Description
【発明の属する技術分野】
本発明は伝送線路技術に係り、特に、同一の配線パターンで周波数帯域を可変できる伝送線路およびその伝送線路を半導体レーザもしくは光変調器への電気信号供給線路に用いた光モジュールに関する。

【従来の技術】
光通信分野においては、高度情報化に伴い送受信データが年々高ビットレート化する傾向にある。光変調器を用いて光信号を伝送させるレーザモジュールに関しても、高ビットレート光信号を送信側から受信側へ誤りなく伝達するためには、光変調器に電気信号を伝える高周波伝送線路の高周波特性を良好にすることが必須の課題となっている。例えば、変調器集積レーザダイオードを含むパッケージ内において、終端抵抗と光変調器を並列に結合し、一方を接地し、他方をこの並列結合に直列にワイヤインダクタンスとインピーダンス整合用抵抗を結合し、このインピーダンス整合用抵抗の他端に高周波伝送線路を結合することによって広帯域化を図っている(例えば、特許文献1参照)。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
高ビットレート光伝送モジュールの主力製品としては2.5Gbit/sおよび10Gbit/sが挙げられる。これらのモジュールに用いられる信号配線に要求される通過帯域を図18に示す。
図18は、光モジュールの通過特性を示す特性図であり、横軸に周波数(GHz)を示し、縦軸に通過特性(S21)を示す。図において、曲線97は10Gbit/sの光モジュールに求められる通過特性(S21)であり、その3dBカットオフ周波数は10GHz以上を必要とする。一方、曲線96は2.5G光モジュールに必要とされる通過特性で、3dBカットオフ周波数は6〜8GHzあれば充分である。10G光モジュール対応した高周波領域における通過特性が良好な伝送線路を2.5G光モジュールに適用すると、不必要な高周波成分も通過させてしまい、例えばドライバICで入力信号にリンギングが発生した場合、これを光出力信号に伝えてしまい、その結果光出力波形の劣化を招きビットエラーレートが増大する恐れがある。従って、ビットエラーレートが異なる光モジュールは、ビットエラーレート以外の仕様が同一であっても伝送線路の設計仕様を異なるものとしなければ仕様を満足できない場合がある。
従って、2.5G光モジュールと10G光モジュールの部品を共通化することによって低コスト化を図るという手段を採ることができなかった。

本発明の目的は、上記問題点を解決し、異なるビットレートの光モジュールにおいて、いかなる場合にも良好な伝送特性を実現できる伝送線路技術を提供することにある。

【課題を解決するための手段】
上記目的を達成するために、本発明は、基板の表面もしくは内部に信号配線導体とグランド配線導体を具備した高周波伝送線路において、該信号配線導体が第一の信号配線導体と第二の配線導体に分離され、かつ信号配線導体及びグランド配線導体と分離された第一の電極と第二の電極を備えた構造であって、第一の信号配線導体と第二の信配線導体とを電気的に接続するか、もしくは第一の信号配線導体と第一の電極とを電気的に接続し、第一の電極と第二の信号配線導体を電気的に接続し、第二の信号配線導体と第二の電極とを電気的に接続するかの2通りの伝送線路構造をとることができる。
なお、前記電気的に接続する手段として、Auワイヤ等の導体ワイヤ接続を用いるとなおよい。また、前記第一の電極の面積は前記第二の電極よりも小さいことが望ましい。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下、本発明の実施の形態について、幾つかの実施例を用い、図を参照して説明する。
図1は本発明による伝送線路の配線パターンの第1の実施例を示す上面図である。図2は図1の配線パターンを10Gbit/sの光モジュール用に接続した場合の伝送線路の第1の実施例を示す構成図であり、図2(a)は上面図を、図2(b)は図2(a)のA1−A2断面図を示す。図3は図1の配線パターンを2.5Gbit/sの光モジュール用に接続した場合の構成図であり、図3(a)は上面図、図3(b)は図3(a)のB1−B2断面図である。

