Description
本発明の別の態様においては、植物を枯殺、制御または抑制するための方法であって、(1)水、除草作用のあるリモネン成分、乳化剤、湿潤剤および5を超えるpHを与える効果のあるpH調整剤を含有する液体除草剤組成物を用意すること;及び、(2)植物の1つまたは複数の葉にその除草剤組成物を吹付けること;を含む方法が提供される。
本明細書に取り上げられている本発明の本質そのものは、本明細書に添付されている特許請求の範囲との関連でのみ決定されるが、本明細書に開示されている好ましい実施形態の特徴であるいくつかの形および特徴を、以後簡単に説明する。
さらなる態様において、本発明は、本発明によって提供される除草剤組成物を1種または複数種の不要な植物に適用する、不要な植物の成長を枯殺、制御または抑制するための方法を提供する。次いで、その組成物は、植物、好ましくはその植物の葉と、その植物を枯殺、制御または抑制するのに十分な時間、接触を維持することを可能にする。所与の植物の有効な処理のために必要な時間は、様々な要因に依存し、非限定的には、除草剤溶液の濃度、吹付け範囲、pH、植物の種類、植物の大きさ/年齢/成熟度、葉表面またはその他の緑の表面の利用の可能性および周囲条件を含む要因に依存する。
実施例1
除草剤配合物の調製
除草剤配合物(MM−01)を、本発明により、94.0重量%のリモネンを以下の乳化剤:1.3重量%のTergitol(テルギトール;商標)NP−8(ノニルフェノールエトキシレート界面活性剤)、2.0重量%のTergitol(商標)NP−9(ノノキシノール9.5界面活性剤)および2.7重量%のPluracol(プルラコル;登録商標)P−425(ポリプロピレングリコール界面活性剤)、と共に含有するように調製した。得られた配合物は、リモネンを88重量%含有する。この除草剤配合物の378.5リットル(100ガロン)のバッチを製造するために、各成分を1つずつ加え、各添加後および次の成分を添加する前にその混合物を10分間撹拌して成分の完全かつ均一なブレンドを確保した。すべての成分を混合した後、そのバッチをさらに10分間かき混ぜ、品質管理のため試験し、濾過して適当な容器に充填した。
除草剤組成物の調製
前記配合物を、水:除草剤配合物比で表して3:1の容量比となるように水で希釈し、除草剤組成物(リモネン22重量%)を提供した。3:1の比率の組成物のpHは、4.5であったと推測される。最初の試験バッチにおいてはレモンジュースによりpHを4まで下げ、2番目の試験バッチにおいては炭酸カリウムによりpH9に上昇させた。さらに、3番目の試験バッチにおいては、3:1の比率の除草剤組成物を、0.05%のシリコーン系界面活性剤(Silwet;シルウェット)を添加することにより変性した。
除草剤組成物を試験するための手順
この実地試験は、2004年11月中に北カリフォルニアにおいて実施した。上記の除草剤組成物のそれぞれを、背負い式スプレー装置で流出がない良好な被覆を確保するように発芽後の植物に吹付けた。最初に評価した雑草は、ギョウギシバ(Bermuda grass)、ウシノケグサ(fescue)、およびストロベリー・クローバーである。
考察
すべての処理が3:1の比率(水:リモネン配合物)で受けたこの試験においては、植物は非常に速やかに反応した。広葉植物においては変色の後に壊死が続き、葉組織の黒変が2〜4時間以内に起こった。イネ科の草においては反応はもっと緩やかであり、葉は緑から黄色、褐色へと徐々に変化する傾向があった。
pHおよび界面活性剤に起因する差異は非常にはっきりしている。処理後7日において、しおれおよび色に対する界面活性剤の影響を記録したので、その結果を下の表1に示す。
pH9の使用は、しおれの評点を22.3%、色の評点を40.2%増した。
フロリダ州Zellwoodにおいて実地試験を行った。実施例1で記載した同じ配合物をフロリダの試験で使用した。すべてのリモネン処理は、22重量%のリモネンの除草剤組成物を提供する、水:除草剤配合物比で表して3:1の容量比で行った。1処理当たり4回の反復を使用し、すべての処理は反復の中で無作為に分布させた。雑草の種類は、アカザ(common lambsquaters;高さが30.5〜61cm(1〜2フィート))であった。適用した処理は、シリコーン界面活性剤Silwetの有りおよび無しでのpH3、7、8および9であり;各処理は流出しきるまで吹付けた。市販のバーンダウン標準品Gramoxone(パラコート)を含めた。読み取りは1および2時間、ならびに1、3および7日に行った。アカザの即時のしおれが始めの1時間からすべてのリモネン処理で観察された。Gramoxone(パラコート)による効果は1日目に最初に観察され3日目まで増大した。最初の2時間が経った後リモネンの効果は安定化した。3日後の結果を図7に示す。
