Abstract
Description
1つの実施形態においては、上記非偏光部の形状および/または特性を検査する。
1つの実施形態においては、上記偏光子を保護する表面保護フィルムを介して撮像する。
1つの実施形態においては、上記表面保護フィルムと撮像部との間に他の光学部材を介さずに撮像する。
本発明の別の局面によれば、偏光子の製造方法が提供される。この製造方法は、偏光子に非偏光部を形成する工程、および、上記検査方法により検査する工程を含む。
1つの実施形態においては、上記非偏光部の形成後、連続して、上記検査を行う。
1つの実施形態においては、偏光子に塩基性溶液を接触させて上記非偏光部を形成する。
1つの実施形態においては、上記偏光子が、その少なくとも一部が露出するように表面保護フィルムで被覆された状態で、上記塩基性溶液の接触を行う。
図1は、本発明の検査対象である偏光子の1つの具体例を示す平面図である。偏光子1は、二色性物質を含む樹脂フィルムから構成される。偏光子1には、小円形の非偏光部2が偏光子1の上端部中央部に形成されている。
本発明の検査方法は、非偏光部を有する偏光子の非偏光部を含む範囲に光を照射し、偏光子の透過光像を撮像する工程を含む。撮像工程においては、代表的には、上記非偏光部を有する偏光子の一方の側から光を照射し、他方の側から偏光子を透過した光を撮像する。
本発明の非偏光部を有する偏光子の製造方法は、偏光子に非偏光部を形成すること、および、上記検査方法により非偏光部を検査することを含む。
偏光子は、代表的には、上記樹脂フィルムに膨潤処理、延伸処理、上記二色性物質による染色処理、架橋処理、洗浄処理、乾燥処理等の各種処理を施すことにより得られる。各種処理を施す際、樹脂フィルムは、基材上に形成された樹脂層であってもよい。上記非偏光部の形成は、偏光子の作製工程の途中でも行い得る。
非偏光部の形成後、上記検査方法により非偏光部の検査を行う。検査を行う際、偏光子に上記表面保護フィルムが積層された状態であってもよいし、表面保護フィルムが剥離された状態であってもよい。また、検査を行う際、偏光子は少なくとも片側に保護フィルムが貼り合わされて偏光板の状態であることが好ましい。

- 非偏光部を有する偏光子の非偏光部を含む範囲に光を照射し、該偏光子の透過光像を撮像する工程を含み、
前記透過光像における非偏光部と他の部位とのコントラスト比(非偏光部/他の部位)が1.5以上である、
偏光子の検査方法。 - 前記非偏光部の形状および/または特性を検査する、請求項1に記載の検査方法。
- 前記偏光子を保護する表面保護フィルムを介して撮像する、請求項1または2に記載の検査方法。
- 前記表面保護フィルムと撮像部との間に他の光学部材を介さずに撮像する、請求項3に記載の検査方法。
- 偏光子に非偏光部を形成する工程、および、
請求項1から4のいずれかに記載の検査方法により検査する工程
を含む、非偏光部を有する偏光子の製造方法。 - 前記非偏光部の形成後、連続して、前記検査を行う、請求項5に記載の製造方法。
- 偏光子に塩基性溶液を接触させて前記非偏光部を形成する、請求項5または6に記載の製造方法。
- 前記偏光子が、その少なくとも一部が露出するように表面保護フィルムで被覆された状態で、前記塩基性溶液の接触を行う、請求項7に記載の製造方法。