図1に示すように、本伝送線路の配線導体は、誘電体からなる基板1の表面に形成されている。伝送線路の形態は、信号配線導体2の両側に第一、第二のグランド配線導体31、32が形成されるコプレーナ線路となっている。信号配線導体2は、その途中の断線部20において電気的に絶縁されており、第一の信号配線導体21と第二の配線導体22とに分割されている。第一、第二のグランド配線導体31、32は、これら第一、第二の信号配線導体21、22の両側に形成されている。この伝送線路近傍には、第一、第二の信号配線導体21、22や第一、第二のグランド配線導体31、32とは電気的に絶縁された第一の電極4が配置されている。また、第一、第二の信号配線導体21、22を挟んで第一の電極4が配置される箇所との反対側には、同じく第一、第二の信号配線導体21、22や第一、第二のグランド配線導体31、32と絶縁された第二の電極5が形成されている。本実施例では、第一の電極4は第二の電極5よりも面積が小さくなっている。
電気信号は、信号入力部201から入力され、伝送線路を伝搬して信号出力部202より出力されるが、図1の状態では信号配線導体2は断線されており電気信号は伝搬しない。よって、導体ワイヤを用いて電気的に接続する必要がある。本実施例では導体ワイヤとして直径25μmのAuワイヤを用いた。

まず、図2に導体ワイヤを用いた第1の接続方法を示す。これは、第一の信号配線導体21と第二の信号配線導体22とを導体ワイヤで繋ぐ形態である。本実施例では、2本の導体ワイヤ61、62を用いた。25μmの導体ワイヤ1本を用いて、信号配線導体21、22間を接続する場合、第一、第二の信号配線導体と第一、第二のグランド配線導体31、32間の電気力線と導体ワイヤと第一、第二のグランド配線導体31、32間の電気力線が大きく変わるので、2本以上が好ましい。2本より多い数の本数でも構わないが、伝送特性面や製造に要する時間等を考慮すると、2本が最も適切である。但し、75μmのリボン型(平型)の導体ワイヤを用いる場合には、1本の導体ワイヤを用いても、第一、第二の信号配線導体と第一、第二のグランド配線導体31、32間の電気力線と導体ワイヤと第一、第二のグランド配線導体31、32間の電気力線はあまり変化しないので、使用することができる。
図2(b)の断面図より明らかなように、導体ワイヤ61は、その両端部分が第一、第二の信号配線導体21、22に接続されているのみで、それ以外の部分はどの部分にも触れない形態となっている。導体ワイヤ62についても同様に構成されている。このような形態をとると、伝送線路は第一、第二の信号配線導体21、22とその両側の第一、第二のグランド配線導体31、32との間で電界を形成しながら信号を伝搬させるという一般的なコプレーナ伝送線路形状となる。この伝送線路の場合、高周波伝送特性は良好、すなわち広帯域な特性を有し、10GHz以上の高周波領域においても良好な通過特性(S21)を示すため、10Gbit/sの光モジュールに用いて好適である。

次に、導体ワイヤを用いた第2の接続方法について、図3を用いて説明する。図3(a)に示すように、まず、第一の信号配線導体21の先端付近と第一の電極4間を、導体ワイヤ71を用いて電気的に接続する。次に、第一の電極4と第二の信号配線導体22の先端付近とを同様に導体ワイヤ72で接続する。最後に、第二の電極5と第二の信号配線導体22との間を、導体ワイヤ73を用いて接続する。図3(b)に示すように、導体ワイヤ72は、その両端部分が信号配線導体22と第一の電極4とに接続されているのみで、それ以外にはどの部分にも触れていない。導体ワイヤ73についても同様に、その両端部分が信号配線導体22と第二の電極5に接続されているのみで、その他の部分は何処にも接続されていない。図示されていないが、導体ワイヤ71についても同様に構成されている。

以下、図3に示す伝送線路の等価回路について説明する。
図4は図3に示す伝送線路の等価回路の一実施例を示す回路図である。図3(a)の伝送線路は、信号線に直列にインダクタ8が挿入され、また信号線とグランドとの間にキャパシタ9が挿入された、ローパスフィルタを構成している。即ち、インダクタ8は、主に導体ワイヤ71、72によって形成され、キャパシタ9は主に、第二の電極5と第ニのグランド配線導体32間のキャパシタである。図3に示す伝送線路において、伝送線路が所望のカットオフ周波数を示すように、これらインダクタ8やキャパシタ9の値を設定することによって高周波領域の通過特性を劣化させることができるローパスフィルタを形成することができる。

