Abstract
Description
そこで、本開示の一態様における目的は、表示装置の表示品位を高めることである。
なお、開示はあくまで一例に過ぎず、当業者において、発明の主旨を保っての適宜変更について容易に想到し得るものについては、当然に本発明の範囲に含有される。また、図面は、説明をより明確にするため、実際の態様に比べて模式的に表される場合があるが、あくまで一例であって、本発明の解釈を限定するものではない。各図において、連続して配置される同一又は類似の要素については符号を省略することがある。また、本明細書と各図において、既出の図に関して前述したものと同一又は類似した機能を発揮する構成要素には同一の参照符号を付し、重複する詳細な説明を省略することがある。
図1は、第1実施形態に係る液晶表示装置1の概略的な構成を示す平面図である。液晶表示装置1は、例えば、スマートフォン、タブレット端末、携帯電話端末、パーソナルコンピュータ、テレビ受像装置、車載装置、ゲーム機器、ウェアラブル端末等の種々の装置に用いることができる。
図3は、液晶表示装置1の概略的な断面構造を示す図である。アレイ基板ARは、透光性を有したガラス基板である第1基板10を備えている。同じく、対向基板CTは、透光性を有したガラス基板である第2基板20を備えている。アレイ基板AR及び対向基板CTは、それぞれ第1基板10及び第2基板20以外の要素(例えば図5に示す要素)も備えているが、図3においては省略している。本実施形態では、第1基板10及び第2基板20がガラス基板である場合を想定するが、これら基板は透光性を有したアクリル樹脂などの樹脂材料にて形成することもできる。
その他、本実施形態からは種々の好適な効果を得ることができる。
第1実施形態においては、光源3が放つ光が励起光であり、この励起光を受けて発光層8から可視光が発生する構成を開示した。これに対し、第2実施形態では、光源3が放つ光が可視光である場合を想定する。特に言及しない構成及び効果は第1実施形態と同様である。
第3実施形態においては、第2実施形態の変形例を開示する。特に言及しない構成及び効果は上述の各実施形態と同様である。
第4実施形態においては、液晶表示装置1を、外光が透過可能ないわゆる透明液晶表示装置として構成する例を開示する。特に言及しない構成及び効果は上述の各実施形態と同様である。
また、本実施形態では、バックベゼル90及びフロントベゼル91の全てが透光性を有する場合を例示したが、バックベゼル90のみ透光性を有しても良い。さらに、バックベゼル90のうち、液晶セル2と対向する領域のみ、或いは表示領域DAと対向する領域のみ透光性を有しても良い。
第5実施形態においては、上述した各実施形態の光源3及び第1基板10の側面SFに適用可能な変形例を開示する。特に言及しない構成及び効果は上述の各実施形態と同様である。
以上の他にも、光源3や第1基板10の側面SFは種々の態様に変形することができる。
第6実施形態においては、プリズムフィルム6を不要とした構成を開示する。このような構成は、上述した各実施形態のいずれにも適用可能である。特に言及しない構成及び効果は上述の各実施形態と同様である。

- 第1面と、前記第1面の反対側の第2面と、前記第1面及び前記第2面を繋ぐ側面とを有する透光性の第1基板と、
前記第1基板の前記第1面に対向する第3面と、前記第3面の反対側の第4面とを有する透光性の第2基板と、
前記第1基板と前記第2基板との間に配置された液晶層と、
前記第2基板の前記第4面側に配置された偏光素子と、
前記第1基板の前記側面に偏光した平行光を照射する光源と、
前記光源から前記第1基板に入射した前記平行光の光路を前記第2基板に向けて屈曲させる屈曲体と、
を備え、
前記第1基板と前記光源との間には偏光素子が配置されておらず、
