Description
本発明は、寸法回復可能なチューブを対象とする。特に、本発明は、強化(または補強された)ポリマーチューブを形成する、複数(または多重)壁、例えば二重壁の寸法回復(または復原)可能なチューブを対象とする。
既知の方法によって、様々な用途のための単一層の寸法回復可能なチューブを形成することができる。例えば、Cookらによる特許文献1(米国特許第3,086,242号)およびWrayによる特許文献2(米国特許第3,370,112号)は、チューブの内側と外側との間の圧力差を用いることによりチューブを膨張させる方法および装置を開示しており、それらの文献は引用により全体が本明細書に組み込まれる。CookらおよびWrayは、ポリマー材料のチューブを架橋および膨張させることにより寸法回復可能なチューブを製造する方法を、説明している。双方の場合とも、チューブの内側と外側との間の圧力差を用いることにより、チューブを膨張させる。熱で回復可能なチューブを形成するために、チューブを押出成形または別の方法で適切に形成し、架橋させる。チューブを架橋させた後、次にチューブをその結晶融解温度と等しいもしくはそれより高い温度または温度範囲まで加熱し、材料における結晶構造を融解させる。チューブを高温にしながら、チューブ壁を横切るように圧力差を与え、チューブを膨張させる。チューブをこの圧力差にさらした後、次にチューブを冷却領域に通し、結晶融解温度より低い温度または温度範囲までチューブを冷却し、寸法回復可能なチューブを形成する。チューブの外側の大気圧または準大気圧を適用しながら、チューブの内側に空気を連続的に供給することにより、圧力差を与えることができる。再加熱すると、チューブは架橋されたときにそれが有していた構造に戻る。
本発明の1つの要旨は、複数層の寸法回復可能なチューブシステム(multi-layered dimensionally recoverable tubing system)を含む。当該システムは、第1層、第2層および補強構造体(reinforcing structure)を有する。第1層は、少なくとも1つの架橋可能なポリマーを含む。第2層は、第1層の隣に位置し、ポリマーを含む。補強構造体を第2層の隣に配置する。第1層および第2層の一方または双方は、寸法回復可能である。第1層は、実質的に架橋しており、第2層は、実質的に架橋していない。補強された医療機器を形成するために、システムを加熱して寸法を元に戻すと(又は寸法が回復すると)、ここで、補強構造体は、第2層に組み込まれるようになる。
本発明は、寸法回復可能な材料の少なくとも1つの層を有するアセンブリを、好ましくはチューブまたはシースの形態で利用し、加熱した時、実質的に架橋していない材料に力を加えて、その非架橋材料を補強構造体の上に、周囲におよび/または中に押しやり、医療機器として有用な補強構造体を形成する。本明細書で用いる時、「架橋(または架橋している)」材料およびその文法的な変化形を、部分的にまたは完全に架橋している材料または化学的な(例えば、ポリマーの)架橋の程度が高い材料として規定する。本明細書で用いる時、「非架橋(または架橋していない)」材料およびその文法的な変化形を、全く架橋していない材料または化学的な架橋の程度が低い材料として規定し、架橋量は流動できるほど十分に少ない。例えば、非架橋材料は、補強構造体を非架橋材料に浸入させることができるほど十分な流動性を有することが好ましい。更に「架橋不可能な」材料およびその文法的な変化形を、架橋可能な材料にて架橋させるのに十分な条件にさらされた場合に、架橋に対して部分的または全体的に抵抗を有する材料として規定する。
外側層組成物を、76.2mm(3’’)の直径の180°まで加熱した2本ロールミルにより製造した。外側層の(架橋可能な)組成物を、PEBAX(登録商標)ポリエーテルブロックアミドポリマー樹脂(Arkema Corporationから購入可能)を2.5%または5.0%の架橋促進剤(トリアリルイソシアヌレート)と混合することにより製造した。これらの混合物を電気プレスにて180℃(365°F)で押圧し、152mm×152mm×0.635mm(6インチ×6インチ×0.025インチ)のプラークにした。これらのプラーク試料に、1.0MeVの電子ビームを用いて10ミリラド〜20ミリラド照射し、200℃でE30に対する試験を実施することにより、架橋密度を調べた。E30の試験は、ホットボックスを備えたInstron(登録商標)の試験機を用い、200℃で30%の伸張における力を測定した。6.35mm×102mm×0.635mm(0.25インチ×4インチ×0.025インチ)の寸法を有する試料を、48.3mm(1.9インチ)のつかみ具を有するInstron試験機に配置し、50mm/分の速度で引っ張った。この試験を200℃、即ち、最も高い温度で溶融するPEBAX(登録商標)樹脂の融点よりも少なくとも25℃高い温度にて実施した。(PEBAX(登録商標)7233は、174℃という最も高い融点を有していた。)良好に膨張するチューブは、一般的に0.34MPa(50psi)より大きいE30値を有し、好ましくは0.62MPa(90psi)より大きいE30を有する。E30のデータを表1にまとめる。ASTM D−3418に基づき測定した各PEBAX(登録商標)樹脂の融点、およびASTM D2240により測定した15秒後のショアD値であるショア硬さ(デュロメーター)を表1に示す。
Claims (7)
- 第1架橋ポリマー層;および
当該第1層とともに同時押出成形されて当該第1層の隣に配置され、架橋阻害剤を含む第2非架橋ポリマー層;
を含む、カテーテルまたはカテーテル部材として使用される複数層のチューブシステムであって、
当該複数層のチューブシステムは、第2層の隣に配置されるように適用される補強構造体と組み合わせて使用されるものであり、
当該第1層および当該第2層の一方または双方の層は、熱収縮可能であり、当該一方または双方の層が熱収縮すると、補強構造体が第2層に組み込まれるように構成されるシステム。 - 前記第1層は、(a)前記チューブシステムの外側層および(b)前記チューブシステムの内側層の一方である、請求項1に記載のシステム。
- 前記第1層は、ポリオレフィン、飽和ポリエステル、ポリアミド、ポリビニルハロゲン化物、エラストマーおよびそれらの組み合わせから成る群から選択されるポリマーを含み、好ましくは、前記第1層は、ポリエーテルブロックアミド共重合体、ポリエステル、ポリウレタンエラストマーおよびそれらの組み合わせから成る群から選択されるポリマーを含む、請求項1に記載のシステム。
- 前記第2層は、ポリオレフィン、飽和ポリエステル、ポリアミド、ポリビニルハロゲン化物、エラストマーおよびそれらの組み合わせから成る群から選択されるポリマーを含み、好ましくは、前記第2層は、ポリエーテルブロックアミド共重合体、ポリエステル、ポリウレタンエラストマーおよびそれらの組み合わせから成る群から選択されるポリマーを含む、請求項1に記載のシステム。
- 前記第1層は、トリアリルシアヌレート、トリアリルイソシアヌレート、N,N’−m−フェニレン−ジマレイミドおよびそれらの組み合わせから成る群から選択した架橋剤を含む、請求項1に記載のシステム。
- 前記第2層における架橋阻害剤は、フェノール系酸化防止剤、チオエステルおよびそれらの組み合わせから成る群から選択した酸化防止剤を含む、請求項1に記載のシステム。
- 前記第2層は、接着剤を含む、請求項1に記載のシステム。
