Claims (6)
- 自発光型のEL(Electro Luminescence)素子を利用した画像表示装置であって:
マトリックス形態に配列された複数の画素と,前記各画素に対応して独立に形成された複数の正極と,前記複数の正極に対応しかつ共通に接続された負極と,前記正極と負極との間に設けられ発光層を有する複数のEL素子と,前記各画素に対応し,一端を電源に他端を前記複数の正極に接続して前記複数のEL素子への電流供給を制御する複数の薄膜トランジスタとで構成され,表示動作を行う表示パネルと;
前記表示パネル上の横方向の画素で表される各画素ラインを順次に選択するためのスキャンドライバーと;
前記画素ラインが選択される毎に,当該画素ラインに対応するRGB表示信号を印加するデータドライバーと;
前記表示パネルの共通の負極からフィードバックされた電流値と外部から入力されたRGBデータとを用い,前記RGBデータのホワイト階調レベルを補正したRGB表示信号を生成し,前記生成されたRGB表示信号を前記データドライバーに提供する表示制御部と;
を含み,
前記表示制御部は,フィードバックされた電流によって当該画面の発光量を判断し,その発光量に基いて画面別発光量偏差を減少させるための輝度調節用基準信号を生成し,前記輝度調節用基準信号に応じてRGBデータのホワイト階調レベルを調節し,
このことによって画像表示の明るさが調節されることを特徴とする,画像表示装置。 - 前記表示制御部は,
前記表示パネルの負極からフィードバックされた電流の大きさに対応する電圧を出力する電流電圧変換部と;
前記電流電圧変換部から入力された電圧の大きさによって画面の全体的な発光量を認識し,その発光量に対応する輝度調節用基準信号を生成し,出力する演算制御部と;
前記演算制御部から入力された輝度調節用基準信号を増幅させて,RGBの各カラー別にホワイト階調レベルを調節するためのホワイト階調レベル調節用信号を生成し,出力するデータ電圧比調節部と;
前記データ電圧比調節部から入力されたホワイト階調レベル調節用信号によって本増幅部の駆動電圧が調節され,外部から入力された前記RGBデータのホワイト階調レベル変動幅を調節してRGB表示信号を生成し,出力するデータ電圧増幅部と;
を含むことを特徴とする,請求項1に記載の画像表示装置。 - 前記表示パネルの負極からフィードバックされる電流は,前記各画素の正極から共通負極に流れる電流の総和であることを特徴とする,請求項1または2に記載の画像表示装置。
- 前記演算制御部は,画面の発光量が所定の基準値より大きい場合には,輝度が低くなるように制御するための輝度調節用基準信号を生成し,画面の発光量が所定の基準値より小さい場合には,輝度が高くなるように制御するための輝度調節用基準信号を生成することを特徴とする,請求項2に記載の画像表示装置。
- 前記データ電圧比調節部は3個の演算増幅器で構成され,前記各演算増幅器は,R,G,Bの3つのカラーの輝度調節用基準信号を各々処理することを特徴とする,請求項2に記載の画像表示装置。
- 前記データ電圧増幅部は3個の演算増幅器で構成され,前記各演算増幅器は,R,G,Bの3つのカラーのRGBデータのいずれかと前記R,G,Bに対応した輝度調節用基準信号とが対になって入力されることを特徴とする,請求項2に記載の画像表示装置。
