A)ネガ型の本発明の平版印刷版原版を画像様露光して画像形成性層に露光領域と非露光領域の両方を提供するステップと、

特に断らない限り、本明細書において使用される場合、「ネガ型平版印刷版原版」「ポジ型平版印刷版原版」及び「印刷版原版」という用語は、本発明の実施形態に関するものであることを意味する。
上記の利点を提供するために本発明で使用されるポリマー粒子は、3〜20μm(典型的には3〜8μm)の平均直径を有する。この寸法は、従来の手段を使用して、例えば市販のMicrotrac UPA150を使用して測定される。ポリマー粒子の形状はほぼ球状であるが、粒子の中には形状のある程度の変形がありうる。

平版印刷版原版は、単層又は多層の熱感応性ポジ型画像形成性要素とすることができる。一般に、このポジ型画像形成性要素は、適切な照射によりアルカリ現像液を含む処理溶液に可溶、分散可能、又は除去可能な1種又は複数のポリマーバインダー内に分散した輻射線吸収化合物を頼りにする。したがって、照射すると、画像形成性層は、その照射された(露光した)領域の処理溶液に対する溶解度特性が変化する。
平版印刷版原版は、任意の有用な形式及びサイズ又は形状を有することができ、それだけに限らないが、平型印刷版原版、印刷胴、印刷スリーブ(中空又は中実の両方)及び印刷テープ(フレキシブル印刷ウェブを含む)が挙げられる。
画像形成後の予熱ステップの必要性の有無にかかわらず、画像形成された平版印刷版原版は、慣用の処理と湿式現像液等の水性処理溶液を用いて「機外」で現像することができる。

A)実施形態1〜14のいずれか一項に記載のネガ型の原版を画像様露光して、画像形成性層に露光領域と非露光領域の両方を提供するステップと、
B)画像形成された原版を処理して前記非露光領域を除去するステップと、
を含む方法。
以下の材料が実施例において使用された。
調製1:160gのDowanol(登録商標)PM(プロピレングリコールメチルエーテル-PGME)及び20gのSBX-6μmビーズ[Sekisui Plastics Co. LTD (Japan)から入手可能]を、加熱マントル、温度調節器、メカニカルスターラー、凝縮器、等圧添加漏斗及び窒素導入口を備えた500mlの4口すりガラスフラスコに投入した。反応混合物を窒素雰囲気下80℃に加熱した。20gのアクリル酸及び0.4gのVazo-64重合開始剤の予備混合物を30分間かけて加えた。反応を80℃で4時間継続した後室温に冷却し、#50ろ紙(粒子保持2.7μm)でろ過した。固形物を100gのPGMEと300gの脱イオン水で再スラリー化し、反応混合物を室温で1時間撹拌した。次いでこの溶液をろ過し、固形物を400gの水で再スラリー化し、この溶液を更に1時間撹拌した。この溶液をろ過し、得られたポリマーを60℃のオーブン中で16時間乾燥した。ポリマー粉体の実際の酸価は2.7であった。
SBX-6μmビーズを脱イオン水に溶解し、室温で1時間撹拌した。得られた溶液の湿潤性は非常に低かった。同じビーズをアルカリ現像液中で撹拌すると、ビーズはスラリー中に残り、粒子がビーカーの底に沈降した。様々な調製組成物の結果を以下のTABLE I(表1)に示す:
(比較例1)
TABLE II(表2)中の下記成分を2-メトキシプロパノール50重量%及び2-ブタノン50重量%を含む混合溶媒に溶解して、固形分8重量%を含む画像形成性層配合物を形成した。この配合物をアルミニウム基板上に乾燥付着量1.3g/m2でコーティングした。このアルミニウム基板は、脱脂、電気化学的砂目立て、陽極酸化処理、ポリ(ビニルホスホン酸)による封止を含む、平版印刷版のための典型的なプロセスで処理したものである。コーティングは100℃で1分間乾燥した。
TABLE IV(表4)の下記成分を保護膜(トップコート)配合物に使用したことを除いては比較例1を繰り返した。
調製4、4A、4B及び4Cからの粒子を使用して上記比較例1のSBX-6μmを置き換えた。
調製4、4A、4B及び4Cからの粒子を使用して上記比較例2のSBX-6μmを置き換えた。
比較例1(SBX-6μm粒子)及び発明例1〜4(調製4、4A、4B及び4Cを使用)からの印刷版原版の試料をサイズ7×7cmにトリムした。ポリエチレンテレフタレート(PET)フィルム(5×5cm)をそれぞれの印刷版試料上に置いた後、この試験版をPETフィルムを介して吸引ディスクを使用して持ち上げた。試験手順を、以下に記載し、図2に略図的に示す。
新聞印刷用イメージセッターのオートローダーの故障を防ぐためには、印刷版剥離試験における保持時間は短い必要がある。印刷版剥離試験用の測定手順を以下のように記載し、図2に示す。
(a)PETフィルムを試験板の上に置いた。
(b)吸引ディスクをPETフィルム上に置いた。
(c)印刷版原版試料をPETフィルムを介して吸引ディスクを使用して持ち上げた。
(d)空気をPETフィルムと試験版の間の最も狭い隙間へ流した。
(e)印刷版原版は空気流入により落下した。
印刷版原版が落下するまでの保持時間を、印刷版原版装填特性(printing plate precursor loading property)を表わす値として測定した(10回の平均)。結果は図1のグラフ(様々な調製及び比較例1の剥離時間、秒)に示す。
Claims (10)
- 基板を含み、その上に画像形成性層を有するネガ型平版印刷版原版であって、
前記原版がその最外層に平均直径3〜20μmのポリマー粒子を含み、
前記ポリマー粒子が、架橋ポリマーのコアを含み、かつグラフト親水性ポリマー表面基を有しており、

- 前記親水性モノマーが、アミド、スルホン酸、スルホン酸塩、カルボン酸、カルボン酸塩、リン酸、リン酸塩、ホスホン酸、ホスホン酸塩及びポリアルキレンオキシド基からなる群から選択される1種又は複数の親水基を含む、請求項1から4のいずれか一項に記載のネガ型平版印刷版原版。
- 前記グラフト親水性ポリマー表面基が最大10個の反復単位を含む、請求項1から5のいずれか一項に記載のネガ型平版印刷版原版。
- 開始剤組成物及び任意に前記ポリマー粒子を含むネガ型画像形成性層を有する、請求項1から6のいずれか一項に記載のネガ型平版印刷版原版。
- 前記開始剤組成物がオニウム塩を含む、請求項7に記載のネガ型平版印刷版原版。
- ネガ型平版印刷版の製造方法であって、
A)請求項1から8のいずれか一項に記載のネガ型の平版印刷版原版を画像様露光して、画像形成性層に露光領域と非露光領域の両方を提供するステップと、
B)画像形成された原版を処理して前記非露光領域を除去するステップと
を含む方法。 - 各ネガ型平版印刷版原版の最外層が、積層体のそれぞれ次のネガ型平版印刷版原版の基板と直接接触している、請求項1から8のいずれか一項に記載のネガ型平版印刷版原版の少なくとも5個の積層体。
