Description
1.発明の属する技術分野
本発明は、低騒音特性および高い滴点を持つグリース組成物に関する。
2.従来の技術の説明
最近の自動車および電気用品の軸受は一般的に密閉型軸受である。密閉型軸受用のグリースは、前記のような用品で使用されるグリースに強い要求がでるように、軸受の寿命期間中の潤滑性作用を備えなければならない。密閉型軸受用グリースは、軸受の長期寿命、高温性能、高い滴点、低い油分離性、耐酸化性、耐擦過摩耗性および低騒音を含む種々の性能要件を満たなければならない。
最近、リチウムコンプレックス石けん系グリースが密閉型軸受用に使用されるようになった。この種のグリースは、高温での長期使用に耐えるが、単純なリチウム石けん系グリースより概ね大きい騒音の欠点を持つ。
密閉型軸受の中で大きい騒音を出さないリチウムコンプレックス石けんを含む密閉型軸受グリースが、望ましいものである。高い使用温度に対してはグリースの滴点を向上させることも望まれる。
発明の要約
本発明は、
a)50重量%以上の潤滑基油、
b)グリースを基準として、2から30重量%までのリチウム石けんコンプレックス増粘剤、および
c)グリースを基準として、0.1から10重量%までのポリアルケニル無水コハク酸、ポリアルケニルコハク酸またはそれらの混合物、から成る、改善された騒音特性および高い滴点を持つグリース組成物に関する。
本発明のグリースは、低騒音を提供しながら長い軸受寿命と高い滴点を提供する。
発明の詳細な説明
本発明のグリース組成物の調製に当たっては、多種多様な潤滑基油を使用できる。従って、潤滑基油は調製されるグリースによって、従来から使用されている鉱油、合成炭化水素油または合成エステル油、またはそれらの混合物のいずれでもよい。一般的な用途では、40℃で約10から約200センチストークスまでの範囲の粘度を持つ油が必要とされるが、概ね、これらの潤滑基油は40℃で約5から約400センチストークスまでの範囲の粘度を持つ。グリースの調製に当たって使用される鉱物潤滑油基料は、パラフィン系、ナフテン系および混合型基油から誘導される、従来の技術で精製された基料のいずれでもよい。使用できる合成潤滑油には、テトラエチレングリコールのC13オキソ酸ジエステルのようなグリコールエステル、またはセバシン酸1モルとテトラエチレングリコール2モルと2−エチルヘキサン酸2モルから生成されるもののような複合エステルが挙げられる。使用できる別の合成油には、ポリアルファオレフィンのような合成炭化水素;アルキルベンゼン、例えばテトラプロピレン、によるか、またはエチレンとプロピレンとのコポリマーによるベンゼンのアルキル化からのアルキレート塔底油;シリコーン油、例えばエチルフェニルポリシロキサン、メチルポリシロキサン、等;ポリグリコール油、例えばブチルアルコールをプロピレンオキシドで縮合して得られるポリグリコール油;炭酸エステル、例えばC8オキソアルコールを炭酸エチルエステルと反応させて半エステルを生成し引き続きこの半エステルをテトラエチレングリコールと反応させた生成物、等が挙げられる。他の適当な合成油には、ポリフェニルエーテルが挙げられ、例えば約3から7個までのエーテル結合と約4から8個までのフェニル基を持つポリフェニルエーテルがある。グリースの中の潤滑油の量も広く変更できるが、一般的には、グリースの約50重量%から約98重量%、好ましくは約75重量%から約95重量%までの範囲である。
