- 近接場光源であって、
上部磁極端層と、
前記上部磁極端層に磁気的に結合された磁極リップと、
空気軸受面とほぼ同一平面上に位置する外表面を有する金属層であって、前記上部磁極端層と前記磁極リップとに熱的に結合された金属層と、
前記金属層に設けられ、且つ1辺が前記磁極リップによって境界されるリッジ開口であって、前記金属層が、前記リッジ開口を画定する内側境界に第1の厚さを有し、前記金属層を画定する外側境界に前記第1の厚さより大きい第2の厚さを有する、リッジ開口と、
を含む近接場光源、
を有し、
前記金属層が第1の部分と第2の部分とを含む、
熱アシスト記録用薄膜磁気ヘッド。 - 前記金属層の内表面と接触する光導波路をさらに含み、

空気軸受面とほぼ同一平面上に位置する外表面を有する第1の金属層であって、前記上部磁極端層と前記磁極リップとに接触し、前記磁極リップとの接触部分に第1の厚さを有し、それが前記第1の厚さより大きい第2の厚さに移行する、第1の金属層と、
空気軸受面とほぼ同一平面上に位置する外表面を有する第2の金属層であって、前記第1の金属層に接触している第2の金属層と、
前記第2の金属層に設けられ、且つ1辺が前記磁極リップによって境界されるリッジ開口であって、前記第2の金属層が、前記リッジ開口との境界に前記第1の厚さを有し、前記第2の厚さに移行する、リッジ開口と、
を含む近接場光源、
を有する熱アシスト記録用薄膜磁気ヘッド。 - 前記第2の金属層の内表面と接触する光導波路をさらに含み、
