Description
少なくとも第1の領域を覆う疎水性層を設けるステップと、
表示区域の実質的に外側にある第2の領域において疎水性層の疎水性を低下させるステップと、
第1の領域において疎水性層上に壁を形成するステップとを含む。
接着促進剤を付与することによっても局所的に低下させることができる。
Claims (15)
- 複数の画素を有するエレクトロウェッティング表示デバイスを作製する方法であって、前記画素の各々が、表示区域を囲む複数の壁によって画定され、前記エレクトロウェッティング表示デバイスが、疎水性を有する疎水性層によって覆われた支持板を含み、前記壁が、前記疎水性層上に配置されたパターン付き壁層の一部分であり、前記複数の画素が、前記支持板の第1の領域を覆っており、
(i)前記疎水性層を前記支持板に設けるステップであって、前記疎水性層が、少なくとも前記第1の領域を覆う、ステップと、
(ii)前記表示区域の少なくとも一部において前記疎水性層の疎水性を低下させることなく、実質的に前記表示区域の外側にある第2の領域において前記疎水性層の疎水性を低下させるステップと、
(iii)前記パターン付き壁層を前記疎水性層上に形成するステップであって、前記パターン付き壁層が配置される領域の前記疎水性が高い値と低い値の間で変化するように、前記第2の領域上に前記パターン付き壁層を部分的に形成するとともに、前記第2の領域よりも高い疎水性を有する領域上に前記パターン付き壁層を部分的に形成するステップとを含む方法。 - 前記第2の領域が前記第1の領域の外側にある、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記第2の領域が、部分的に前記第1の領域の外側にあり、部分的に前記第1の領域の内側にある、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記第2の領域が前記第1の領域の内側にある、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記第2の領域が、前記表示区域の開始領域を形成する、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記疎水性を低下させる前記ステップが、反応性イオンエッチング、プラズマ処理、UVオゾン処理、又は化学処理を含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記疎水性層への前記壁の材料の付着力を強化するために接着促進剤を堆積するステップを含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記第2の領域が、少なくとも部分的に前記第1の領域の内側に存在して、前記壁の少なくとも一部の広さを有し、前記第2の領域の外側にある前記第1の領域の部分が、前記疎水性層の前記疎水性が低下するのを防止するパターン層で覆われる、請求項6に記載の方法。
- 前記パターン層がフォトリソグラフィプロセスを用いて作製される、請求項8に記載の方法。
- 前記壁が、前記疎水性層上に前記パターン付き壁層を堆積することにより形成される、請求項1〜9のいずれか一項に記載の方法。
- 前記パターン付き壁層が、マスクを通して壁層材料を堆積することにより、又は前記疎水性層に対するフォトリソグラフィプロセスによりパターニングされる、請求項10に記載の方法。
- 前記第2の領域が前記表示区域を囲み、前記第2の領域上に前記パターン付き壁層を部分的に形成する前記ステップが、前記パターン付き壁層の材料のウェットプロセスを含み、該ウェットプロセスでは、前記パターン付き壁層の材料が与えられた後に、前記パターン付き壁層の材料が自発的に自らを前記第2の領域上に配置する、請求項1に記載の方法。
- それぞれが表示区域を囲む複数の壁によって画定される複数の画素を有するエレクトロウェッティング表示デバイスであって、
疎水性を有する疎水性層によって覆われた支持板を含み、前記壁が、前記疎水性層上に配置されたパターン付き壁層の一部分であり、前記パターン付き壁層が配置される領域の前記疎水性が、高い値と低い値の間で変化する、エレクトロウェッティング表示デバイス。 - 前記複数の画素が、支持板の第1の領域を覆い、前記疎水性層の前記疎水性が、前記第1の領域の外側の前記支持板の第2の領域で低い値を有する、請求項13に記載のエレクトロウェッティング表示デバイス。
- 前記表示区域が開始領域を含み、前記疎水性が、前記開始領域の外側の前記表示区域の領域では高い値を有し、前記開始領域と前記表示区域の間の領域とでは低い値を有する、請求項13又は14に記載のエレクトロウェッティング表示デバイス。