本グリース組成物は、グリースを形成するために潤滑基油中に分散される増粘剤(増稠性)を含む。好ましい増粘剤は、C12ないしC24のヒドロキシ脂肪酸のリチウム石けんと、C2ないしC12の脂肪酸または環状脂肪酸ジカルボン酸のリチウム塩、またはヒドロキシル基が6個以下の炭素原子によってカルボキシル基から離されているC3ないしC14のヒドロキシカルボン酸のリチウム塩、それらの混合物である第2のリチウム塩化合物とを含むリチウム石けんコンプレックス増粘剤である。ホウ酸のリチウム塩を第3の増粘剤成分として添加してもよい。好ましいヒドロキシ脂肪酸には、ヒドロキシステアリン酸、ヒドロキシリシノレイン酸、ヒドロキシベヘン酸およびヒドロキシパルミチン酸が挙げられる。特に好ましいのは、12−ヒドロキシスレアリン酸である。第2のリチウム塩化合物は、好ましくはC6ないしC10の脂肪族ジカルボン酸、より好ましくはアゼライン酸またはセバシン酸で、特にアゼライン酸が好ましい。ヒドロキシ−カルボン酸は、好ましくは乳酸、サリチル酸または他のヒドロキシ安息香酸類で、より好ましくはサリチル酸である。リチウム石けんコンプレックス増粘剤の量は、グリースを基準として、5から20重量%までが好ましい。ヒドロキシ脂肪酸と脂肪酸ジカルボン酸および/またはヒドロキシ−カルボン酸の比は、10:0.5から10:15まで、好ましくは10:1.5から10:6までである。
本グリース組成物は、また、ポリアルケニル無水コハク酸、ポリアルケニルコハク酸またはそれらの混合物を分散剤として含む。ポリアルケニル基は、300から4,000まで、好ましくは400から2,500までの数平均分子量を持つ。好ましいポリアルケニル基は、ポリ−C3およびポリ−C4オレフィン類、特に好ましいのはポリイソブチレンである。ポリイソブチレン無水コハク酸および/またはポリイソブチレンコハク酸は、これ以後、略してPIBSAと表すことにする。分散剤の量はグリースを基準として、0.1重量%から5重量%までが好ましい。
リチウムコンプレックス石けんグリースは、水酸化リチウムの濃縮水溶液を添加しながら、ヒドロキシ脂肪酸と基油を加熱することにより調製される。高温で加熱を続けて大半の水を除去する。次に反応混合物を約100℃まで冷却し、ジカルボン酸を添加するのに続いて2回目の水酸化リチウムの濃縮溶液を添加する。この混合物を再び高温まで加熱して水を再び除去する。加熱が終了したら、グリース混合物を冷却し、残りの油および他のあらゆる添加剤を加えた後、常法の技術を用いて仕上げる。この調製は、また、基油、脂肪酸およびジカルボン酸を加熱し、次いで水酸化リチウム溶液を加え、引き続き脱水および残りの油を加えるという単一段階法でも可能である。
防食剤、極圧耐摩耗剤、流動点降下剤、粘着剤、酸化防止剤、染料、等が挙げられるが、これらに限定されない少量の補助添加剤を、グリース組成物は含んでもよく、これらの添加は特定の目的に対して組み入れられる。これらの添加剤の合計量は、一般的に、グリース組成物の全重量を基準として、約2重量%から約10重量%までの範囲である。
本発明は、本発明の好ましい実施態様を含む次の実施例を参考にすることにより更に理解されるだろう。
実施例1
本実施例では、低騒音のグリースの調製を説明する。
40℃で90センチストークスの粘度を持つ精製パラフィン系基油700g、12−ヒドロキシステアリン酸139.2g、アゼライン酸69.5g、数平均分子量950のポリイソブチル基を持つPIBSA12.0gを、実験室用釜に装入した。得た混合物を、温度が90℃に達するまで撹はんしながら加熱した。90℃に達した時点で、加熱を止め、水酸化リチウムの15%の溶液(90℃まで加熱済み)345gを撹はんしながら添加した。この水酸化リチウム水溶液の添加を終えると、加熱を再開して水を除去した。脱水過程で更に油100gを追加してグリースの硬化を制御した。210℃の温度まで加熱を続け、その時点で加熱を止め、更に油128gを追加した。この加熱混合物を70℃以下の温度までゆっくりと冷却した。冷却済みのグリースを0.005インチの隙間で混練し、脱泡させた。実施例3の表1で説明しているグリース試料は、この方法に従って作った。試料1−3および比較用試料4−14で説明しているように成分量は変化させた。
