Description
本願は、2012年5月23日に出願された米国仮特許出願第61/650563号明細書に対する優先権およびその全ての利点を主張し、前記明細書の開示は引用により特に組み込まれる。

本発明は、熱可塑性材料から成る物品に関する。特に、本発明は、物品の2つのボディ部分を接合するために使用される摩擦溶接継手に関する。

本発明は、熱可塑性材料から成る物品に関する。特に、本発明は、物品の2つのボディ部分を接合するために使用される摩擦溶接継手に関する。
物品の第1および第2のボディ部分を結合するための摩擦溶接継手の使用は、従来公知である。典型的な摩擦溶接継手は、第1のボディ部分から延びた第1のビードと、第2のボディ部分から延びた第2のビードとを有する。典型的な摩擦溶接継手の第1および第2のビードのそれぞれは、接触面を有する。第1および第2のビードの接触面は、互いに接触して配置され、第1および第2のビードの接触面において摩擦を発生するように第1のボディ部分に力が加えられる。第1および第2のビードは、熱可塑性材料から形成されており、摩擦は、熱可塑性材料のより高い温度を生ぜしめる。熱可塑性材料のより高い温度の結果、第1および第2のビードは互いに嵌合する。その後、熱可塑性材料を冷却させるために第1のボディ部分から力が除去され、これにより、第1および第2のビードの融合を生ぜしめる。
摩擦溶接継手は、熱可塑性材料を含む物品の第1および第2のボディ部分を結合する。第1のボディ部分は、第1の公称壁厚と、第1の継手面とを有する。第2のボディ部分は、第2の公称壁厚と、実質的に第1の継手面に対して平行な第2の継手面とを有する。摩擦溶接継手の合計ビード高さは、第1および第2の継手面の間に規定される。摩擦溶接継手は第1のビードを有する。第1のビードは、第1の継手面に結合されており、この第1の継手面から軸方向に延びており、第1のビード高さを規定している。第2のビードは、第2の継手面に結合されており、第2の継手面から軸方向に延びている。第2のビードは、第1および第2のボディ部分を互いに結合するために第1のビードにも結合されている。最終的な第2のビード高さは、第1のビードと第2の継手面との間に規定される。第2のビード高さに対する第1のビード高さの比は、約0.40〜約1.70である。第1および第2の公称壁厚のうちの少なくとも一方に対する合計ビード高さの比は、6.00以下である。最終的な第2のビード高さと等しいかまたはそれよりも大きな第1のビード高さを有し、かつ6.00以下の、第1および第2の公称壁厚のうちの少なくとも一方に対する合計ビード高さの比を有することは、摩擦溶接継手への、第1および第2のボディ部分に作用する応力の伝達を減じる。したがって、従来の溶接継手と比較して、摩擦溶接継手は、摩擦溶接継手故障を生じることなく、第1および第2のボディ部分に作用するより大きな応力に抵抗することができる。
本発明のその他の利点は容易に認められるであろう。なぜならば、本発明は、添付の図面に関連して考慮されたときに、以下の詳細な説明を参照することによりさらによく理解されるからである。
図面を参照すると、同じ参照符号は複数の図面を通じて対応する部材を示しており、物品12のための摩擦溶接継手10が概して示されている。図1および図2に示したように、物品12は、内燃機関用の吸気マニホルドとして形成されてもよい。しかしながら、物品12は、吸気マニホルド以外のあらゆるもの、例えば自動車用フロントおよびリアテールランプハウジング、燃料タンク、または2つの構成部材が振動溶接加工を用いて接合されるあらゆる用途に形成されてもよいことが理解されるべきであり、これは依然として開示の範囲に含まれる。
Claims (11)
- 熱可塑性材料を含む物品であって、該物品は、
第1の公称壁厚および第1の継手面を有する第1のボディ部分と、
第2の公称壁厚、および前記第1の継手面に対して実質的に平行な第2の継手面を有する第2のボディ部分と、
前記第1の継手面と前記第2の継手面との間に配置された摩擦溶接継手であって、前記第1の継手面と前記第2の継手面との間に規定された合計ビード高さを有する、摩擦溶接継手と、を備え、
該摩擦溶接継手は、
第1のビード高さを規定する、前記第1の継手面に結合されかつ該第1の継手面から軸方向に延びる第1のビードと、
