Description
図13において、点線で示す対向電極107は、TFTから延在している画素領域においてソース電極104と重なっている。ソース電極104は画素領域に延在し、コンタクトホール部113によってスリット120を有する画素電極109に接続する。
以上説明したように、本実施例においては、光配向を用いることで、ラビング配向膜を使う場合にソース電極104周辺の段差により発生する液晶の配向乱れによる光漏れを小さく抑制することが出来るので、対向基板200のブラックマトリクス201をソース電極104に対応する領域を覆うように遮光する必要が無く、ブラックマトリクスの面積を小さくすることが出来る。したがって、画素の透過率を向上させることが出来、画面輝度を向上させることが出来る。
これによって、コンタクトホール111の内部においても、配向不良領域を形成することなく、一様な液晶配向が得られることから画像を形成するための透過領域として使用することが出来る。また、コンタクトホール領域にも電界で液晶配向の初期化をするためのスリット電極パターンが形成されていることが望ましい。
Claims (6)
- 画素領域がマトリクス状に形成されたTFT基板と、前記TFT基板に対向して配置された対向基板と、前記TFT基板と前記対向基板の間に液晶層が挟持された液晶表示装置であって、
前記画素領域には有機パッシベーション膜が形成され、前記有機パッシベーション膜の上には、対向電極が形成され、前記対向電極の上に絶縁膜が形成され、前記絶縁膜の上にスリットを有する画素電極が形成され、前記画素電極を覆って配向膜が形成され、
前記配向膜は光配向処理を受けており、
前記有機パッシベーション膜には、前記画素電極と前記TFT基板上に形成されたTFTのソース電極とを接続するためのコンタクトホールが形成され、前記コンタクトホールはコンタクト部を有する下穴と、前記下穴よりも大きい上穴と、前記下穴と前記上穴を結ぶ内壁を有しており、
前記コンタクトホールにおける前記内壁の少なくとも一部が画像を形成するための透過領域となっていることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 画素領域がマトリクス状に形成されたTFT基板と、前記TFT基板に対向して配置された対向基板と、前記TFT基板と前記対向基板の間に液晶層が挟持された液晶表示装置であって、

前記コンタクトホールにおける前記上穴の径は前記コンタクトホールに対応する部分における前記ソース電極の径よりも大きいことを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記コンタクトホールに対応する部分における前記対向基板には、ブラックマトリクスが形成されていないことを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載の液晶表示装置。
