しかし、このような動物は飼育小屋を離れて動き回ることも多く、上記のような方法では効果的に蚊などの飛翔性吸血害虫から動物への接触、吸血を抑制し、動物を防護することは十分ではなかった。
一方で、動物の体表面に寄生するノミやダニなどの駆除を目的とした滴下剤と呼ばれるノミやダニなどの防除剤については、例えば特許文献1に記載されているが、同特許文献1では動物の体表面に寄生することのない蚊などの飛翔性吸血害虫に対する具体的効果についての記載はなく、依然として飛翔性吸血害虫による吸血からこのような動物を防護する方法は未知のままであった。
