Description
a)UEB=0であるものとする。電子注入に使用されるエミッタ層(E)は、pドープされたベース層によって有機層スタック(コレクタ層)から分離される。この場合、理想的には、UCB>0であっても電子は注入されない。この場合のOLEDは、光を放出することができない単一の電荷(正孔)担体デバイスに過ぎない。
b)エミッタ・ベースダイオードに順バイアス(UEB<0)を印加すると、電子は、エミッタ層からベース層を通ってコレクタ層(有機層スタック)内へ拡散する。典型的にベース電流は、得られるコレクタ電流よりも2桁小さい。従って、ベース層は(UCBには無関係に)電子で溢れるようになる。これらの電子は、エレクトロルミネセント光を発生させるために、例えば有機発光層(コレクタC)のような有機層スタック内へ注入するのに利用することができる。ベース・エミッタ界面における電子濃度が非常に増加するので、拡散によって、及びUCB>0によって電子は有機層スタック内へ注入される。これは、UCBに影響を与えることなくUEBによって制御することができる。エミッタ層がnドープされ、ベース層がpドープされている場合には、少数電荷担体からなる拡散テールが存在する。もしエミッタ・ベースダイオードが順方向に十分にバイアスされれば、ベース層内の電子の拡散テールは、それがベース・コレクタ接合に達するまで増加することができる。これらの電子は、その後に逆バイアスされたベース・コレクタ接合内へ、従って有機層スタック内へ注入され、有機発光層もエレクトロルミネセント光を放出する。
−有機発光層を通る電荷担体の輸送を調整するために、第2電極と第1ベース層とにまたがって第1電圧UCBを印加するステップと、
−第1電極から有機発光層内への電子または正孔の何れかの注入を調整するために、第1エミッタ層と第1ベース層とにまたがって第2電圧UEBを印加するステップと、
を含む。
−第2電極から有機発光層内への正孔または電子の注入を調整するために、第2エミッタ層と第2ベース層とにまたがって第3電圧UEB2を印加するステップ
を含む。
−光を放出させるピクセルに第2電圧UEBを順バイアスモードで印加するステップと、
−光を放出させないピクセルに第2電圧UEBを逆バイアスモードで印加するステップと、
−第2電圧の順バイアスモードまたは逆バイアスモードでの印加を、制御ユニットを介して制御するステップと、
を含む。有機層スタック内への注入はUEBによって舵取りすることができるから、この原理を、OLEDディスプレイのピクセルをオン及びオフにスイッチさせるのに使用することができる。従って、本発明は、本発明による有機発光デバイスを備えているディスプレイデバイスのピクセルをアドレスするのにも使用することができる。
Claims (10)
- バイポーラトランジスタと類似動作させるのに適する有機発光デバイスであって、第1電極と第2電極との間に配列されているコレクタ層としての少なくとも1つの有機発光層を含み、
上記第1電極は、第1エミッタ層と、上記第1エミッタ層と上記コレクタ層との間に配列されている第1ベース層とを含み、
上記第2電極は、第2エミッタ層と、上記第2エミッタ層と上記コレクタ層との間に配列されている第2ベース層とを含む、
ことを特徴とする有機発光デバイス。 - 上記第1電極は、可視光に対して透明であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の有機発光デバイス。
- 上記第1電極の材料は、1つまたはそれ以上のドーピング状態にあるGaN、InGaN、AlGaN、InAlN、GaInAlN、GaAs、AlGaAs、GaP、InP、あるいはIn2O3、SnO2、ZnOまたはCuAlO2のような酸化物材料のグループの少なくとも1つの材料からなることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の有機発光デバイス。
- 上記有機発光層は、少なくとも、第1の色の光を放出するのに適する第1副層、及び上記第1の色とは異なる第2の色の光を放出する第2副層を含むことを特徴とする請求項1乃至3の何れかに記載の有機発光デバイス。
- 上記第1電極の第1エミッタ層及び第1ベース層は、第1電極のピクセルのアレイを形成して別々に動作させるのに適するように構造化されていることを特徴とする請求項1乃至4の何れかに記載の有機発光デバイス。
- 請求項5に記載の有機発光デバイスを備えたディスプレイデバイスであって、上記ピクセルの少なくとも幾つかを他のピクセルから独立的に順バイアスモードまたは逆バイアスモードで動作させるのに適する動作ユニットを更に含むことを特徴とするディスプレイデバイス。
- 有機発光デバイスを動作させる方法であって、
前記有機発光デバイスは、第1電極と第2電極との間に配列されているコレクタ層としての少なくとも1つの有機発光層を含み、上記第1電極は、第1エミッタ層と、上記第1エミッタ層と上記コレクタ層との間に配列されている第1ベース層とを含み、上記第2電極は、第2エミッタ層と、上記第2エミッタ層と上記コレクタ層との間に配列されている第2ベース層とを含み、
前記方法は、
上記有機発光層を通る電荷担体の輸送を調整するために、上記第2電極と第1ベース層とにまたがって第1電圧を印加するステップと、
上記第1電極から有機発光層内への電子または正孔の何れかの注入を調整するために、上記第1エミッタ層と第1ベース層とにまたがって第2電圧を印加するステップと、
上記第2電極から有機発光層内への正孔または電子の注入を調整するために、上記第2エミッタ層と第2ベース層とにまたがって第3電圧を印加するステップと、
を含むことを特徴とする方法。 - 再結合ゾーンの位置及び/または幅を本質的に上記有機発光層内に位置決めするように調整するために、適当な第1電圧及び第2電圧を選択するステップを更に含むことを特徴とする請求項7に記載の方法。
- 上記有機発光層は、少なくとも、第1の色の光を放出するのに適する第1副層、及び上記第1の色とは異なる第2の色の光を放出する第2副層を含み、再結合ゾーンを本質的に1つの副層内に位置決めするために、適当な第1電圧及び第2電圧を選択することを特徴とする請求項7又は8に記載の方法。
- 請求項6に記載のディスプレイデバイスを動作させる方法であって、
光を放出させるピクセルに第2電圧を順バイアスモードで印加するステップと、
光を放出させないピクセルに第2電圧を逆バイアスモードで印加するステップと、
各ピクセルへの上記第2電圧の順バイアスモードまたは逆バイアスモードでの印加を、
制御ユニットを介して制御するステップと、
を含むことを特徴とする方法。