実際の伝送線路では、インダクタンス8に関しては、主として導体ワイヤ71、72の長さで決まるので単位長さあたりのインダクタンスを求めワイヤの長さが適切となるよう第一の電極4の位置を調整する。キャパシタンスに関しては、第二の電極5の大きさ、第二の電極5と第二のグランド配線導体間の基板表面におけるギャップ間隔、誘電体の誘電率、第二のグランド配線導体の厚さ等により決まる。これは、単純な計算で正確な値を見積もることは困難なため、寸法を決定するためには、電磁界解析シミュレーションを行い所望のカットオフ周波数を示すことを確認する必要がある。

以下、図2、図3に示す本発明による伝送線路の電磁界解析による伝送特性の計算結果を図5に示す。
図5は図2、図3に示す伝送線路の電磁界解析による伝送特性の一実施例を示す特性図であり、図5(a)は図2に示す伝送線路の伝送特性を、図5(b)は図3に示す伝送線路の伝送特性を示す。図5(a)、図5(b)において、横軸は周波数(GHz)を示し、縦軸は反射特性(S11)及び通過特性(S21)を示す。図5(a)において、曲線56は図2に示す伝送線路の通過特性(S21)を示し、曲線57は反射特性(S11)を示す。図5(b)において、曲線58は図3に示す伝送線路の通過特性(S21)を示し、曲線59は反射特性(S11)を示す。
図6は図5のシミュレーションにおける伝送線路の各部の寸法を示す平面図であり、この寸法の基本的な伝送線路を用いて、図2及び図3に示す伝送線路を構成し図5に示す電磁界解析による伝送特性を計算した。図6は3dBカットオフ周波数が8GHzとなるように設計したものである。図において、第一の信号配線導体21と第二の信号配線導体22の間隔は0.30mmとしている。また、第一の信号配線導体21と第二の信号配線導体22の中心線から第一の電極4の一方の端部までの距離を1.17、第一の電極4の幅を0.20mm、x方向における第一の電極4の他方の端部と第一のグランド配線導体31間の間隔を0.40mm、y方向における第一の電極4の長さを0.40mm、yる方向における第一の電極4と第一のグランド配線導体31間の間隔を0.20mm、前記中心線と第二の電極5の一方の端部までのx方向の距離を0.77mm、x方向における第二の電極5の幅を0.40mm、x方向における第二の電極5の他方の端部と第二の電極5との間隔を0.30mm、y方向における第二の電極の長さを1.50mm、y方向における第二の電極5と第二のグランド配線導体32の間隔を0.20と設定した。

図5において、通過特性(S21)は図1において、端子201から入力した信号の大きさと、端子202に表れる信号の大きさの比であり、反射特性(S11)は入力端子から入力した信号の大きさと、伝送路で反射して戻ってきた信号の大きさの比である。
図5(a)の特性を見ると、通過特性(S21)は曲線56から明らかなように、10GHz以上の領域においても良好であり、3dBカットオフ周波数は20GHz以上である。また、周波数が10GHz以下において、反射特性(S11)は−10dB以下であれば十分であるが、曲線57から明らかなように、−20dB以下である。よって、このような特性を有する図2の伝送線路は十分に10Gbit/sの光モジュールに使用することができる。
一方、図5(b)は、図3に示す伝送線路の特性であり、曲線58で示すように、通過特性(S21)は徐々に減衰し、周波数が7.8GHzで−3dBとなっている。よって、実際の使用帯域2.5GHzにおいて、十分な通過特性をもっている。また、反射特性(S11)も曲線59に示すように、通過帯域2.5GHzにおいて、−10dB以下である。よって、このような特性を有する図3の伝送線路は十分に2.5Gbit/sの光モジュールに使用することができる。
以上述べたように、本実施例の伝送線路構造を用いることによって、配線パターンは同一でも導体ワイヤの接続方法を変えるのみで、伝送線路の帯域を変換することができる。