主要な雑草についてのリモネンの反応を最大限に利用するために、一連の試験を、ミシガン州イーストランシングにあるミシガン州立大学(MSU)において行った。イネ科の草はリモネンに強く反応して、すべての処理が優れた除草剤反応を与えるために、pHおよび界面活性剤の評価に関してのそれらの適合性を損なう。成熟したアカザは、リモネンに十分に反応せず、これらの試験のための良好な候補となる。
以下の実施例4〜7に記載のさらなる一連の温室の試験的処理も、ミシガン州立大学(MSU)で実施した。典型的には4〜8枚の葉の段階の雑草を、対照および試験配合物と接触させた。用いた散布量は、275.8kPa(40psi)のスプレー圧で、1m2当たり56.1ml(1エーカー当たり60ガロン)であった。処理の1日後(実施例4〜5)およびさらに処理の5日後(実施例6〜7)に植物の状態を測定し、百分率で表す制御を評価した。これらの実施例のすべてに対して成分の割合(%)は、特に他に断りのない限り、常に組成物全体の重量百分率(w/w%)で示されている。
アカザ(Chenopodium album)を以下のように調合した6個の異なる組成物のそれぞれと接触させた:1)脱イオン水単独(対照);2)21.6%のd−リモネン、5%のアルコールエトキシレート(BIO−SOFT(登録商標)N25−7)、1.3%のヒマシ油エトキシレート(TOXIMUL(登録商標)8242)、および残りが水;3)水中の21.6%のd−リモネン単独;4)水中の10%のBIO−SOFT(登録商標)N25−7;5)水中の5%のTOXIMUL(登録商標)8242および3%の過酸化水素(TOXIMUL(登録商標)8242の水溶性を増すため);および6)水中の5%のTOXIMUL(登録商標)8242単独。BIO−SOFT(登録商標)およびTOXIMUL(登録商標)8242は、22 W Frontage Rd Northfield,IL 60093にあるThe Stepan Companyの登録商標である。これらの試験および観察の結果を下の表4に提供する。
実施例4で行った検討をアキノエノコログサ(Setaria faberi)で繰り返した。その結果を下の表5に提供する。
アカザ(Chenopodium album)を下の表6に示した9個の異なる配合物とここで接触させた。処理後1日と5日の両方で、植物の状態を調べ、百分率で表した制御(%コントロール)を目視観察により評価した。結果を下の表6に提供する。
イチビ(Abutilon theoprasti)を下の表7に示す構成の9個のさらなる配合物とここで接触させた。処理後1日と5日の両方で、植物の状態を調べ、百分率で表した制御(%コントロール)を目視観察により評価した。結果を下の表7に提供する。
Claims (16)
- 成熟した雑草に対して効果的な除草剤組成物であって、
水、
12重量%〜30重量%の、リモネン、リモネン抽出物、リモネンを含有する組成物、及びリモネンを含有する精油から選択される除草作用のあるリモネン成分、
0.05重量%〜10重量%の、ポリエトキシレート化ヒマシ油乳化剤、および
0.05重量%〜10重量%の、アルコールエトキシレート界面活性剤
を含み、5を超えるpHを有する、前記除草剤組成物。 - 6から8のpHを有する、請求項1に記載の除草剤組成物。
- 前記除草作用のあるリモネン成分を、15重量%から25重量%含む、請求項1に記載の除草剤組成物。
- 0.02重量%〜1.0重量%の湿潤剤をさらに含む、請求項1に記載の除草剤組成物。
- 前記湿潤剤がシリコーン界面活性剤である、請求項4に記載の除草剤組成物。
- 前記湿潤剤が、アニオン性および非イオン性界面活性剤ならびにそれらのいずれか1つまたは複数の混合物からなる群から選択される、請求項4に記載の除草剤組成物。
- 前記除草剤組成物が炭酸カリウム、水酸化カリウムおよび水酸化ナトリウムからなる群から選択されるpH調整剤を含有する、請求項1に記載の除草剤組成物。
- 植物を枯殺、制御または抑制する方法であって、
(a)請求項1に記載の液体除草剤組成物を用意すること;及び
(b)前記除草剤組成物を植物の1つまたは複数の葉に吹付けること;
を含む、前記方法。 - 前記吹付けは、前記除草剤組成物が植物の1つまたは複数の葉の表面積の少なくとも60%と接触するやり方で吹付けることを含む、請求項8に記載の方法。
- 前記組成物が6から8のpHを有する、請求項8に記載の方法。
- 前記除草剤組成物が炭酸カリウム、水酸化カリウムおよび水酸化ナトリウムからなる群から選択されるpH調整剤を含有する、請求項8に記載の方法。
- 前記除草剤組成物が湿潤剤をさらに含む、請求項8に記載の方法。
- 前記湿潤剤がシリコーン界面活性剤である、請求項12に記載の方法。
- 前記湿潤剤が、前記組成物中に0.02重量%〜1重量%の濃度で存在する、請求項12に記載の方法。
- 前記湿潤剤が、アニオン性および非イオン性界面活性剤ならびにそれらのいずれか1つまたは複数の混合物からなる群から選択される、請求項12に記載の方法。
- 前記吹付けは、前記除草剤組成物を領域に0.5ガロン/エーカーから100ガロン/エーカー(0.47ml/m2から9.35ml/m2)の割合で吹付けることを含む、請求項8に記載の方法。
