Description
ここで、アルミニウムは、アルミン酸ナトリウム状態で水溶液に溶解される。この反応の結果として、水素ガスが発生する。
a)粉砕されたアルミニウム層が含まれた多層廃フィルムを反応器に投入し、アルミニウムを溶解させる液体で処理することにより、アルミニウム層を選択的に溶解させて分離する段階と、
b)アルミニウム層が溶解されて分離された残りの粉砕物を、比重差を用いて、比重の低いポリプロピレンとポリエチレンを主成分とする粉砕物と、比重の高いポリエステルを主成分とする粉砕物に分離する段階と、
c)比重差により分離されたポリエステルを主成分とする比重の高い粉砕物を乾燥させて反応器に投入し、有機溶媒と共に加熱することにより、それからポリプロピレンとポリエチレンを溶解させて分離する段階と、
d)前記分離物からアルミニウム成分、ポリプロピレンとポリエチレンとの混合物、およびポリエステルをそれぞれ分離回収する段階とを含む。
市中での流通過程で廃棄されるかあるいは印刷工場で廃棄される各種の包装用多層フィルムを収集して示差走査型熱分析器(DSC;Perkin Elmer DCS7)、X線回折器(Rigaku、DMAX2200)および後述の溶媒抽出方法などを用いてその成分を分析したところ、PPが45〜77%、PEが20〜40%、PETが0〜50%であり、アルミニウムは0.4〜1.4%程度であって、種類によって非常に大きい差を示した。各種の多層フィルム廃棄物の平均組成成分は、PPが約48%、PEが約29%、PETが約22%、そしてアルミニウムが約1%程度であった。Nylon6がたまに発見されたが、その平均組成成分は、約0.5%程度であって、微量であった。
アルミニウム層が含まれた、6種の包装用として印刷された多層フィルムそれぞれを3mm×3mmの四角形に切って、90℃の10%水酸化ナトリウム(NaOH)水溶液でアルミニウム層を溶解させた。アルミニウム層が全て溶解される時間を表1にまとめた。アルミニウム層が全て溶解されると、大部分2つ以上の層に分離された。多層フィルムが3つ以上の層に分離される場合は、アルカリ水溶液がアルミニウムだけでなく層間の接着成分も溶解するためであると思われる。アルミニウム層が全て溶解された後、それぞれの粉砕品を篩で分離して多数回水で洗浄した後、水に浸漬して比重約1.0の水に浮かぶ層と水に沈む層に分離した。水に浮かぶ層は大部分PPとPE層であり、水に沈む層は大部分PETであることを、示差走査型熱分析器(DSC;Perkin Elmer DSC7)で溶融温度を測定することにより確認した。それぞれの層に分離されていない粉砕品は、全体比重によって浮かぶ場合と沈む場合があった。本実施例で使用された包装用多層フィルムは、2つに大別されるが、表1の試料1、2、3のようにPET、PPおよびPE、並びにアルミニウム層から構成されたものと、表1の試料4、5、6のようにPPおよびPEとアルミニウム層から構成されたものがあった。PET層が含まれた多層フィルムのアルミニウム溶解時間が、PET層のない多層フィルムより短い傾向があった。
いろいろの包装用多層フィルムが混合された廃棄物を粉砕して90℃の10%水酸化ナトリウム(NaOH)水溶液でアルミニウム層を30分間溶解した。粉砕物をNaOH水溶液から分離した後、粉砕物の表面に付いているNaOH水溶液が中性(pH7)になるまで水で洗浄した。アルミニウム層が完全に溶解された粉砕物は大部分2つ以上のフィルムに分けられることが分かった。
前記実施例2でアルミニウム層が溶解された多層フィルム粉砕物を比重1.2の塩水で比重差分離工程を行った。この塩水に浮かぶ層と沈む層は、それぞれ約95%と5%であった。この2層をそれぞれ水で洗浄して塩成分を除去した後、乾燥させてメッシュ網で包んだ。その後、130℃のキシレンで約30分間溶解抽出して重量の変化を測定することにより、PEとPPの混合物、PETの分率を計算して表3にまとめた。PEとPPは両方とも130℃のキシレンに溶解され、PETは溶解されない。表3を表2と比較すると、比重1.2の塩水に沈む粉砕物のPET分率が比重1.0の水に沈む粉砕物より高いことが分かる。
