Description

本発明は、SiAlONをベースとする材料、その製造および使用に関する。
公知のSi切削材料およびSiAlON切削材料は、通常の長い連続的な切削の際に刃先で最初は極めて迅速にねずみ鋳鉄(GG)の状態で丸みを付けられ、このことは、初期磨耗と呼称される。
従って、本発明の課題は、公知の切削材料の前記欠点を排除することである。
本発明によれば、前記課題は、成分AとBとからなる材料を準備することによって解決され、この場合Aは、α/β−SiAlONを表わし、Bは、硬質材料を表わす。この場合、本発明による材料は、成分Aを70〜97体積%、特に80〜95体積%、特に有利に84〜91体積%および成分Bを3〜30体積%、特に5〜20体積%、特に有利に9〜16体積%含有する。
本発明により使用される成分Aの粗製材料混合物は、主要成分Si、AlN、他の添加剤、例えばAl、Y、Sc、希土類酸化物およびLi、Ca、Mg、Srを含有する微少量の化合物からなる。比較可能な混合物は、既にドイツ連邦共和国特許出願公開第3511734号明細書A1の記載から公知である。本発明による材料は、1800〜2000℃の温度および0.5〜5時間の最大温度での保持時間で熱処理中に上記の粗製材料混合物および添加された硬質材料から生成される。
成分Aは、α−SiAlONおよびβ−SiAlONならびに無定形または部分結晶された粒子境界相からなる。前記材料の焼結された状態で焼結体のSiAlON相は、内部で10〜90体積%、特に12〜60体積%、特に有利に15〜50体積%のα−SiAlON含量およびβ−SiAlON90〜10体積%、特に88〜40体積%、特に有利に85〜50体積%のβ−SiAlON含量からなる。α−SiAlONおよびβ−SiAlONの含量は、X線回折計による撮影につき測定される(Gazzara and Messier, J. Am. Ceram. Soc. Bull. 56 (1977)による)。
粒子境界相の含量は、10体積%未満、特に5体積%未満である。粒子境界相は、無定形であることができるが、しかし、好ましくは、部分結晶であることができる。焼結体の内部中でのAの組成は、公知であるように、製造パラメーター、例えば粉末混合物の組成、炉内での焼結条件、るつぼ材料、ガス種、温度および焼結時間によって変動されてもよい。成分Aにおいては、焼結体の表面と焼結体の内部との間には、勾配が存在していてもよく、したがって所謂耐火性表面として100%までがα−SiAlONを含有する。
成分A中での勾配は、焼結体の表面が内部または表面よりも急速に冷却され、前記表面の化学組成の点で雰囲気との反応によって変化される場合に、一定の条件下で生じうる。α−SiAlONに富んだ表面は、堅固な核を有する硬質外層を生じる。
硬質材料、成分B、としては、例えばSiC、Ti(C、N)、TiC、TiN、周期律表(PSE)の第IVb族、第Vb族およびVIb族の元素の炭化物および/または窒化物ならびに炭化スカンジウムおよび/またはオキシ炭化スカンジウムまたは記載された硬質材料からの混合物が使用されてよい。硬質材料は、熱処理中に粒子間および/または粒子内、即ちSiAlON粒子間ならびにSiAlON粒子中に堆積され、熱処理中、変化しない。従って、使用される硬質材料粒子の寸法は、他の組織成分、α−SiAlON粒子およびβ−SiAlON粒子の寸法を上廻らない。それというのも、硬質材料は、さもないと本発明による材料の機械的性質を劣化させるからである。これは、硬質材料の平均粒径が30μm未満、特に15μm未満、特に有利に5μm未満であることを意味する。硬質材料粒子は、球状粒子、小板またはホイスカーであることができ、特に好ましいのは、球状粒子である。
α−SiAlON粒子およびβ−SiAlON粒子の最大寸法は、90μm未満、特に65μm未満であり、特に有利には50μm未満である。公知の材料の場合には、通常、小さな粒径を努力して達成されるけれども、本発明による材料の場合には、通常、使用特性はあまり粒径に影響を及ぼさないことが判明した。
無定形の粒子境界相を結晶化させるための熱処理は、可能であり、むしろ、好ましい。公知であるように、製造パラメーター、例えば粉末混合物の組成、焼結条件、例えば温度、ガス組成、ガス圧力、時間経過、絶縁材料およびるつぼ材料に応じて、結晶相、特に有利にアルミニウム含有メリライトまたは二珪酸塩が生じる。
公知の材料に対する本発明による材料の利点は、1550HV10を上廻るよりいっそう高い硬度、ひいてはよりいっそう高い磨耗抵抗である。
更に、本発明による材料は、刃先の温度が上昇するような高い切削速度の場合も、よりいっそう高い熱硬度、即ちよりいっそう高い磨耗抵抗を有する。
更に、ガラス相と加工すべき未完成製品の材料との化学反応は、切削速度が高い場合であっても本質的に僅かである。
本発明による材料は、公知の磨耗を減少させる層、例えばAl、TiNまたはTiCで被覆されていてよく、このことは、耐磨耗性を上昇させる。
本発明による材料は、自体公知の方法により、例えば高効率のセラミック成分、殊にSiAlON材料の場合にも使用されるように、粉末混合、成形、焼結および研磨により製造されることができる。
焼結の場合のガス雰囲気は、不活性であり、NまたはNと別の不活性ガス、例えばArとからなる混合物であることができる。
次の表中には、本発明による材料の組成の実施例が記載されている。それぞれ高い硬度は、注目すべきである。