次に、図2、図3に示す伝送線路を光モジュールに適用した例を、図7〜図9を用いて説明する。
図7は本発明による光モジュール全体の一実施例を示す上面図である。図8は図2の伝送線路を用いた場合の光モジュールの伝送線路部分を示す拡大上面図であり、図9は図3の伝送線路を用いた場合の光モジュールの伝送線路部分を示す拡大上面図である。
図7に示すように、本光モジュールは、リード線101の信号入力端子102から電気信号を入力する。入力信号は、モジュールパッケージ103に組み込まれた誘電体基板104(以下、パッケージ基板という)上に形成された伝送線路105を伝搬され、誘電体基板106(以下、中継基板という)に形成された中継伝送線路107を通り、光素子108が搭載されたチップキャリア基板109上に備わる伝送線路110を通過して、光素子108に電気信号を伝える構成となっている。各線路間は、導体ワイヤ111a〜111c(図8、図9参照)によって電気的に接続されている。本実施例では、光素子108としては光変調器集積半導体レーザを用いている。本発明による伝送線路は、モジュールパッケージ103に形成された伝送線路105に具備されている。その構造は基本的に図2、図3の構造と同一である。半導体レーザ108の光変調器において入力電気信号は光信号に変換され、半導体レーザ108から出射される。この光ビームは、半導体レーザ108の前方に存在するレンズ112により集光され、その前方にある光ファイバ113に出射され光信号として出力される。

以下、図8、図9をもちいて、本光モジュールの伝送線路部分について説明する。なお、図1〜図3、図7と同じ構成要素に対しては同一の符号を付け、その説明を省略する。
図8と図9とは本発明によるパッケージ基板の伝送線路部分の導体ワイヤ接続方法が異なり、図8のパッケージ基板104aは図2と同様の伝送線路を用いており、図9のパッケージ基板104bは図3と同様の伝送線路を用いており、狭帯域となるように構成されており、伝送線路の3dBカットオフ周波数が7GHzとなるように設計されている。

図8、図9に示す光モジュールの伝送特性の電磁界解析及び回路シミュレーションによる計算結果を、図10を用いて説明する。
図10は図8、図9に示す光モジュールの電磁界解析及び回路シミュレーションによる伝送特性の一実施例を示す特性図であり、図10(a)は図8に示す伝送線路の伝送特性を、図10(b)は図9に示す伝送線路の伝送特性を示す。図10(a)、図10(b)において、横軸は周波数(GHz)を示し、縦軸は反射特性(S11)(dB)及び通過特性(S21)(dB)を示す。図10(a)において、曲線66は通過特性(S21)を、曲線67は反射特性(S11)を示す。また、図10(b)において、曲線68通過特性(S21)を、曲線69は反射特性(S11)を示す。
図10(a)に示すように、3dBカットオフ周波数は約12.7GHzで、10Gbit/s光モジュールとして、充分な伝送特性が得られているのが分かる。即ち、実際の通過帯域は略8GHzであるが、8GHzにおける通過帯域特性の減少は−1dB以下であり、また、反射特性は10GHzで−10dB以下である。よって、この特性を有する図8の光モジュールは10Gbit/sの光モジュールに適用することができる。
また、図10(b)に示すように、高周波領域での減衰が大きく、3dBカットオフ周波数は約7GHzとなっている。伝送線路のみのカットオフ周波数と異なるのは、光素子自体の減衰も含まれるためである。このような伝送特性があれば、不必要な高周波領域を通過させることがないので、入力信号のリンギング等の波形不良を光出力波形に伝えることはない。また、実際の通過帯域は略2.5GHzであるが、この周波数では通過特性は殆ど減衰していない。反射特性は、周波数が2.5GHzにおいて−10dBより少ないので、十分に特性を確保することができる。よって、この特性を有する図9の光モジュールは2.5Gbit/sの光モジュールに適用することができる。

次に、本発明による第2の実施例について図2を用いて説明する。
図11は本発明による伝送線路の配線パターンの第2の実施例を示す上面図である。図12は図11の配線パターンを10Gbit/sの光モジュール用に接続した場合の伝送線路の第2の実施例を示す構成図である。図13は図11の配線パターンを2.5Gbit/sの光モジュール用に接続した場合の構成図である。
図3の実施例では、インダクタとなる第一の電極とキャパシタとなる第二の電極がそれぞれ1つ構成される形態であったが、これらインダクタンスやキャパシタンスは、複数存在しても構わない。図13に示す実施例では、インダクタを2個、キャパシタを3個構成した構造としている。

図11は第2の実施例の配線パターンを示したものである。信号配線導体は、第一の信号配線導体21、第二の信号配線導体22、第三の信号配線導体23から構成されている。第一の信号配線導体21と第二の信号配線導体22の間、第二の信号配線導体22と第三の信号配線導体23の間にはそれぞれ断線部20a、20bが設けられる。また、第一の電極群は一番目の電極であるA1電極41と、2番目の電極であるB1電極42の2つが存在する。さらに、第二の電極群は、1番目の電極であるA2電極51、2番目の電極であるB2電極52、3番目の電極であるC2電極53の3つが形成されている。

