着する際の接着剤の役割をする。また、バリア材492としては、ナイロン(Ny)類、ポリビニルアルコール(PVA)、エチレン/ビニルアルコール共重合樹脂(EVOH)、ポリ塩化ビニリデン(PVDC)、及びその混合物等が挙げられる。また、バリア材492としては、蒸着膜層を形成しバリア性を持たせたポリエチレンテレフタラート(PET)やアルミニウム等が挙げられる。
図5(b)は、図5(a)中に示した筒状資材21の短手方向に沿う線分I−Iで筒状資材21を切った断面図である。図5(b)に示すように、本実施形態では、端部496a、端部496bが重なった領域を重なり部分Rと記す。図5(c)に示すように、重なり部分Rの端部496aの端部には、エッジプロテクションテープ31が貼り付けられている。エッジプロテクションテープ31は、端部496aを包装資材49の内面に貼りつけて包装資材49を筒状資材21に成形している。
次に、本実施形態の超音波シール装置の動作を説明する。
図1に戻り、超音波シール装置1には長尺形状の筒状資材21がセットされ、筒状資材21は、図示しない搬送機構によって図1中の上から下に向かって搬送される。なお、筒状資材21の搬送方向を上から下に向かう方向に設定することにより、筒状資材21は重力によって弛むことなくホーン7とアンビル6との間を移動する。
ホーン7及びアンビル6は、下方向に搬送される筒状資材21に対して左右から接近し、筒状資材21のシール部分Sを挟んで加圧すると共に超音波に基づく周波数の振動を加える。振動によって第1PE樹脂491が溶融し、加圧によって筒状資材21の内面がシールされる。
さらに、本実施形態では、ホーン7及びアンビル6の上下には図示しないホールディングフラップと呼ばれる枠体が設けられている。下部がシールされて切断された筒状資材21は、シールを行ったユニットのホーンカバー9の押圧面Aによってシール部分近傍の四角柱に成形されたときに天面になる部分を押圧し、四角柱に成形されたときに側面となる部分を上側のホールディングフラップに押し付ける。そして、上部がシールされて切断されるとき、シールを行ったホーンカバー9の押圧面A’によってシール部分近傍の四角柱に成形されたときに底面になる部分を押圧し、四角柱に成形されたときに側面となる部分を下側のホールディングフラップに押し付ける。このような動作により、パッケージは、切断されたシール部分が折り畳まれて略四角柱の形状に成形される。
以上説明した本実施形態は、ホーン7をホーンカバー9の上から冷却することができる。また、本実施形態は、ホーンカバー9を一度に取り外すことができ、ホーン7のメンテナンスを容易にすることができる。また、本実施形態は、ホーンカバー9をパージしてホーン7に付着した塵等を除去することができる。
なお、以上説明した本実施形態は、上記構成に限定されるものではない。すなわち、本実施形態は、ホーンカバー9に切欠としてスリット91を形成しているが、切欠はスリット91に限定されるものでなく、ホーンカバー9にホーン7が収容される空間と外部とを連通させるものであればよい。また、本実施形態は、図3に示したように、スリット91を小枠体93−1から93−4が積層される積層方向dに直交する向きに形成しているが、スリットの向きは任意の向きであってよい。
また、本実施の形態は、本発明の技術的思想を具体化するための構成を例示するものであって、本発明の技術的思想は、構成部品の材質、形状、構造、配置等を特定するものでない。本発明の技術的思想は、特許請求の範囲に記載された請求項が規定する技術的範囲内において、種々の変更を加えることができる。
本発明は、ここでは記載していない様々な実施の形態等を含むことは勿論である。したがって、本発明の技術的範囲は上記の説明から妥当な特許請求の範囲に記載された発明特定事項によってのみ定められるものである。

Claims (4)
- 包装資材に当接して振動を加えるホーンと、
前記ホーンの側周を覆うと共に前記ホーンを包含する空間と外部とを連通する切欠部が形成された枠体を有し、前記ホーンに対して着脱可能なホーンカバーと、
を備え、
前記ホーンに対向して配置されるアンビルをさらに備え、
前記枠体は複数の小枠体によって構成され、複数の前記小枠体は、前記アンビルに向かう方向に積層されると共に互いに連結される、
ことを特徴とする超音波シール装置。 - 前記切欠部は、前記小枠体の積層方向と交差する方向に延びるスリットであることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の超音波シール装置。
- 前記アンビルに形成された間隙内に収容され、前記ホーンに向かって移動可能な断裁刃と、
前記ホーンの前記間隙と対向する位置に形成され、前記ホーンに向かって移動した前記断裁刃が入り込む溝部と、を有し、
前記断裁刃は、前記溝部に入り込むことによって前記包装資材の封止された部分を切断することを特徴とする請求項1または請求項2に記載の超音波シール装置。 - 前記ホーンカバーは、封止後に切断された前記包装資材の部分を押圧することを特徴とする請求項3に記載の超音波シール装置。