公知のSi切削材料およびSiAlON切削材料は、明灰色ないし暗灰黒色であるけれども、本発明による材料は、SiCの添加の際に灰緑色であり、Ti(C、N)の添加の際に灰褐色である。
本発明による材料は、切削材料としてねずみ鋳鉄の加工時に通常の長い連続的な切削の際に意外なことに公知の切削材料の欠点、初期磨耗、を示さず、可使時間が終結するまで鋭利な縁部を維持する。更に、本発明による材料が意外なことに所謂”ノッチ磨耗(Kerbverschleiss)”の場合にも有利であることが証明されることが確認された。
特に侵食性の鋳肌を有するねずみ鋳鉄を切削する場合には、これまで公知の切削材料では短時間後に深いノッチが形成される。この磨耗は、主に化学的磨耗、即ち切削工具の材料と未完成製品の材料との化学反応によって惹起される。これとは異なり、本発明による材料は、著しく長い可使時間後に初めてこの種の磨耗を示す。
2つの図面、図1および図2の記載から、本発明による材料、”新規の切削材料”の利点は、窒化ケイ素からなる材料、”参考例”、と比較して明らかである。図1においては、主要な刃での磨耗幅、”VBH”、は、切削の回数に依存して記載されている。GG15からなるフリクションディスクを送り”f=0.5mm/U”および送出し(切削深さ)”ap=2.0mm”を有する切削速度(刃に接する回転部材の周速)、”vc=1000m/分”で回転させた。
図2には、角部の磨耗幅、”VBE”、ノッチ磨耗が、鋳肌を有する合金化されたねずみ鋳鉄、GG25、の回転時に切削の回数に依存し、同様に窒化ケイ素からなる切削工具と比較して図示されている。送り”f=0.5mm/U”および送出し(切削深さ)”ap=2.0mm”を有する”vc=800m/分”の切削速度(刃に接する回転部材の周速)で回転させた。
また、切削材料としての使用と共に、別の使用分野での使用も考えることができ、この場合には、高い耐摩耗性が生じ、場合によっては、なお材料の熱的応力および化学的応力が発生する。即ち、本発明による材料をパッキンリングとして有利に使用することを考えることができるかまたは燃料ポンプおよび冷却剤ポンプ中、コンプレッサー、ターボ・スーパー・チャージャー、熱交換器および空調装置中に使用することを考えることができる。

Claims (14)

  1. α−SiAlONおよびβ−SiAlONならびに部分結晶の粒子境界相からなる成分A80〜95体積%と、球状の平均粒径5μm未満の硬質材料からなる成分B5〜20体積%とを有する材であって、
    の材料は、焼結体中で外側から内側に向かって低下しているα−SiAlON勾配を有し、焼結された表面と1550HV10を上廻る硬度を有した焼結体であり、前記焼結された表面100%までの含量でα−SiAlONを有し、
    前記硬質材料はSiCであって焼結後にそのままの状態を有し、
    前記粒子境界相は、含量が10体積%未満で、アルミニウム含有メリライトまたは二珪酸塩の結晶相を有し、
    前記焼結体は、内部で15〜50体積%のα−SiAlONと50〜85体積%のβ−SiAlONを有している材料。
  2. 粒子境界相の含量が体積%未満である、請求項記載の材料。
  3. 粒子境界相がアルミニウム含有メリライトを含有する、請求項記載の材料。
  4. α−SiAlON粒子およびβ−SiAlON粒子の最大寸法が90μm未満である、請求項記載の材料。
  5. 材料が磨耗を減少させる層で被覆されている、請求項記載の材料。
  6. 末混合、成形、焼結および研磨による、請求項記載の材料の製造法。
  7. 成分Aは熱処理中に1800〜2000℃の温度および0.5〜5時間の最大温度での保持時間で生成される、請求項記載の方法。
  8. 結は、不活性雰囲気で行なわれる、請求項記載の方法。
  9. 請求項6の製造法により製造された材料
  10. 磨耗を減少させる層が、Al 、TiNまたはTiCの少なくとも1つを有する、請求項5記載の材料
  11. 焼結、NまたはNと別の不活性ガスとからなる混合物を含有するガス雰囲気で行なわれる、請求項記載の方法。
  12. 不活性ガスがアルゴンを含有する、請求項8記載の方法
  13. α−SiAlONおよびβ−SiAlONならびに部分結晶の粒子境界相からなる成分A80〜95体積%と、球状の平均粒径30μm未満の硬質材料からなる成分B5〜20体積%とを有する材料であって、
    この材料は、焼結体中で外側から内側に向かって低下しているα−SiAlON勾配を有し、焼結された表面と1550HV10を上廻る硬度を有した焼結体であり、前記焼結された表面は100%までの含量でα−SiAlONを有し、
    前記硬質材料はSiCであって焼結後にそのままの状態を有し、
    前記粒子境界相は、含量が10体積%未満で、アルミニウム含有メリライトまたは二珪酸塩の結晶相を有し、
    前記焼結体は、内部で15〜50体積%のα−SiAlONと50〜85体積%のβ−SiAlONを有している材料
  14. 硬質材料の平均粒径15μm未満である、請求項13記載の材料
