Abstract
Description
(a)円筒形の缶の収納部に正極、分離膜、及び負極を含む電極組立体(ジェリーロール)を収納する過程;
(b)前記収納部に注入する電解液の量を調節して、安全ベントと収納部との間に形成される加圧部と収納部の相対的な体積を調節する過程;及び
(c)前記円筒形の缶の開放上端部にキャップアセンブリを搭載する過程;
を含む。
(d)前記円筒型電池の活性化のための充放電を行い、前記充放電で発生したガスを加圧部に捕集することによって、所定の圧力を生成する過程。
LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4を正極活物質として使用し、導電材(Super−P)、バインダー(PVdF)をそれぞれ90:5:5の重量比でNMPに入れ、ミキシングして正極合剤を製造した後、20μmの厚さのアルミニウム箔にコーティングし、圧延及び乾燥して、正極を製造した。
前記実施例1において、円筒形の缶に電解液を3.4g注入した以外は、実施例1と同様にして円筒型電池を製造した。このとき、加圧部の体積は、収納部の体積に対して2.5%であった。
前記実施例1において、電極組立体及び電解液を円筒形の缶の代わりにパウチ型電池ケースに収納した後、熱融着してパウチ型電池を製造した以外は、実施例1と同様にして電池を製造した。
前記実施例1、実施例2及び比較例1の電池を、25℃のチャンバーで1Cで充放電を行いながら、初期容量に対する容量維持率を測定し、その結果を図8及び図9に示す。

- 正極、分離膜、及び負極を含む電極組立体(ジェリーロール)と、
前記電極組立体及び電解液が共に収納される収納部を含む円筒形の缶と、
前記円筒形の缶の開放上端部に搭載されるキャップアセンブリと、
前記キャップアセンブリに内蔵されており、円筒型電池の内部に存在するガスの圧力によって破裂するようにノッチが形成されている安全ベントと、
前記安全ベントと収納部との間に位置し、収納部と連通しており、ガスによって収納部に所定の圧力を加える加圧部と
を含み、
前記正極は、正極活物質として、下記化学式1で表されるリチウム複合遷移金属酸化物を含むことを特徴とする、円筒型電池:
Li1+aNibMcMn2−(b+c)O4−z (1)
上記式中、Mは、Ti、Co、Al、Cu、Fe、Mg、B、Cr、Zr、Zn及び2周期の遷移金属からなる群から選択される1つ以上であり、0≦a≦0.1、0.4≦b≦0.5、0≦c≦0.1、0≦z≦0.1である。 - 前記加圧部は3〜25気圧のガスを含むことを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の円筒型電池。
- 前記加圧部は10〜25気圧のガスを含むことを特徴とする、請求項2に記載の円筒型電池。
- 前記ガスは、電池の活性化のための充放電時に電解液の分解反応によって生成されたガスを含むことを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の円筒型電池。
- 前記加圧部の体積は、収納部の体積に対して0.1%〜20%であることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の円筒型電池。
- 前記加圧部の体積は、収納部の体積に対して0.1%〜10%であることを特徴とする、請求項5に記載の円筒型電池。
- 前記電解液は、電極組立体が完全に浸漬されるように過剰に含まれていることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の円筒型電池。
- 前記安全ベントは、25気圧超の圧力で破裂するように設定されていることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の円筒型電池。
- 前記安全ベントは、30気圧以上の圧力で破裂するように設定されていることを特徴とする、請求項8に記載の円筒型電池。
- 前記負極は、負極活物質として、下記化学式2で表されるリチウム金属酸化物を含むことを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の円筒型電池:

上記式中、M’は、Ti、Sn、Cu、Pb、Sb、Zn、Fe、In、Al及びZrからなる群から選択される1つ以上の元素であり、
a及びbは、0.1≦a≦4、0.2≦b≦4の範囲でM’の酸化数(oxidation number)によって決定され、
cは、0≦c<0.2の範囲で酸化数によって決定され、
Aは、−1又は−2価の1つ以上のアニオンである。 - 前記化学式2のリチウム金属酸化物は、下記化学式3で表されるリチウムチタン酸化物(Lithium Titanium Oxide:LTO)であることを特徴とする、請求項10に記載の円筒型電池:

上記式中、0.5≦a≦3、1≦b≦2.5である。 - 前記化学式3のリチウムチタン酸化物は、Li1.33Ti1.67O4またはLiTi2O4であることを特徴とする、請求項11に記載の円筒型電池。
- 前記キャップアセンブリは、安全ベントの外周面に沿って接続されている突出状の上端キャップをさらに含むことを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の円筒型電池。
- 前記キャップアセンブリは、上端キャップの外周面に装着されているガスケットをさらに含むことを特徴とする、請求項13に記載の円筒型電池。
- 前記キャップアセンブリの上端キャップと安全ベントとの間にはPTC素子が介在していることを特徴とする、請求項13に記載の円筒型電池。
- 請求項1に記載の円筒型電池を含むことを特徴とする、デバイス。
- 前記デバイスは、コンピュータ、携帯電話、ウェアラブル電子機器、パワーツール(power tool)、電気自動車(Electric Vehicle:EV)、ハイブリッド電気自動車、プラグインハイブリッド電気自動車、電気二輪車、電気ゴルフカート、または電力貯蔵用システムであることを特徴とする、請求項16に記載のデバイス。
- 請求項1に記載の円筒型電池を製造する方法であって、
(a)円筒形の缶の収納部に正極、分離膜、及び負極を含む電極組立体(ジェリーロール)を収納する過程と、
(b)前記収納部に注入する電解液の量を調節して、安全ベントと収納部との間に形成される加圧部と収納部の相対的な体積を調節する過程と、
(c)前記円筒形の缶の開放上端部にキャップアセンブリを搭載する過程と
を含むことを特徴とする、円筒型電池の製造方法。 - 前記過程(b)において、加圧部の体積は、収納部の体積に対して0.1%〜20%、詳細には0.1%〜10%となるように調節することを特徴とする、請求項18に記載の円筒型電池の製造方法。
- 前記過程(c)の後に、以下の過程をさらに含むことを特徴とする、請求項18に記載の円筒型電池の製造方法:
(d)前記円筒型電池の活性化のための充放電を行い、前記充放電で発生したガスを加圧部に捕集することによって、所定の圧力を生成する過程。 - 前記過程(d)において、所定の圧力は3〜25気圧であり、詳細には10〜25気圧であることを特徴とする、請求項20に記載の円筒型電池の製造方法。
