Description
ディスクドライブなどのデータ記憶装置は、典型的には、磁気または光学ディスクなどの記憶媒体の表面に情報を記憶する。典型的なディスクドライブでは、1以上のディスクがともにスピンドルモータに取付けられる。スピンドルは、ディスクを回転させ、かつ、媒体のデータ表面を、記憶媒体に対してデータの読出および書込を行なう変換器を保持するそれぞれのヘッドスライダ下を通過させる。
一実施形態では、変換ヘッドと記憶媒体との間の接触を検出する方法が提供される。方法は、選択電力レベルおよび既知の周波数を有する入力信号を、変換ヘッドを作動させるためのアクチュエータに付与する。出力信号は、入力信号に応答して読出/書込チャネルにより得られる。コントローラは、アクチュエータに付与される入力信号と同一の既知の周波数または同一の既知の周波数の高調波の出力信号から少なくとも1つの信号成分を抽出する。少なくとも1つの抽出された信号成分が、変換ヘッドと媒体との間の接触を示すかどうかが判断される。入力信号をアクチュエータに付与すること、入力信号に応答して出力信号を得ること、および、出力信号から信号成分を抽出することは、抽出された信号成分がヘッドと記憶媒体との間の接触を示すまで、付与される波形の電力レベルを徐々に増加することによって繰返される。
本開示の実施形態は、データ記憶装置が較正されているときに使用されるヘッド対媒体の接触検出手法を提供する。一実施形態では、開示される接触検出手法は、変換ヘッドに結合されたアクチュエータまたはヒータを既知の周波数波形により駆動すること、および、応答波形において同一の周波数信号を同定する信号処理技術を用いることを含む。別の実施形態では、開示される接触検出手法は、既知の高周波パルス波形によりアクチュエータまたはヒータを駆動することを含む。データ記憶装置を較正するときヘッド対媒体接触がいつ起きるかを判断するのは、データ記憶動作およびヘッドのアクティブな間隙制御の間に使用され得る情報である。たとえば、アクティブな間隙制御(すなわち、書込器ヒータなどのヘッドに位置するアクチュエータを用いて、媒体とヘッドとの間の空間を制御する)は、較正中に集められる情報に基づき調節され得る。
Claims (5)
- 変換ヘッドと記憶媒体との間の接触を検出する方法であって、前記方法は、
選択電力レベルを有するとともに前記変換ヘッドを支持するサスペンションの固有振動数を除きかつ1kHz以下の既知の周波数を有する入力信号を、前記変換ヘッドを作動させるためのアクチュエータに付与するステップを含み、前記アクチュエータはヒータを含み、
前記方法は、さらに、前記入力信号に応答して前記変換ヘッドの読出素子からの出力信号を得るステップを含み、前記出力信号は位置誤差信号を含み、
前記方法は、さらに、
前記アクチュエータに付与される前記入力信号と同一の既知の周波数または同一の既知の周波数の高調波の周波数である参照周波数を有する信号を前記出力信号に乗ずることによって、前記参照周波数の前記出力信号から少なくとも1つの信号成分を抽出するステップと、
前記少なくとも1つの抽出された信号成分が、前記変換ヘッドと前記記憶媒体との間の接触を示すかどうかを判断するステップと、
前記入力信号を前記アクチュエータに付与するステップ、前記入力信号に応答して前記位置誤差信号を含む出力信号を得るステップ、および、前記出力信号から前記少なくとも1つの信号成分を抽出するステップを、前記少なくとも1つの抽出された信号成分が前記変換ヘッドと前記記憶媒体との間の接触を示すまで、付与される波形の電力レベルを増加することによって繰返すステップとを含む、方法。 - 前記少なくとも1つの抽出された信号成分が、前記変換ヘッドと前記記憶媒体との間の接触を示すかどうかを判断するステップは、前記少なくとも1つの抽出された信号成分が、しきい値よりも大きい値を有するときに前記接触が起きたと判断するステップを含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 変換ヘッドと記憶媒体との間の接触を検出する方法であって、前記方法は、
選択電力レベルを有するとともに前記変換ヘッドを支持するサスペンションの固有振動数を除きかつ1kHz以下の既知の周波数を有する入力信号を、前記変換ヘッドを作動させるためのアクチュエータに付与するステップを含み、前記アクチュエータはヒータを含み、
前記方法は、さらに、前記入力信号に応答して前記変換ヘッドの読出素子からの出力信号を得るステップを含み、前記出力信号は位置誤差信号を含み、
前記方法は、さらに、
前記アクチュエータに付与される前記入力信号と同一の既知の周波数または同一の既知の周波数の高調波の周波数である参照周波数を有する信号を前記出力信号に乗ずることによって、前記参照周波数の前記出力信号から少なくとも1つの信号成分を抽出するステップと、
前記少なくとも1つの抽出された信号成分がしきい値よりも大きい値を有するかどうかを判断するステップと、
前記アクチュエータに前記入力信号を付与するステップ、前記入力信号に応答して位置誤差信号を含む出力信号を得るステップ、および、前記出力信号から少なくとも1つの信号成分を抽出するステップを、前記少なくとも1つの抽出された信号成分の値が前記しきい値よりも大きくなるまで、付与される波形の電力レベルを増加することによって繰返すステップとを含む、方法。 - 変換ヘッドを作動させ、かつ、選択電力レベルを有するとともに前記変換ヘッドを支持するサスペンションの固有振動数を除きかつ1kHz以下の既知の周波数を有する入力信号を受信するように構成されるアクチュエータを備え、前記アクチュエータはヒータを含み、
さらに、前記入力信号に応答して前記変換ヘッドの読出素子からの出力信号を得るように構成されるチャネルを備え、前記出力信号は位置誤差信号を含み、
さらに、コントローラを備え、前記コントローラは、
前記アクチュエータに付与される前記入力信号と同一の既知の周波数または同一の既知の周波数の高調波の周波数である参照周波数を有する信号を前記出力信号に乗ずることによって、前記参照周波数の前記出力信号から少なくとも1つの信号成分を抽出し、かつ、
前記少なくとも1つの抽出された信号成分が、前記変換ヘッドと記憶媒体の表面との間の接触を示すかどうかを判断するように構成される、データ記憶装置。 - 前記コントローラは、前記出力信号からの前記少なくとも1つの抽出された信号成分が、しきい値よりも大きい値を有するとき、前記少なくとも1つの抽出された信号成分が、前記変換ヘッドと前記記憶媒体との間の接触を示すかどうかを判断する、請求項4に記載のデータ記憶装置。
