Description
本出願は、同日にされた2つの関連出願のうちの一方である。他方の出願は、Ann L. McCormack及びRichard L. Shickを発明者とし、発明の名称を「Latently Dispersible Barrier Composite Material」(Attorny Docket No.16530)とするものであり、これは引用によりここに組み入れられる。
本明細書で用いられるとき、文脈によって異なる意味を必要としない限り、以下の用語は以下の意味を有する。
本明細書及び特許請求の範囲で用いられるとき、「含む」という用語は、包括的すなわち幅広い解釈が可能なものであり、付加的な列挙されない要素、構成成分、又は方法の工程を除外するものではない。
本明細書で用いられるとき、「生分解性」という用語は、材料が、細菌、菌類及び藻類などの天然微生物の働きにより分解することを意味する。
本明細書で用いられるとき、「水感受性」という用語は、水と接触すると、例えば分解又は溶解などによって完全性を損なうが、所望の用途については有効な強度を維持する構造又は層を意味する。
本明細書で用いられるとき、「水溶性」という用語は、均質な溶液として水に溶解することを意味する。
引張り:本明細書で用いられるとき、乾燥CD引張り強度は、サンプルを機械横方向に引っ張って破断するときのサンプル幅当たりの最大荷重値を表す。サンプルは乾燥している必要があり、試験前に少なくとも4時間の間、73.4±3.6°F、相対湿度50±5%で調整した。サンプルは、機械横方向(CD)の向きに、幅3インチ×長さ6インチのストリップに切断することにより準備する。引張り強度の測定に用いられる装置は、MTS Systems社のSynergie100である。データ収集ソフトウェアは、MTS TestWorks(登録商標)3.10(ノースカロライナ州リサーチ・トライアングル・パークのMTS Systems社)である。ロードセルは、試験されているサンプルの強度により、最大50ニュートンか又は最大100ニュートンのどちらかから選択され、その結果、大部分の最大荷重値値は、該ロードセルの最大測定限界値の10〜90%の間に入る。ジョー間のゲージ長は、4±0.04インチである。ジョーは空気作用を用いて作動され、ゴムで被覆されている。把持面の最小幅は3インチで、ジョーの把持面のおよその高さは1.0インチである。クロスヘッド速度は、10±0.4インチ/分である。サンプルを、垂直方向と水平方向の両方に中心を合わせて、装置のジョーに置く。次いで、試験を開始し、試料が破断したとき終了する。最大荷重値は、試料の「CD乾燥引張り強度」として記録される。製品の各々について5つの標本試料を試験し、5つの試料の個々の試験すべての算術平均を、該製品のCD引張り強度とする。
容器水洗投棄試験を利用して、該容器が水洗投棄可能かどうかを判断する。試験は、トイレと、家庭の下水主タンク又は汚水処理タンクの上流側の配管構成部品を模擬した横向き配管システムとを用いる。試験の目的は、容器がトイレで水洗投棄可能であり、配管システムを詰まらせずに通過するかどうかを明らかにすることである。
器材:
1.便器用ライナなどの試験容器
2.0.9%生理食塩水(1試験当たり300ml)
3.トイレットペーパー(市販の標準等級のものを1試験当たり10シート)
4.最小ボールパス径が2インチの1.6ガロン標準水洗トイレ(ANSI AI12.19.2、1973)
5.1フィート当たり1/4インチの「落差」をもち、7つのL字継手(90°)を含む約45フィートの矩形配列に形成された4インチの透明プラスチック管からなる、「横向き配管システム」を形成する配管システム。続いて、同じ「落差」をもち、3つのL字継手(90°)及びU字管を備えて形成される31フィートの付加部分。横向き配管システムにおいて、管は、矩形の階段吹き抜けの複数の階段同様に、矩形パターンに屈曲する。横向き配管システムは、トイレから90°L字継手までの短い垂直区画、次いで4フィートの行程に続いて90°L字継手、次いで3フィートの配管行程、別の90°L字継手、10フィートの行程、90°L字継手、3フィートの行程、90°L字継手、10フィートの行程、90°L字継手、3フィートの行程、90°L字継手、最後に10フィートの行程により、形成する。残りの配管は、容器を、以下で論じられる模擬下水管装置に案内するのに用いる。横向き配管システムの後には、代替的な配管を用いることができる。
手順:
1.生理食塩水300mlを便器用ライナ内に注ぐ
2.トイレットペーパー10枚を便器用ライナ内に置く
3.満たされた便器用ライナを1.6ガロンのトイレ内に落下させる