前記第2の継手面に結合されかつ該第2の継手面から軸方向に延び、前記第1のボディ部分および前記第2のボディ部分を結合するための前記第1のビードに結合される第2のビードと、を有し、
前記第2のビードが、前記第1のビードに埋設され、前記第1のビードと前記第2の継手面との間に規定された最終的な第2のビード高さを有し、
前記最終的な第2のビード高さに対する前記第1のビード高さの比は、0.40〜1.70であり、
前記第1の公称壁厚および前記第2の公称壁厚のうちの少なくとも一方に対する前記合計ビード高さの比は、1.60〜5.50であり、かつ、
前記合計ビード高さは、6.5〜9.5mmであることを特徴とする、熱可塑性材料を含む物品。 - 前記最終的な第2のビード高さに対する前記第1のビード高さの前記比は、1.00以下であり、前記第1のビード高さは、2.00〜5.00mmである、請求項1記載の物品。
- 前記第1のボディ部分は、該第1のボディ部分の前記公称壁厚を規定する第1の壁部を有し、前記第2のボディ部分は、該第2のボディ部分の前記公称壁厚を規定する第2の壁部を有する、請求項1または2記載の物品。
- 前記第1のボディ部分は、前記第1の壁部から延びる第1のフランジを有しており、前記第1の継手面は前記第1のフランジに配置されている、請求項3記載の物品。
- 前記第2のボディ部分は、前記第2の壁部から延びる第2のフランジを有しており、前記第2の継手面は前記第2のフランジに配置されている、請求項4記載の物品。
- 前記第2のボディ部分は、それぞれ前記第2の継手面から延びる第1のバリダムおよび第2のバリダムを有しており、前記第2のバリダムは前記第1のバリダムから間隔を置いて配置されており、前記第2のビードは、前記バリダムから間隔を置いて、該バリダムの間に配置されている、請求項1から5までのいずれか1項記載の物品。
- 前記第1のビードおよび前記第2のビードは、ナイロン6、ナイロン6/6、塩化ポリビニル、ポリブチレンテレフタレート、ポリアセタール、およびそれらの組合せのグループから選択された材料を含む、請求項1から6までのいずれか1項記載の物品。
- 物品の第1のボディ部分と第2のボディ部分とを結合するための摩擦溶接継手であって、
前記物品は熱可塑性材料を含み、前記第1のボディ部分は第1の公称壁厚および第1の継手面を有し、前記第2のボディ部分は第2の公称壁厚、および前記第1の継手面に対して実質的に平行な第2の継手面を有し、
前記摩擦溶接継手は、
第1のビード高さを規定する、前記第1の継手面に結合されかつ該第1の継手面から軸方向に延びる第1のビードと、
前記第2の継手面に結合されかつ該第2の継手面から軸方向に延び、前記第1のボディ部分および前記第2のボディ部分を結合するために前記第1のビードに結合される第2のビードと、を有し、
前記第2のビードが、前記第1のビードに埋設され、前記第1のビードと前記第2の継手面との間に規定された最終的な第2のビード高さを有し、
前記最終的な第2のビード高さに対する前記第1のビード高さの比は、0.40〜1.70であり、
前記第1の継手面と前記第2の継手面との間に合計ビード高さが規定されており、
前記第1の公称壁厚および前記第2の公称壁厚のうちの少なくとも一方に対する前記合計ビード高さの比は、1.60〜5.50であり、かつ、
前記合計ビード高さは、6.5〜9.5mmであることを特徴とする、物品の第1のボディ部分と第2のボディ部分とを結合するための摩擦溶接継手。 - 前記最終的な第2のビード高さに対する前記第1のビード高さの前記比は、1.00以下であり、前記第1のビード高さは、2.00〜5.00mmである、請求項8記載の摩擦溶接継手。
- 前記第2のボディ部分は、それぞれ前記第2の継手面から延びる第1のバリダムおよび第2のバリダムを有しており、前記第2のバリダムは前記第1のバリダムから間隔を置いて配置されており、前記第2のビードは、前記バリダムから間隔を置いて、該バリダムの間に配置されている、請求項8または9記載の摩擦溶接継手。
- 前記第1のビードおよび前記第2のビードは、ナイロン6、ナイロン6/6、塩化ポリビニル、ポリブチレンテレフタレート、ポリアセタール、およびそれらの組合せのグループから選択された材料を含む、請求項8から10までのいずれか1項記載の摩擦溶接継手。
