Description
2つの試料、すなわち本明細書中の実施形態にしたがって形成された第1の試料S1と従来のボンド材料を有する第2の従来の試料CS1とを調製した。試料S1およびCS1を特定の研削条件下で試験して、その性能特性を比較した。
試料S1と同じ構造を有する別の試料(S2)を、試料S1の方法にしたがって形成した。下表3は、モル%単位の材料構成成分の初期ボンド組成を要約したものである。本明細書中で開示されているプロセスに係るボンド研磨材料を形成した後、試料を切片化し、1200倍の倍率で検分して、不動態化領域の性質を判定した。
試料S1と同じ構造を有する別の試料(S3)を、試料S1の方法にしたがって形成した。下表4は、モル%単位の材料構成成分の初期ボンド組成を要約したものである。
Claims (13)
- ボンド材料のマトリクス内部に含まれる砥粒を含む研磨体を含む研磨物品において、前記研磨体が、前記砥粒の少なくとも60%をとり囲むように覆う、スピネル材料を含む不動態化領域を前記ボンド材料内部にさらに含み、前記ボンド材料は酸化マグネシウムを含み、前記ボンド材料内の酸化マグネシウムの含有量は、前記ボンド材料内の他のいずれのアルカリ土類酸化物化合物の量よりも少なくとも2倍多い、研磨物品。
- ボンド材料内部に砥粒を含む研磨体を含む研磨物品において、前記砥粒が微結晶酸化アルミニウムを含み、前記研磨体がさらに前記砥粒と前記ボンド材料間の界面に配置された、スピネル材料を含む不動態化領域を前記ボンド材料内部に含み、前記不動態化領域が前記砥粒の少なくとも60%をとり囲み、前記ボンド材料は酸化マグネシウムを含み、前記ボンド材料内の酸化マグネシウムの含有量は、前記ボンド材料内の他のいずれのアルカリ土類酸化物化合物の量よりも少なくとも2倍多い、研磨物品。
- 研磨物品を形成する方法において、
砥粒をボンド材料粉末と混合するステップと;
前記混合物を形成して未加工体を形成するステップと;
前記未加工体を処理してボンド材料中に砥粒を含む研磨物品を形成するステップと、
を含み、処理中に、前記ボンド材料内部の前記砥粒のまわりにスピネル材料を含む不動態化領域が、当該不動態化領域が前記砥粒の少なくとも60%をとり囲むように形成され、前記ボンド材料は酸化マグネシウムを含み、前記ボンド材料内の酸化マグネシウムの含有量は、前記ボンド材料内の他のいずれのアルカリ土類酸化物化合物の量よりも少なくとも2倍多い、方法。 - 前記砥粒が、砥粒の第1の部分を含み、前記研磨物品がさらに、前記砥粒の前記第1の部分と異なる組成を有する砥粒の第2の部分を含む、請求項1、または2に記載の研磨物品。
- 前記スピネル材料が、一般等式AB2O4によって表わされ、式中Aはマグネシウム、亜鉛、マンガン、鉄およびその組合せからなる群から選択される元素であり、Bはアルミニウム、クロム、鉄およびその組合せからなる群から選択される元素であり、Oが酸素である、請求項1、または2に記載の研磨物品。
- 前記スピネル材料がMgAl2O4を含む、請求項1、または2に記載の研磨物品。
- 前記ボンド材料がガラス質材料を含む、請求項1、または2に記載の研磨物品。
- 前記ボンド材料が少なくとも45モル%の量でシリカ(SiO2)を含む、請求項1、または2に記載の研磨物品。
- 前記ボンド材料が酸化ホウ素(B2O3)を含む、請求項1、または2に記載の研磨物品。
- 前記ボンド材料が、酸化リチウム(Li2O)、酸化カリウム(K2O)、酸化ナトリウム(Na2O)、酸化セシウム(Cs2O)およびその組合せからなる酸化物化合物群から選択されるアルカリ性酸化物化合物を含み、前記ボンド材料が、20モル%以下のアルカリ性酸化物化合物合計含有量[Caoc]を含む、請求項1、または2に記載の研磨物品。
- 前記ボンド材料が少なくとも1.0モル%の酸化マグネシウムを含む、請求項1、または2に記載の研磨物品。
- 前記ボンド材料が酸化亜鉛(ZnO)を含む、請求項1、または2に記載の研磨物品。
- 前記スピネル材料を含む不動態化領域は、前記ボンド材料内のマグネシウムと砥粒との反応によって形成される、請求項1、または2に記載の研磨物品。