次に、導体ワイヤの第二の接続方法を図13に示す。まず、第一の信号配線導体21と第二の電極群の内のA2電極51とを導体ワイヤ83で電気的に接続する。次に、第一の信号配線導体21の先端付近と第一の電極群内のA1電極41とを導体ワイヤ84で接続する。次に、第一の電極群内のA1電極41と第二の信号配線導体22の、第一の信号配線導体21に隣接する側の先端付近とを導体ワイヤ85で接続する。次に、第二の信号配線導体22と第二の電極群内のA2電極52とを導体ワイヤ86で接続する。次に、第二の信号配線導体22の第三の信号配線導体23に隣接する先端付近と、第一の電極群内のB1電極42とを導体ワイヤ87で接続する。次に、第一の電極群内のB1電極42と第三の信号配線導体23の第二の信号配線線導体22に隣接する先端付近とを導体ワイヤ88で接続する。最後に、第三の信号配線導体23と第二の電極群内のC2電極53とを導体ワイヤ89で接続する。これら導体ワイヤ83〜89は、図1の実施例と同様に両端部以外の部分は、いかなる箇所にも接触しない形態となっている。本実施例の伝送線路は図5(a)に示す特性をもたせることができるため、10Gbit/s光モジュールに適用することができる。

図14の等価回路図において、キャパシタ91は主にA2電極51と第二のグランド配線導体32間のキャパシタである。インダクタ81は主に、導体ワイヤ84及び導体ワイヤ85のインダクタである。キャパシタ92は主に、B2電極52と第二のグランド配線電極32間のキャパシタである。インダクタ82は主に、導体ワイヤ87、88のインダクタである。キャパシタ93は主に、C2電極と第二のグランド配線電極53間のキャパシタである。本実施例の伝送線路は図5(b)に示す特性をもたせることができるため、2.5Gbit/s光モジュールに適用することができる。

図15において、パッケージ基板104cは通常の伝送線路であり、導電ワイヤによっての接続方法は変化されないし、従って、周波数特性は変化されない。中継基板106aは図16又は図17の中継基板を備えている。その他の構造は図7と同じである。

【発明の効果】
以上述べたように、本発明によれば、ビットレートの異なる光モジュールに対して、同一の配線パターン形状を持つ伝送線路を用いても、導体ワイヤの接続を変更するのみで、いずれのビットレートの光モジュールに対しても良好な伝送特性を実現することができる。よって、光モジュール間の部品を共通化することができ、光モジュールの低コスト化を実現できる。

- 誘電体基板上に、第一の信号配線導体と、前記第一の信号配線導体から絶縁されて配置された第二の信号配線導体と、前記第一の信号配線導体及び前記第二の信号配線導体の配列から見て一方の側に設けられた第一の電極と、前記第一の信号配線導体及び前記第二の信号配線導体の前記配列から見て他方の側に設けられた第二の電極と、前記第二の電極に隣接して配置されたグランド配線導体とが設けられた伝送線路であって、
第一の導体で前記第一の信号配線導体の端部と前記第一の電極とを接続し、第二の導体で前記第一の電極と前記第二の信号配線導体とを接続し、第三の導体で前記第二の信号配線導体と前記第二の電極とを接続し、前記第一の導体と前記第二の導体でインダクタを構成し、前記第三の導体と前記グランド配線導体とでキャパシタを構成することを特徴とする伝送線路。 - 請求項1記載の伝送線路において、前記第二の電極の面積は前記第一の電極の面積より大きいことを特徴とする伝送線路。
- 請求項1記載の伝送線路において、前記第一乃至第三の導体は導体ワイヤであることを特徴とする伝送線路。
- 電気信号を伝送する伝送基板と、前記電気信号で駆動され、レーザ光を発生する光変調器とを備え、前記伝送基板の伝送線路に請求項1〜3の何れかの伝送線路を使用することを特徴とする光モジュール。
- 請求項4記載の光モジュールにおいて、前記伝送基板は前記伝送線路が用いられたパッケージ基板を含むことを特徴とする光モジュール。
- 請求項4記載の光モジュールにおいて、前記伝送基板はパッケージ基板と中継基板を含み、前記中継基板に前記伝送線路が用いられていることを特徴とする光モジュール。
