Abstract
【解決手段】本明細書で開示する発明の一態様の構成は、陰極と、陰極上の第1の層と、第1の層上の第2の層と、第2の層上の発光層と、発光層上の陽極と、を有し、第2の層は、アルカリ金属若しくはアルカリ土類金属を有し、第1の層は、電子輸送性材料を有することを特徴とする発光素子である。逆構造の発光素子において、電子注入層が有する材料に含まれるアルカリ金属若しくはアルカリ土類金属が、先に形成された陰極と接すると、EL素子の駆動電圧の上昇や発光効率の低下を引き起こす。特に、陰極が酸化物導電膜を有しているときに問題は顕著となる。これを防ぐために、陰極と電子注入層との間に、バッファーとなる層を設ける。

Description
本実施の形態では、本発明の一態様の発光素子について図1を用いて説明する。
EL層は、少なくとも発光物質を有する発光層を有し、逆構造においては陰極側から電子注入層、電子輸送層、発光層、正孔輸送層、正孔注入層の順に形成される。各層は必ずしも単層である必要はなく、2以上の層から構成されてもよい。また、電子注入層及び電子輸送層の機能を1の層で実現してもよく、正孔輸送層及び正孔注入層の機能を1の層で実現することもできる。また、発光層以外の層のうち1又は複数の層が省略される場合もある。
本発明の一態様において、陰極101と電子注入層103との間に、層102を形成する。層102は、電子注入層103を形成する材料に含まれるアルカリ金属、又はアルカリ土類金属が、直接陰極101と接することを防止する機能を有する。
本実施の形態においては、実施の形態1に記載の発光素子を有する発光装置について説明する。
本実施の形態では、実施の形態1に記載の発光素子を適用して作製された発光装置を用いて完成させた様々な電子機器の一例について、図4を用いて説明する。
本実施の形態では、実施の形態1に記載の発光素子を適用して作製された発光装置を用いて完成させた照明装置の一例について、図6を用いて説明する。
本実施の形態では、本発明の一態様である発光素子を用いて作製される発光装置について、図13を用いて説明する。
本実施の形態では、本発明の一態様である発光素子を適用して作製された発光装置について図14を用いて説明する。
本実施の形態では、本発明の一態様である発光素子を適用して作製された照明装置について図15を用いて説明する。
本実施の形態においては、本発明の一態様の発光装置と組み合わせることができるタッチセンサ、及びモジュールについて、図16乃至図19を用いて説明する。
本実施の形態では、本発明の一態様である発光素子の構造について、図20を用いて説明する。
まず、基板100として、ガラス基板を用意した。
比較発光素子1は、層102以外、ほぼ発光素子1と同様に形成した。層102は形成せずに、陰極101上に電子注入層103を形成した。
以上により得られた発光素子1及び比較発光素子1を、窒素雰囲気のグローブボックス内において、発光素子が大気に曝されないように封止する作業(素子周辺へのシール材塗布、UV処理、及び80℃にて1時間の熱処理)を行った後、発光素子1及び比較発光素子1の動作特性について測定を行った。なお、測定は室温(25℃に保たれた雰囲気)で行った。
さらに、発光素子1及び比較発光素子1について信頼性試験を行った。定電流駆動時の規格化した輝度時間変化を図9に示す。図9では縦軸が規格化輝度(%)、横軸が時間(h)を示す。信頼性試験において、発光素子1は試験開始から480時間経過後に初期輝度の約69%の輝度を維持した。一方で、比較発光素子1は試験開始から110時間を満たずして輝度が初期値から50%以下となったため、途中で試験を中止した。
まず、基板100として、ガラス基板を用意した。
比較発光素子2は、層102の有無及び発光層105の膜厚以外、ほぼ発光素子2と同様に形成した。層102は形成せずに、陰極101上に電子注入層103を形成した。また、発光層105の膜厚を40nmとなるように形成した。
以上により得られた発光素子2及び比較発光素子2を、窒素雰囲気のグローブボックス内において、発光素子が大気に曝されないように封止する作業(素子周辺へのシール材塗布、UV処理、及び80℃にて1時間の熱処理)を行った後、発光素子2及び比較発光素子2の動作特性について測定を行った。なお、測定は室温(25℃に保たれた雰囲気)で行った。
さらに、発光素子2及び比較発光素子2について信頼性試験を行った。定電流駆動時の駆動時の規格化した輝度時間変化を図12に示す。図12では縦軸が規格化輝度(%)、横軸が時間(h)を示す。