4.便器用ライナが便器の底に沈むまでの時間を約10秒間確保する
5.トイレの水を流す
6.便器用ライナが横向き配管システムを通過し、詰まりが発生しないことを観察する
通過基準:
容器すなわち便器用ライナは、該容器が、10回のうち9回は、2又はそれより少ない水洗回数で流れる場合、水洗投棄可能であるとみなす。容器は、また、横向き配管システムを詰まらせることなく通過する必要がある。容器は、横向き配管システムを2回の水洗のみで通過する必要はないが、該横向きシステムの下流へ連続的に移動し、最終的に出口に到達するべきである。
試験は、通常は道路の下に埋設され、複数の住宅に引き込まれるもののような下水管内の流れ条件を模擬するように用いる。このような配管網は、1秒あたり約2フィート又はそれより大きい下水流量を有するように設計される。試験の目的は、下水管網を通って移動する結果として下水処理施設に到達する前の、容器すなわち便器用ライナの分散の程度を明らかにすることである。処理施設の効率的な運転にとって、分散性容器の存在は重要である。容器は、下水管網を通って処理施設まで移動するのに、約90分又はそれより長くかかるであろうと推定される。90分は、住宅から処理施設までの最低移動時間であると考えられる。
器材:
1.便器用ライナなどの試験容器
2.容器水洗投棄試験と同様、1.6ガロンの水洗トイレ及び横向き配管システム
3.模擬下水管装置:約6フィートの外径を有する円形トラフ、約6インチの深さの水を維持した約6インチ幅のトラフ、及び水を約2ft/secで循環させるポンプ
4.定規
手順:
1.試験容器の当初の面積又は質量を記録する
2.模擬下水管装置に6インチの深さまで水を入れる
3.模擬下水管装置内の水の循環を開始する
4.標準的な配管構成部品を用いることにより、横向き配管システムの出口が、容器を確実に模擬下水管装置内に堆積させるようにする
5.便器用ライナなどの容器を1.6ガロンのトイレ内に落下させる(生理食塩水及びトイレット・ティッシュを含む)
6.トイレの水を流し、便器用ライナが横向き配管システムを通過して付加配管及び模擬下水管装置の中へ入ることを観察する
7.容器を90分間循環させる
8.水の循環を止める
9.眼に見えるか又は浮かんでいる、容器の分解していない断片を除去する。断片が損傷しないように注意して、付着しないように互いに離しておく
10.スクリーンを通して水を排出し、残りの断片をすべて捕捉する
11.容器の残りの断片を模擬下水管装置から除去する
12.容器の断片をほぐす(乾燥は任意である)
13.収集した容器の部分の質量を測定する。これは、断片を乾燥させて重量を量るか、又は、収集した断片の面積と材料の坪量とに基づいて質量を計算するか、どちらかによって行うことができる。通常は、容器の残りの断片は、容器が図1に示される複合材で形成されるときはPLAであるが他の材料である可能性がある、障壁層の部分である。残っている当初の容器質量の百分率を計算する。
14.循環輸送試験機を清掃する
身体排出物を収容するが、便器から移動させてトイレの水で流すことができる便器用ライナの所望の実施は、非透過性の基材を使用するものである。本発明の一実施形態において、非浸透性の基材から形成される便器用ライナは、一方向の液体の流れに対しては障壁となるが、その反対方向の液体の流れ又は液体の接触により容易に分散可能となる。
ここで図2を参照すると、身体排出物のための容器を形成する便器用ライナ20は、図1に示される複合材から構成される。便器用ライナは、図1に示される複合材に加えて、他の適切な材料で構成することができる。好ましくは、このような材料は、便器用ライナをトイレで水で流すことにより廃棄することができるように、水分散性である。典型的な便器において排出物容器として機能する便器用ライナ20は、円筒容器21内に置かれた状態で示され、断面図として描かれている。
説明された組成物は、ポリマーフィルムに形成してもよい。あるいは、スパンボンド・ウェブ、空気堆積ウェブ、ボンデッド・カーデッド・ウェブ、及びメルトブロー・ウェブなどの不織ウェブを、障壁となる水感受性で非伸張性の成分としての上記基準を満たすように形成してもよい。特に、メルトブローPLA繊維の障壁層及びメルトブローPVOH繊維の水感受性層が、本発明による使用のために考慮される。
