Description
プラズマ表示装置の電源供給装置は、リセット期間、アドレス期間及び維持期間で電極を駆動するための高電圧を駆動回路に供給し、映像処理部、ファン、オーディオ部、制御回路部などに低電圧を供給する。
図1は、本発明の実施形態によるプラズマ表示装置を示す図面である。
図1に示すように、本発明の実施形態によるプラズマ表示装置は、プラズマ表示パネル100、制御部200、アドレス電極駆動部300、走査電極駆動部400、維持電極駆動部500、温度感知部600及び電源供給部700を含む。
走査電極駆動部400は、制御部200から走査電極駆動制御信号を受信して走査電極に駆動電圧を印加する。
維持電極駆動部500は、制御部200から維持電極駆動制御信号を受信して維持電極に駆動電圧を印加する。
温度感知部600は、プラズマ表示パネル100またはプラズマ表示パネル100の周辺温度を測定して、測定した温度を示す信号を制御部200に伝達する。
次に、プラズマ表示装置の駆動波形について、図2を参照して詳細に説明する。以下では便宜上、一つのセルを形成する走査電極(以下、“Y電極”という)、維持電極(以下、“X電極”という)及びアドレス電極(以下、“A電極”という)に印加される駆動波形についてのみ説明する。
図2に示すように、リセット期間の上昇期間ではX電極を0Vに維持した状態でY電極の電圧をVs電圧からVset電圧まで漸進的に増加させる。図2では、Y電極の電圧がランプ形態に増加すると示した。その後、Y電極の電圧が増加する間にY電極とX電極との間及びY電極とA電極との間で微弱な放電(以下、“弱放電”という)が起こりながら、Y電極には(−)壁電荷が形成され、X及びA電極には(+)壁電荷が形成される。そして電極の電圧が図2のように漸進的に変わる場合には、セルに微弱な放電が起こりながら、外部から印加された電圧とセルの壁電圧の合計が放電開始電圧状態を維持するように壁電荷が形成される。このような原理については、ウェバー(weber)の米国登録特許第5,745,086に開示されている。リセット期間では全てのセルの状態を初期化しなければならないので、Vset電圧は全ての条件のセルで放電が起こり得る程度の高い電圧である。また、Vs電圧は、一般に維持期間でY電極に印加される電圧のうちの高い電圧であり、Y電極とX電極との間の放電開始電圧より低い電圧である。
図3に示すように、本発明の実施形態によるプラズマ表示装置の電源供給部700は、電圧供給部710、電圧出力部720、電圧部730、フィードバック回路部740及びフィードバック制御部750を含み、プラズマ表示パネル100の温度またはプラズマ表示パネル100の周辺温度によってプラズマ表示パネル100の駆動に必要な駆動電源の出力電圧を変更させる。
一般に、トランスフォーマーの1次コイルL1でトランジスタQswがオンオフされる時間によって電圧出力部720から出力される電圧Voutが決められる。つまり、フィードバック制御部740からゲートドライバーに伝達される信号のデューティ比を決め、決められたデューティ比によってトランジスタQswのドレーン-ソースの間に流れる電流量が決められる。そして決められた電流値に対応する電圧が電圧出力部720に伝達される。その後、電圧出力部720はトランスフォーマーの1次コイルL2から伝達された電圧に対応する電圧を駆動部300、400、500に出力する。

Claims (5)
- 並列に交互に配置された複数の第1電極及び複数の第2電極および、それらの電極に交差する複数の第3電極を含み、前記第1電極ないし前記第3電極の交差地点に放電セルが形成されるプラズマ表示パネルと、
前記プラズマ表示パネルを駆動するアドレス電極駆動部、走査電極駆動部及び維持電極駆動部と、
前記プラズマ表示パネルの温度を感知する温度感知部と、
第1電圧を前記走査電極駆動部に出力する電源供給部であって、出力端と基準電圧との間に直列に連結される複数の第1抵抗を有し、前記複数の第1抵抗のうちの少なくとも一つの抵抗の大きさは、前記温度感知部によって感知された温度によって可変され、前記複数の第1抵抗によって分圧されるノード(N1)の電圧をフィードバックすることにより前記ノード(N1)の電圧が所定の電圧値となるように前記出力電圧を調節する前記電源供給部とを含み、
入力される映像信号に応じて一つのフレームを各々リセット期間、アドレス期間及び維持期間を含む複数のサブフィールドに分割して駆動し、
前記走査電極駆動部は前記アドレス期間で前記複数の第1電極に順次に前記第1電圧を印加し、
前記温度が高くなるにつれて前記少なくとも一つの抵抗の大きさを減少させ、前記少なくとも一つの抵抗は、前記ノード(N1)と前記基準電圧との間に配置されている、ことを特徴とするプラズマ表示装置。 - 前記電源供給部は、前記プラズマ表示パネルの温度を第1温度における前記第1電圧を前記第1温度より低い第2温度における前記第1電圧より高くすることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のプラズマ表示装置。
- 前記電源供給部は、
入力電源に電気的に連結される1次側コイルと出力端に電気的に連結される2次側コイルを含むトランスフォーマーと、
前記トランスフォーマーの1次側コイルに電気的に連結されてデューティ比によって前記出力端に出力される電圧を決める第1スイッチと、
前記プラズマ表示パネルの温度に応答して前記少なくとも一つの第1抵抗の大きさを決める可変抵抗制御部と、
前記複数の第1抵抗によって分圧される電圧に応答してフィードバック電圧を決めるフィードバック回路部と、
前記フィードバック電圧に応答して前記第1スイッチのデューティ比を決めるフィードバック制御部と
を含むことを特徴とする請求項1または2のうちのいずれか一つに記載のプラズマ表示装置。 - 前記少なくとも一つの第1抵抗はデジタルポテンショメーターであり、
前記可変抵抗制御部は、ビット制御信号で前記デジタルポテンショメーターの各ビットを制御し抵抗の大きさを変更することを特徴とする請求項3に記載のプラズマ表示装置。 - 前記少なくとも一つの第1抵抗は、並列に連結される複数の第2抵抗を含み、前記複数の第2抵抗のうちの少なくとも一つの第2抵抗は、デジタルポテンショメーターであり、
前記可変抵抗制御部は、ビット制御信号で前記デジタルポテンショメーターの各ビットを制御して抵抗の大きさを変更することを特徴とする請求項3記載のプラズマ表示装置。
