Description
複数本の螺旋溝及び関連の切れ刃を超硬合金から成る全体として円筒形の細長い基体の端部分上に形成されたPCD層に形成することによってルータ工具用の先端部を製作することができる。超硬合金基体は、約10mmの端部直径及び約15mmの長さを有するのが良く、この超硬合金基体は、約13重量パーセントコバルト結合剤を含む。PCD層のための前駆体構造を受け入れる円筒形凹部を基体の遠位端部に隣接して且つ近位端部から遠位端部に向かって所与の距離にわたって延びるよう形成するのが良い。凹部の深さは、約3mmであるのが良い。
PCD構造を有する回転機械工具用のカッタ要素をこの実施例において説明するように製作することができる。一端部にPCD構造の加工面の意図した形状と全体として同一の形状を備えた内部形状を有するハウジングを用意し、PCD構造及び中間層のための前駆体層並びに基体本体をハウジングの状態に組み立てることによって予備焼結組立体を調製するのが良い。超硬合金基体を約13重量パーセントコバルト及び約4ミクロンから約6ミクロンまでの範囲の平均サイズを備えたWC結晶粒を含むコバルト焼結タングステンカーバイドで形成するのが良い。基体の近位端部は、ドーム状の形をしているのが良く、基体の最大横方向寸法は、約10mmであるのが良い。
Claims (4)
- 使用中における回転軸線を有するボールノーズエンドミル工具用のカッタ要素を製作する方法であって、前記カッタ要素は、前記使用中における回転軸線と実質的に非整列状態にある方向に動かされると、物体を切断するよう動作可能に構成され、多結晶立方晶窒化硼素(PCBN)材料を含む少なくとも一つのカッタ構造体により画成された少なくとも7つの切れ刃を有し、
前記方法は、
超硬合金基体に接合されたPCBN材料を有する超硬質構造体を有する前駆体を用意するステップを有し、前記前駆体は、全体としてドーム状の近位端部、遠位端部及び前記近位端部と前記遠位端部を連結した周囲側部を有し、
前記超硬質構造体は、前記近位端部に隣接する前記周囲側部に設けられ、
前記工具は、10〜25mmの横方向断面直径を有し、
前記PCBN材料は、W及びCoを含む化合物を含む結合剤中に分散された少なくとも80体積%の立方晶窒化硼素(cBN)粒子を含み、
前記方法は、放電機械加工により、前記周囲側部から前記超硬質構造体を部分的に除去して前記周囲側部に少なくとも7つの切れ刃を形成するステップを更に有し、隣り合う切れ刃は、最大で5mmの間隔をおいて配置される、
ことを特徴とする方法。 - 前記カッタ要素を機械加工して前記切れ刃の逃げ角及びレーキフェース角を形成するステップを有する、
請求項1記載の方法。 - 前記超硬構造体を部分的に除去して複数本の溝を形成するステップを有する、
請求項1又は2記載の方法。 - 凝集状態の複数個の立方晶窒化硼素(cBN)粒子を超硬合金基体の周面上に超高圧及び高温で互いに焼結することによって前記前駆体を用意するステップを有する、
請求項1〜3のいずれか1項に記載の方法。