- 陽極と、
陰極と、を有し、
前記陽極と前記陰極との間に発光層を有し、
前記陰極と前記発光層との間に第1の層を有し、
前記第1の層と前記発光層との間に第2の層を有し、
前記第2の層は、アルカリ金属若しくはアルカリ土類金属を有し、
前記第1の層は、電子輸送性材料を有することを特徴とする発光素子。 - 陰極と、
前記陰極上の第1の層と、
前記第1の層上の第2の層と、
前記第2の層上の発光層と、
前記発光層上の陽極と、を有し、
前記第2の層は、アルカリ金属若しくはアルカリ土類金属を有し、
前記第1の層は、電子輸送性材料を有することを特徴とする発光素子。 - 陽極と、
陰極と、を有し、
前記陽極と前記陰極との間に発光層を有し、
前記陰極と前記発光層との間に第1の層を有し、
前記第1の層と前記発光層との間に第2の層を有し、
前記陰極と前記第1の層との間に第3の層を有し、
前記第3の層は、正孔輸送性材料と電子受容体とを有し、
前記第2の層は、アルカリ金属若しくはアルカリ土類金属を有し、

前記第3の層は、正孔輸送性材料と電子受容体とを有し、

前記第1の層は、電子輸送性材料を有することを特徴とする発光素子。 - 請求項1乃至請求項4のいずれか一において、
前記第1の層は、前記アルカリ金属若しくは前記アルカリ土類金属が前記陰極に拡散することを抑制することができる機能を有することを特徴とする発光素子。 - 請求項1乃至請求項5のいずれか一において、
前記電子輸送性材料は、バソフェナントロリン若しくはトリス(8−キノリノラト)アルミニウムを有することを特徴とする発光素子。 - 請求項1乃至請求項6のいずれか一において、
前記アルカリ金属若しくは前記アルカリ土類金属は、リチウム、カルシウムのいずれか一であることを特徴とする発光素子。 - 請求項1乃至請求項7のいずれか一において、
前記陽極は、酸素と、スズと、インジウムと、を有することを特徴とする発光素子。 - 請求項1乃至請求項8のいずれか一において、
前記陰極は、酸素を有する導電材料を有することを特徴とする発光素子。 - 請求項1乃至請求項9のいずれか一において、
前記陰極は、透光性を有する材料を含むことを特徴とする発光素子。 - 請求項1乃至請求項10のいずれか一において、
前記陰極は、インジウム、錫、及び酸素を有することを特徴とする発光素子。 - 請求項1乃至請求項11のいずれか一に記載の発光素子と、電界効果トランジスタと、を有する発光装置であって、
前記陰極は、前記電界効果トランジスタと電気的に接続されていることを特徴とする発光装置。 - 請求項12において、
前記電界効果トランジスタは、n型電界効果トランジスタであることを特徴とする発光装置。 - 請求項12または請求項13において、
前記電界効果トランジスタは、半導体層に酸化物半導体を有することを特徴とする発光装置。 - 請求項14において、
前記酸化物半導体は、インジウムと、スズと、ガリウムと、を有することを特徴とする発光装置。 - 請求項1乃至請求項11のいずれか一に記載の発光素子、または、請求項12乃至請求項15のいずれか一に記載の発光装置と、