実施例2
特公昭53−2357号で更に詳しく説明されている次の方法に従ってグリース騒音を測定した。グリース中の固体粒子によって、電気信号へ変換できる振動が生じる。標準条件下で軸受のレース音を較正した後、グリース中の石けん粒子を含む固体粒子による電気信号を次の方法に従って測定できる。振動検出装置が軸受の外側リングに取り付けられている。検出装置は振動を電気信号へ変換してこの位置が増幅されて帯域濾波器へ送信される。帯域濾波器は、軸受から受け取る増幅済みの信号を軸受だけからの既知の振動周波数と比較して、軸受からの振動周波数を濾波した後、濾波した電気信号を増幅器を通してクリッパー回路へ送信する。このクリッパー回路は、定めたレベルで増幅器からの電気信号を“クリップ(clip)”する。このレベルは、グリースの中の粒子からの固体粒子騒音に対応するピーク電圧のみを測定するように設定されている。このクリッピングレベルは軸受からのレース音に対応するピーク値より大きい値で設定されている。
実施例3
本実施例は、本発明によるポリイソブテニル無水コハク酸/ポリイソブテニルコハク酸型分散剤を用いて配向されたグリースと、特公昭58−125794号に記載されているポリイソブテニルコハク酸イミド型分散剤を用いて配合されたグリースの騒音特性および滴点を比較している。グリースは実施例1の方法を用いて配合した。騒音は実施例2の方法を用いて試験し、滴点はASTM D566の試験法に従って測定した。結果を表1に示している。
ポリイソブテニル無水コハク酸/ポリイソブテニルコハク酸型分散剤が配合されたグリース(試料1−3)は、分散剤が配合されないリチウムコンプレックスグリース(試料4)と比較すると、大幅に良好な騒音特性と高い滴点を示した。また、試料1−3は、ポリイソブテニルコハク酸イミド型分散剤(比較用試料5−13)が配合されたグリースと比較すると、揃って、より高い滴点を示した。市販のリチウムコンプレックスグリース(試料14)は、本発明による試料1−3と比較すると、大幅に劣る騒音特性を示した。
Claims (4)
- a)50重量%以上の潤滑基油、
b)グリースを基準として、2から30重量%までのリチウム石けんコンプレックス増粘剤、および
c)グリースを基準として、0.1から10重量%までのポリアルケニル無水コハク酸、ポリアルケニルコハク酸またはそれらの混合物、から成り、該ポリアルケニル基が400〜2500の数平均分子量を持つポリイソブチレン基であることを特徴とする、改善された騒音特性および高い滴点を持つグリース組成物。 - 前記リチウム石けんコンプレックス増粘剤は、ヒドロキシステアリン酸、ヒドロキシリシノレイン酸、ヒドロキシベヘン酸およびヒドロキシパルミチン酸よりなる群から選択されるヒドロキシ脂肪酸のリチウム石けん、およびC2ないしC12の脂肪酸または環状脂肪酸ジカルボン酸のリチウム塩、またはC3ないしC14のヒドロキシカルボン酸のリチウム塩、またはそれらの混合物を含有する請求項1に記載のグリース組成物。
- 前記リチウム石けんコンプレックス増粘剤は、12−ヒドロキシステアリン酸のリチウム石けん、およびアゼライン酸のリチウム塩および/またはサリチル酸のリチウム塩を含有する請求項2に記載のグリース組成物。
- グリースを基準として、2から30重量%までのリチウム石けんコンプレックス増粘剤、およびグリースを基準として、0.1から10重量%までのポリイソブチレン無水コハク酸、ポリイソブチレンコハク酸またはそれらの混合物を基油に組み入れることからなり、該ポリイソブチレン基の数平均分子量が400〜2500であることを特徴とする、グリースの騒音減少への改善および高い滴点を付与する方法。