本発明の便器用ライナを形成するのに有用な複合材を、以下の手順を用いて生成した。すなわち、PLA(Cargill−Dow社の6200PLA)の1.5ミクロンの障壁層と、PVOH(DuPont社のEvanol40-05)の18.8ミクロンの水感受性層とを、単一スクリュー押出し成形機を用い、溶融温度をPVOH含有層については約280から380°Fまで、PLA層については約300から385°Fまでの範囲として、20.3ミクロンの厚みの2層キャストフィルムとして共押出し成形した。この2層フィルムは、湿潤強度添加剤を用いていない水分散性のティッシュ(City Forest Grade 4089)を含む、13gsmの低伸張性の(MDの伸張度が12.5%、MDの最大勾配が20.8)ティッシュ層をPVOH層に接触させて、約274fpm(1.39m/sec)の速度で直接共押出し成形した。
PLA障壁層の厚みを1.3ミクロンに減少させ、水感受性層を、24.1ミクロンの厚みを有する、PVAと改質EVA(DuPont社のBynel 3860)との80%/20%配合物としたこと以外は、実施例1を繰り返した。
共押出し成形フィルムを反転させて、PLA層をティッシュ層に接するようにしたこと以外は、実施例1を繰り返した。
比較例2
共押出し成形フィルムのPLA層の厚みを1.9ミクロンとし、水感受性層を、PVOH(日本のNK05)80%と無水物化されたEVA(DuPont社のBynel 3860)20%との配合物としたこと以外は、実施例1を繰り返した。さらに、ティッシュ層を、高伸張性(MDの伸張度が21%、MDの最大勾配が3.4)で水分散性の13gsmのティッシュ(Sam’s Club社のアウトレット店からMember’s Markブランドのトイレット・ティッシュとして入手可能)とした。
比較例3
共押出し成形フィルムを、2.0ミクロンの厚みのPLAの層と18.3ミクロンの厚みのPVOH層とで作成したこと以外は、実施例1を繰り返した。
上の例の引張り試験、水頭圧試験及び分散性試験を実施して、以下の結果を得た。

**当初の障壁層の質量を基準とする
実施例1の水頭圧試験(1試験)を除いて、引張りの結果は5つの試験の平均に基づいた。
比較例1の障壁層及び水感受性層は、実質的に損傷を受けていない状態のままであった。
示されるように、本発明の便器用ライナは、強度特性、水頭圧特性及び分散性特性の特有の組み合わせをもたらす。ティッシュ上に直接溶融押出し成形された障壁層をもつ比較例1は、該ティッシュを補強し、該ティッシュが分散することを防止する結果となった。「柔らかい」ティッシュの特性を示す伸張性の支持ティッシュを用いる比較例2は、脆弱な障壁層に亀裂を入れて機能しなくさせ、その結果、十分な水頭圧特性を与えなかった。厚い障壁層をもつ比較例3は、十分に分散しなかった。
説明のために与えられた上記の詳細な説明は、特許請求の範囲及びその全ての均等物により定義される本発明の範囲を限定するものと解釈されるべきではないことが認識されるであろう。
Claims (8)
- 互いに接合されて、開口を有する上端と、底部と、1対の対向する側部とを形成し、前記上端が前記底部より大きい第1及び第2の対向する部材、
水不溶性組成物の低強度障壁層により特徴付けられる内部表面、
水透過性で、非伸張性、分散性の支持層により特徴付けられる外部表面、及び、
前記障壁層と前記支持層との間に配置された水感受性層、
を含み、
前記3つの層が相互結合されて複合材を形成し、該複合材が、前記内部表面上の水の接触に対しては障壁として機能し、前記外部表面への水の接触で分散することを特徴とする便器用ライナ。 - 外部の前記支持層が、水洗投棄中に前記水感受性層をトイレ表面との接触から隔離して、該水感受性層の部分的に飽和した部分が該トイレ表面に貼り付くことを防止することを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の便器用ライナ。
- 前記障壁層が、2ミクロンより薄い厚みを有するフィルムからなることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の便器用ライナ。
- 前記障壁層がポリ乳酸からなることを特徴とする、請求項3に記載の便器用ライナ。
- 前記水感受性層がポリビニル・アルコールからなることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の便器用ライナ。
- 前記支持層がティッシュ層からなることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の便器用ライナ。
- 前記複合材が少なくとも15mbarの水頭圧を有することを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の便器用ライナ。
- 前記複合材が約1000gのCD湿潤引張り最大荷重値を有することを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の便器用ライナ。
