Abstract
【解決手段】電解質層4と、前記電解質層4を挟んで対向配置され、液体燃料が供給される燃料側電極2、および、酸素が供給される酸素側電極3とを備える燃料電池1において、電解質層4は、アニオン交換膜であり、液体燃料は、少なくとも水素および窒素を含有する化合物を含み、燃料側電極2は、ニオブ酸化物とニッケル酸化物とを含み、ニッケル酸化物中のニッケルに対するニオブ酸化物中のニオブの比率(ニオブ/ニッケル)が、0を超過し、0.5未満である。

Description
(式中、R1は、炭素数1〜6のアルキル基、炭素数1〜6のフルオロアルキル基またはアリール基を示し、R2は、炭素数1〜6のアルキル基、炭素数1〜6のフルオロアルキル基、アリール基または炭素数1〜4のアルコキシ基を示し、R3は、水素原子または炭素数1〜4のアルキル基を示す。)

上記一般式(1)および上記一般式(2)中、R1、R2およびR4の炭素数1〜6のアルキル基としては、例えば、メチル、エチル、プロピル、イソプロピル、n−ブチル、s−ブチル、t−ブチル、t−アミル、t−ヘキシルなどが挙げられる。また、R3およびR5の炭素数1〜4のアルキル基としては、例えば、メチル、エチル、プロピル、イソプロピル、n−ブチル、s−ブチル、t−ブチルなどが挙げられる。

また、二段反応は、燃料側電極2、酸素側電極3および全体として、次の反応式(4)〜(7)で表すことができる。
(4) NH2NH2→2H2+N2 (分解反応;燃料側電極)
(5) H2+2OH−→2H2O+2e− (燃料側電極)
(6) 1/2O2+H2O+2e−→2OH− (酸素側電極)
(7) H2+1/2O2→H2O (全体)
一方、上記の反応では、燃料電池の稼働中に、過酸化水素が発生し、これにより、燃料電池が劣化するという不具合がある。この反応は、反応式(8)のように示される。
(8) NH2NH2+2O2→2H2O2+N2
しかし、燃料側電極2が、ニッケル酸化物中のニッケルに対するニオブ酸化物中のニオブの比率(ニオブ/ニッケル)が、上記した範囲であるため、燃料電池の出力低下を抑制しつつ、燃料電池の耐久性に優れる。
カーボン粉末(商品名:カーボンECP600JD(ケッチェンブラックECP600JDの粉末)、ライオン社製)10gを、純水0.323Lに加え、カーボン粉末を分散させ、分散液を得た。この分散液に、硝酸ニッケル水溶液(商品名:硝酸ニッケル六水和物、ニッケル含有量:ニッケル金属単体に換算して8g、溶媒:純水0.099L)を配合し、十分に混合させた。次いで、この分散液に、ニオブゾル(酸化ニオブ、商品名:バイラール、ニオブ含有量:ニオブ金属担体に換算して1g、溶媒:純水0.024L)を配合し、十分に混合させた。その後、この分散液を蒸発させ、粉末を得た。次いで、その粉末を60℃で15時間真空乾燥させた。その後、その粉末をアルゴン(Ar)ガス中(酸素濃度0.005%以下)において400℃で3時間熱処理(焼成)して、金属酸化物触媒粉末を得た。
硝酸ニッケル水溶液のニッケル含有量を、ニッケル金属単体に換算して4gに変更した以外は、実施例1と同様に処理して、金属酸化物触媒粉末を得た。
カーボン粉末(商品名:カーボンECP600JD(ケッチェンブラックECP600JDの粉末)、ライオン社製)5gを純水0.45Lに加え、カーボン粉末を分散させ、分散液を得た。この分散液に、硝酸ニッケル水溶液(商品名:硝酸ニッケル六水和物、ニッケル含有量:ニッケル金属単体に換算して5g、溶媒:純水0.6L)を配合し、十分に混合させた。次いで、この分散液に、水素化ホウ素ナトリウム6.4gを含む水溶液1.5Lを滴下し、ニッケルをカーボン上に担持させた。その後、この分散液をろ過するとともに、ろ液の導電率が50μS/cm以下になるまで水洗し、粉末を得た。次いで、その粉末を100℃で10時間真空乾燥させた。その後、アルゴン(Ar)ガス中(酸素濃度0.005%以下)において600℃で2時間熱処理(焼成)して、金属触媒粉末を得た。
アルゴンガス中における熱処理の温度を400℃とした以外は、比較例1と同様に処理して、金属酸化物触媒粉末を得た。
硝酸ニッケル水溶液のニッケル含有量を、ニッケル金属単体に換算して2gに変更した以外は、実施例1と同様に処理して、金属酸化物触媒粉末を得た。
<耐久性評価>
各実施例および各比較例のそれぞれの金属酸化物触媒粉末0.15gと、電解質樹脂溶液(炭化水素系アイオノマー(電解質樹脂)(商品名:A3、AS4)、溶媒:1−プロパノール:THF=1:1(質量比)、2質量%濃度、トクヤマ社製)3.75gとを混合し、得られた混合物を、溶媒(1−プロパノール:THF=1:1(質量比))2.0gに分散させて、燃料側電極インクを調製した。

(考察)
図2に示すように、各実施例および各比較例のそれぞれの金属酸化物触媒は、耐久性評価の開始から触媒活性が低下した。
これらの結果から、燃料側電極が、ニオブ酸化物とニッケル酸化物とを含み、ニッケル酸化物中のニッケルに対するニオブ酸化物中のニオブの比率(ニオブ/ニッケル)が、0を超過し、0.5未満であれば、燃料側電極の耐久性に優れると考察できる。

- 電解質層と、前記電解質層を挟んで対向配置され、液体燃料が供給される燃料側電極、および、酸素が供給される酸素側電極とを備える燃料電池において、
前記電解質層は、アニオン交換膜であり、
前記液体燃料は、少なくとも水素および窒素を含有する化合物を含み、
前記燃料側電極は、ニオブ酸化物とニッケル酸化物とを含み、
前記ニッケル酸化物中のニッケルに対する前記ニオブ酸化物中のニオブの比率(ニオブ/ニッケル)が、0を超過し、0.5未満であることを特徴とする、燃料電池。