前記実施例2で水に浮かぶ粉砕物を乾燥させた後、一軸スクリュー押し出し器を用いて押し出した。スクリューとダイ間のブレーカープレートに30メッシュと60メッシュの2枚のメッシュ網を重ねて装着して押し出した。押し出し器の温度は位置によって異なるが、180〜220℃の範囲で押し出した。押し出されたプラスチックストランドを冷たい水に浸漬させた後、一定の寸法に切ってペレットに加工した。作られたペレットを乾燥させた後、シート状に圧縮成形し、その後DSCを用いて溶融点と溶融熱を測定して構成成分を分析した結果を表4にまとめた。押し出されたプラスチックは、99%以上がPPとPEであり、1%未満がPETであった。押し出し前の粉砕物のPET分率は4%であったが、押し出されたストランドのPET分率は1%未満であった。すなわち、水に浮かぶ粉砕物に含まれているPETフィルムの75%程度は、ブレーカープレートに装着されたメッシュ網にかかり、残りの25%程度はメッシュ網を通過したものと分析される。
Claims (8)
- ポリプロピレン、ポリエチレンおよびポリエステルを含むプラスチック層およびアルミニウム層を含む多層廃フィルム再生方法であって、
a)粉砕されたアルミニウム層が含まれた多層廃フィルムを反応器に投入し、アルミニウムを溶解させる液体で処理することにより、アルミニウム層を選択的に溶解させて分離する段階と、
b)アルミニウム層が溶解されて分離された残りの粉砕物を、比重差を用いて、比重の低いポリプロピレンとポリエチレンを主成分とする粉砕物層と、比重の高いポリエステルを主成分とする粉砕物層に分離する段階と、
前記b)段階の以後に、
c)比重差により分離されたポリエステルを主成分とする粉砕物を乾燥させて反応器に投入し、有機溶媒と共に加熱することにより、それからポリプロピレンとポリエチレンを溶解させて分離する段階と、
d)前記分離物等からアルミニウム成分、ポリプロピレンとポリエチレンとの混合物、およびポリエステルをそれぞれ回収する段階とを含む、多層廃フィルムの再生方法。 - 前記a)段階でアルミニウム層を溶解させるために、アルカリ水溶液として、NaOH水溶液、KOH水溶液、Ca(OH)2 水溶液およびLiOH水溶液よりなる群から選ばれた1種以上の水溶液を使用する、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 比重差分離を比重0.97以上、1.33未満の液体で行う、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 比重差により分離されたポリプロピレンとポリエチレン層を主成分とする比重の低い粉砕物を乾燥させて内部最高温度220℃以下の押し出し器で加工するが、スクリューとダイ間のブレーカープレートにスクリーンを装着しまたは連続式スクリーンチェンジャーを設置することにより、溶融されていないPETフィルムなどをスクリーンで濾別すると同時にポリエチレンとポリプロピレンをペレットまたは押し出し成形品に加工する、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記有機溶媒は、キシレンやトルエンなどの炭化水素、ハロゲン化炭化水素、エステル類、ケトン類の単独またはこれらの混合物よりなる群から選ばれる、請求項1に記載の方法。
- ポリエステルを主成分とする比重の高い粉砕物からポリプロピレンとポリエチレンを分離する段階では、前記粉砕物を有機溶媒と共に70℃〜95℃で加熱してポリエチレンを溶解させて分離し、残りの粉砕物を連続的に100℃ないし沸騰点の有機溶媒で処理してポリプロピレンを溶解させ、溶解されないPETフィルム層と分離するかあるいは前記粉砕物を有機溶媒と共に100℃ないし沸騰点で加熱し、ポリエチレンとポリプロピレンを同時に溶解させてポリエステルフィルム層から分離する、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記有機溶媒がキシレンである、請求項6に記載の方法。
- 前記a)段階で、アルミニウムとアルカリとが反応して生成された水素を捕集する段階をさらに含むことを特徴とする、請求項2に記載の方法。
