従って、実施形態1においては、リセット工程で発光素子10のアノード−カソード間の電位差が閾値電圧Vth,i−v(図14−1)以上であって、閾値電圧Vth,L−v未満であるため、図4に示したようにわずかに電流id_OLED’が流れるが、発光しない。
一方、第2電極18の電位は、信号線2を介して供給されるVDLとされる。なお、期間t2は例えばアモルファスシリコンによる薄膜トランジスタのような移動度の低い素子をドライバ素子として利用する場合に設置することが望ましく、ポリシリコンのように移動度の高いものは、この期間t2を設置しなくても動作させることが可能である。

Claims (2)
- 有機EL素子と、
ゲート電極とソース電極とドレイン電極とを有し、前記有機EL素子が前記ソース電極と前記ドレイン電極のうちの一方の電極に電気的に接続される駆動トランジスタと、
走査信号に応じて、前記駆動トランジスタの前記ゲート電極と前記駆動トランジスタの前記一方の電極とを短絡するスイッチングトランジスタと、を備えた画像表示装置の駆動方法において、
前記スイッチングトランジスタの前記ゲート電極の電位を制御することにより前記スイッチングトランジスタをオンに設定し、且つ前記駆動トランジスタの前記ソース電極と前記ドレイン電極のうちの他方の電極の電位を制御することにより前記駆動トランジスタをオフに設定した状態で、各画素の駆動トランジスタの前記ゲート電極に、電位を供給する第1の工程と、
前記スイッチングトランジスタの前記ゲート電極の電位を制御することにより前記スイッチングトランジスタをオンに設定し、且つ前記駆動トランジスタの前記他方の電極の電位を制御することにより前記駆動トランジスタをオンに設定することで、前記駆動トランジスタの前記他方の電極に対する前記ゲート電極の電位を駆動閾値よりも高くし、その後、前記駆動トランジスタのゲート電極から前記スイッチングトランジスタを介して前記駆動トランジスタの前記他方の電極に電流を供給することで前記駆動トランジスタの前記他方の電極に対する前記ゲート電極の電位を駆動閾値とする第2の工程と、
を含み、
前記第1の工程で前記有機EL素子の両端に印加される電位差が、前記有機EL素子において発光し始める当該有機EL素子の第2閾値電圧以下であり、
前記第1の工程で前記駆動トランジスタのゲート電極に供給される電位は前記有機EL素子を介して供給され、且つ前記第1の工程で前記有機EL素子の両端に印加される電位差が前記有機EL素子において電流が流れ始める当該有機EL素子の第1閾値電圧以上であることを特徴とする画像表示装置の駆動方法。 - 前記画像表示装置は、第1電極と第2電極を備え、前記第1電極に前記駆動トランジスタの前記ゲート電極が接続される容量素子を更に備え、
前記スイッチングトランジスタの前記ゲート電極の電位を制御することにより前記スイッチングトランジスタをオフに設定し、且つ前記駆動トランジスタの前記ゲート電極の電位を前記容量素子を介して制御することにより前記駆動トランジスタをオンに設定することで、前記有機EL素子を発光させる第3の工程をさらに含むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の画像表示装置の駆動方法。
