を含む、研磨物品を形成させる方法。
図6A及び6Bは、従来の微結晶性アルミナ結晶粒(図6A)と、本明細書の実施形態を代表するナノ結晶性アルミナ結晶粒(図6B)のポリッシングした部分の走査型電子顕微鏡(SEM)像を含む。示されているように、微結晶性アルミナ(MCA)の平均結晶子サイズは約0.2ミクロンであり、ナノ結晶性アルミナ(NCA)の平均結晶子サイズは約0.1ミクロンである。
代表的なMCA結晶粒試料及びNCA結晶粒試料のビッカース硬度を、本明細書において開示する実施形態に従って測定した。MCA結晶粒及びNCA結晶粒は、Saint−Gobain Corporationから入手した。MCA結晶粒はCerpass(登録商標)HTBとして入手可能である。ナノ結晶性アルミナ及び微結晶性アルミナの結晶子サイズは、それぞれ約0.1ミクロン及び0.2ミクロンである。MCA結晶粒及びNCA結晶粒の試料は同じ方法で調製した。MCA結晶粒及びNCA結晶粒の5つの試料のビッカース硬度を試験した。MCA結晶粒及びNCA結晶粒の平均ビッカース硬度を表1に開示する。
2つの異なる種類の試料を、MCA結晶粒及びNCA結晶粒から作製した。MCA結晶粒及びNCA結晶粒の両方は、Saint−Gobain Corporationから入手した。MCA結晶粒はCerpass(登録商標)HTBとして入手可能である。研磨結晶粒47体積%を含む、第1の従来の研削ホイール試料(CS1)を作製した。研磨結晶粒は、微結晶性アルミナ粒子約25体積%と、溶融アランダム38体積%と、SiC38体積%の混合物を含んだ。試料CS1は、樹脂結合剤約20体積%、及び気孔約32体積%も含んだ。研磨粒子約47体積%を含む、第2の研削ホイール試料(S2)を作製した。研磨粒子は、ナノ結晶性アルミナ(NCA)約25体積%と、溶融アランダム38体積%と、SiC38体積%の混合物を含む。試料S2は、試料CS1と同じ種類及び含有量の結合剤及び気孔を含み、有する。粗粒サイズ36の研磨粒子と、粗粒サイズ54の研磨粒子とを用いて、試料CS1及びS2の各々で2バージョンを作製した。NCA及びMCAの結晶サイズは、それぞれ約0.1ミクロン及び0.2ミクロンであった。
Claims (15)
- 有機材料を含む結合材;及び
前記結合材に含有された研磨粒子であって、ナノ結晶性アルミナを含む研磨粒子
を含む本体部
を含む研磨物品。 - 前記研磨粒子が、約0.18ミクロン以下の平均結晶子サイズを有するナノ結晶性アルミナを含む請求項1記載の研磨物品。
- 前記研磨粒子が、約0.15ミクロン以下の平均結晶子サイズを有するナノ結晶性アルミナを含む請求項1記載の研磨物品。
- 前記ナノ結晶性アルミナが、マグネシウム、ジルコニウム、カルシウム、ケイ素、鉄、イットリウム、ランタン、セリウム、及びそれらの組合せからなる群から選択される材料を含む添加物を含む請求項1記載の研磨物品。
- 前記ナノ結晶性アルミナが、前記ナノ結晶性アルミナ粒子の総重量の約0.1重量%以上から約12重量%以下までの合計含有量の添加物を含む請求項4記載の研磨物品。
- 前記添加物が酸化マグネシウム(MgO)を含み、前記ナノ結晶性アルミナが、前記ナノ結晶性アルミナの総重量の約0.1重量%以上から約5重量%以下までのMgOを含む請求項4記載の研磨物品。
- 前記添加物が酸化ジルコニウム(ZrO2)を含み、前記ナノ結晶性アルミナが、前記ナノ結晶性アルミナの総重量の約0.1重量%以上から約8重量%以下までのZrO2を含む請求項4記載の研磨物品。
- 前記添加物が酸化マグネシウム(MgO)及び酸化ジルコニウム(ZrO2)を含み、前記ナノ結晶性アルミナが、約0.01以上から1.5以下までの範囲の添加物比(MgO/ZrO2)を有する請求項4記載の研磨物品。
- 前記添加物が酸化カルシウム(CaO)を含み、前記ナノ結晶性アルミナが、前記ナノ結晶性アルミナの総重量の約0.01重量%以上から約5重量%以下までのCaOを含む請求項4記載の研磨物品。
- 前記添加物が酸化マグネシウム(MgO)及び酸化カルシウム(CaO)を含み、前記ナノ結晶性アルミナが、約0.01以上から1以下までの添加物比(CaO/MgO)を有する請求項4記載の研磨物品。
- 有機材料を含む結合材;
ナノ結晶性アルミナを含む研磨粒子;
を含む混合物を形成させること、及び
前記混合物を硬化させて、固定研磨物品を形成させること
を含む、研磨物品を形成させる方法。 - 前記研磨粒子が、約0.18ミクロン以下の平均結晶子サイズを有するナノ結晶性アルミナを含む請求項11記載の方法。
- 前記研磨粒子が、約0.15ミクロン以下の平均結晶子サイズを有するナノ結晶性アルミナを含む請求項11記載の方法。
- 前記研磨粒子が、0.13ミクロン以下の平均結晶子サイズを有するナノ結晶性アルミナを含む請求項11記載の方法。
- 前記研磨粒子が、約0.01ミクロン以上の平均結晶子サイズを有するナノ結晶性アルミナを含む請求項11〜14のいずれか1項に記載の方法。
