Claims (14)
- 基板および前記基板上の磁気記録層を備えた回転可能な磁気記録ディスクと、
前記磁気記録層と対向する記録層対向面を有するヘッドキャリアと、
前記磁気記録ディスクが回転する際に前記磁気記録層の領域を加熱するための前記ヘッドキャリア上の熱源と、
前記ヘッドキャリア上の書き込みヘッドであって、前記磁気記録ディスクが回転する際に、前記加熱された磁気記録層に磁気転移の略円形パスを生成する書き込みヘッドと、
前記磁気記録ディスクの略半径方向に前記ヘッドキャリアを移動させるための、前記ヘッドキャリアに接続されたアクチュエータであって、前記略円形パスのラジアル幅よりも小さい増分で前記書き込みヘッドを移動させることが可能であり、それによって、前記書き込みヘッドが、部分的に重なり合う前記略円形パスを生成し得るアクチュエータと、
を備えた熱アシスト磁気記録ディスクドライブであって、
前記磁気記録層の加熱領域は、前記書き込みヘッドのラジアル幅よりも広く、前記書き込みヘッドが位置するトラックと当該トラックの両側の2つのトラックとを合わせた幅よりも広い、
熱アシスト磁気記録ディスクドライブ。 - 前記部分的に重なり合う略円形パスは、前記磁気記録層上で環状バンドにグループ化される、
請求項1に記載の熱アシスト磁気記録ディスクドライブ。 - 前記ヘッドキャリア上に、前記略円形パスの重なり合わない部分における磁気転移を読み取るための磁気抵抗読み取りヘッドをさらに備えた、
請求項1に記載の熱アシスト磁気記録ディスクドライブ。 - レーザーをさらに備え、
前記熱源が、前記レーザーに結合し且つ前記記録層対向面に出力面を有する、レーザー光線を前記磁気記録層に向けるための光導波路を備えた、
請求項1に記載の熱アシスト磁気記録ディスクドライブ。 - 前記略円形パスにおける磁気転移の位置が、前記書き込みヘッドの書き込み磁場勾配によって決定される、
請求項1に記載の熱アシスト磁気記録ディスクドライブ。 - 前記磁気記録層は垂直磁気記録層であり、
前記磁気記録ディスクは、前記垂直磁気記録層の下に軟磁性下地層を有する、
請求項1に記載の熱アシスト磁気記録ディスクドライブ。 - 前記光導波路の出力面は、前記ヘッドキャリアの前記記録層対向面上の、前記略円形パスに沿った方向に前記書き込みヘッドから50nm以上の距離に位置する、
請求項4に記載の熱アシスト磁気記録ディスクドライブ。 - 前記熱源として電気抵抗加熱器を備えた、
請求項1に記載の熱アシスト磁気記録ディスクドライブ。 - 前記熱源は、前記磁気記録層のキュリー温度よりも低い温度にまで前記磁気記録層を加熱する、
請求項1に記載の熱アシスト磁気記録ディスクドライブ。 - 熱アシストシングル書き込み磁気記録ディスクドライブであり、
基板および前記基板上の垂直磁気記録層を備えた回転可能な磁気記録ディスクと、
前記垂直磁気記録層に対向する空気軸受面を有するスライダーと、
レーザーと、
前記スライダー上で前記レーザーと結合した光導波路であって、前記磁気記録ディスクが回転する際に前記垂直磁気記録層の領域を加熱するためのレーザー光線出力端部を前記空気軸受面に有する光導波路と、
前記空気軸受面においてラジアル幅を有する書き込み極先端を備えた前記スライダー上の書き込みヘッドであって、前記書き込み極先端は、前記加熱された垂直磁気記録層において、前記書き込み極先端の前記ラジアル幅と略等しいラジアル幅を有する磁気転移の略円形パスを生成する、書き込みヘッドと、
前記磁気記録ディスクの略半径方向に前記スライダーを移動させるための、前記スライダーに接続されたアクチュエータであって、前記アクチュエータは、前記書き込み極先端の前記ラジアル幅よりも小さい増分で前記書き込み極先端を移動させることが可能であり、それによって、前記書き込み極先端が、部分的に重なり合う前記略円形パスを生成可能で、前記垂直磁気記録層の加熱領域は、前記書き込み極先端の前記ラジアル幅よりも広く、前記書き込みヘッドが位置するトラックと当該トラックの両側の2つのトラックとを合わせた幅よりも広い、アクチュエータと、
前記空気軸受面において、前記略円形パスの重なり合わない部分を読み取るための、前記書き込み極先端の前記ラジアル幅よりも小さいラジアル幅を有する検出端部を備えた読み取りヘッドと、
を備えた熱アシストシングル書き込み磁気記録ディスクドライブ。 - 前記部分的に重なり合う略円形パスは、前記垂直磁気記録層上で環状バンドにグループ化される、
請求項10に記載の熱アシストシングル書き込み磁気記録ディスクドライブ。 - 前記光導波路の前記レーザー光線出力端部は、前記書き込み極先端の前記ラジアル幅の3倍よりも大きいラジアル幅を有する、
請求項10に記載の熱アシストシングル書き込み磁気記録ディスクドライブ。 - 前記垂直磁気記録層は、Co、Pt、およびCrを含む合金の顆粒層を備え、
前記レーザー光線出力端部は、保磁力Hcを少なくとも500Oeだけ低下させるのに十分な温度にまで、前記顆粒層を加熱することが可能な、
請求項10に記載の熱アシストシングル書き込み磁気記録ディスクドライブ。 - 前記垂直磁気記録層は、FePt、FeNiPt、Co3PtおよびCoSmから選択される規則合金、およびCo/Pt多重層およびCo/Pd多重層から選択される交互の膜の多重層から選択される、
請求項10に記載の熱アシストシングル書き込み磁気記録ディスクドライブ。
