Description

半再帰反射(semi−retro−reflection)とは、ほぼ巨視的に平面状の構造の反射特性を意味しており、この場合に、平面状の構造は、自身に入射した光のかなりの部分を反射し、且つ、特に、巨視的に平面状の構造に対して垂直の方向から約45度未満だけ逸脱した方向の範囲内の入射光の場合に、特別な方向特性により、これを実行する。特別な方向特性とは、それぞれの入射光線ごとに、反射された光が、巨視的にランダムであると共に主には既定の最大逸脱未満である逆方向からの逸脱を伴って、ほぼ逆方向において後方に、即ち、原点に向かって戻るように、伝播するというものであり、この場合に、既定の最大逸脱は、約45度未満である。この半再帰反射は、一般的な照明及び観察条件下における表面の見かけの反射率の増大を意味する「光学利得」としばしば呼称されるものを有する。更には、光がこの構造から反射される方式は、紙様の白色の外観を結果的にもたらす。紙様の白色の外観は、一般に、光学利得を有する光学系において通常観察される金属的な光沢よりも、好ましい。
