また、本発明に係る平板表示装置のデータ多重変調方法は、液晶表示パネルの明暗比を調整するために、前記液晶パネルに示されるデジタルビデオデータの輝度を分析し、前記輝度の分析結果に基づいて、予め格納された第1補償値を用いて、前記デジタルビデオデータを1次変調する段階;前記液晶表示パネルの応答特性を調整するために、予め格納された第2補償値を用いて、前記1次変調されたデジタルビデオデータを2次変調する段階;同一の階調を前記液晶表示パネルに示す際に、正常表示面に比べて輝度が異なるように映される不良表示領域に示される前記2次変調されたデジタルビデオデータを、予め格納された第3補償値を用いて3次変調する段階を含み、前記3次変調する段階は、前記正常表示面に比べて暗く映される第1不良表示領域に示されるデジタルビデオデータに前記第3補償値を加算し;前記正常表示面に比べて明るく映される第2不良表示領域に示されるデジタルビデオデータに前記第3補償値を減算し、前記不良表示領域のデジタルビデオデータを前記3次変調する以前に、前記明暗比の調整のための前記1次変調及び前記応答特性の調整のための前記2次変調を行う。
上記目的の外、本発明の他の目的及び特徴は、添付の図面を参照した実施の形態についての説明を通じて明らかに示される。

Photolithography)工程の露光工程でレンズ間の重畳、レンズ収差等によって主に発生される。具体的に言うと、フォトレジストの露光量の差異によって、1つの平板表示パネルの表示面上で薄膜トランジスタ(Thin film transistor)のゲート−ドレイン(または、ソース)間の寄生容量の偏差、セルギャップを保持するためのカラムスペーサの高さの偏差、信号配線と画素電極との寄生容量の偏差等が存在するようになり、その結果、正常的な輝度に示される正常表示面に比べ、ブロック、帯、点または不定形の面状に輝度の低いまたは高い表示むらが表れる。表示むらは、正常表示面と異なる輝度に表れる面、または正常表示面と境界を成して、漸進的な傾度に輝度が変化される境界部を含む。このような表示むらの輝度は、一般的に正常表示面の輝度よりも低いか高いので、第2変調部2は表示むらに示されるデジタルビデオデータODC(RGB)に第2補償値を加算または減算して、表示むらの輝度を正常表示面と類似する輝度に補償する。

一方、前述の実施の形態1〜3で説明したメモリ3、23、164は、互いに異なる変調部に共通的に接続され、かつ4ピン(pin)、6ピンまたは30ピンのユーザコネクタを通じてローム記録器(Rom writer)に接続され得る。また、ローム記録器は、ユーザインタフェースを有するコンピュータに接続され得る。従って、メモリ3、23、164に格納される補償値と位置情報は、パネル特性の差異、製造工程の差異によって修正が必要な場合、ローム記録器とユーザコネクタを通じて供給されるユーザデータによって修正され得る。

Claims (2)
- 液晶表示パネルの明暗比を調整するために、前記液晶パネルに示されるデジタルビデオデータの輝度を分析し、前記輝度の分析結果に基づいて、予め格納された第1補償値を用いて、前記デジタルビデオデータを1次変調する第1変調器;及び
前記液晶表示パネルの応答特性を調整するために、予め格納された第2補償値を用いて、前記1次変調されたデジタルビデオデータを2次変調する第2変調器;
同一の階調を前記液晶表示パネルに示す際に、正常表示面に比べて輝度が異なるように映される不良表示領域に示される前記2次変調されたデジタルビデオデータを、予め格納された第3補償値を用いて3次変調する第3変調器
を備え、
前記第3変調器は、
前記正常表示面に比べて暗く映される第1不良表示領域に示されるデジタルビデオデータに前記第3補償値を加算し;
前記正常表示面に比べて明るく映される第2不良表示領域に示されるデジタルビデオデータに前記第3補償値を減算し、
前記不良表示領域のデジタルビデオデータを前記3次変調する以前に、前記明暗比の調整のための前記1次変調及び前記応答特性の調整のための前記2次変調を行うことを特徴とする平板表示装置。 - 液晶表示パネルの明暗比を調整するために、前記液晶パネルに示されるデジタルビデオデータの輝度を分析し、前記輝度の分析結果に基づいて、予め格納された第1補償値を用いて、前記デジタルビデオデータを1次変調する段階;
前記液晶表示パネルの応答特性を調整するために、予め格納された第2補償値を用いて、前記1次変調されたデジタルビデオデータを2次変調する段階;
同一の階調を前記液晶表示パネルに示す際に、正常表示面に比べて輝度が異なるように映される不良表示領域に示される前記2次変調されたデジタルビデオデータを、予め格納された第3補償値を用いて3次変調する段階
を含み、
前記3次変調する段階は、
前記正常表示面に比べて暗く映される第1不良表示領域に示されるデジタルビデオデータに前記第3補償値を加算し;
前記正常表示面に比べて明るく映される第2不良表示領域に示されるデジタルビデオデータに前記第3補償値を減算し、
前記不良表示領域のデジタルビデオデータを前記3次変調する以前に、前記明暗比の調整のための前記1次変調及び前記応答特性の調整のための前記2次変調を行うことを特徴とする平板表示装置のデータ多重変調方法。
