Abstract
【解決手段】本発明表示装置は光ガイドと可動素子を備える。選択手段により可動素子に局部的に力を及ぼすことによって、可動素子と光ガイドとの間に光学的接触をもたらすことができる。光は光学的接触が生起する位置において表示装置から出る。選択手段により及ぼされる力をできるだけ効率よく利用する手段を講ずる。これは、力を光学的接触が生起する位置に作用させることにより及び、又は(特に圧力差、静電帯電、表面応力、ファンデルワールス力及び、又は化学的力により生ずる)付着力を低減又は除去することにより達成することができる。

であり、ここでFは前記力、Vは電位差、dは電極間の距離及びSは電極の表面積である。他の力がない場合には、10−100V程度の大きさのスイッチング電圧を用いて可動素子をスイッチさせる、即ち可動素子を光ガイドと局部的に接触させる又は光ガイドとの接触を中断させることができる。

Claims (19)
- 光ガイドと、可動素子と、前記可動素子を光ガイドと局部的に接触させる選択手段とを備える表示装置において、前記選択手段が透明電極を備え、且つ動作中に、前記可動素子が光ガイドと接触するとき電極の位置で光ガイドと接触し、その結果として光が透明電極を経て放射せしめられることを特徴とする表示装置。
- 前記可動素子は該素子から静電荷を除去する手段を備えていることを特徴とする請求項1記載の表示装置。
- 前記可動素子は導電性であるとともに、一定の電位にあることを特徴とする請求項1記載の表示装置。
- 前記可動素子の光ガイドに面する面上に付着防止層が設けられていることおよび、または光ガイドの可動素子に面する面上に付着防止層が設けられていることを特徴とする請求項1記載の表示装置。
- 前記可動素子の光ガイドに面する表面および、または前記光ガイドの可動素子に面する表面は5nm以上の平均荒さ(Ra)を有し、且つ両表面の何れも0.1μmを超える荒さを有しないことを特徴とする請求項1記載の表示装置。
- 前記両表面の粗さは50〜200nmの範囲であることを特徴とする請求項5記載の表示装置。
- 前記可動素子と前記光ガイドとの間に液体が存在しないことを特徴とする請求項1記載の表示装置。
- 前記可動素子は排気空間内に配置されていることを特徴とする請求項1記載の表示装置。
- 前記可動素子が前記光ガイドと他の素子との間に配置され、前記選択手段が、前記可動素子を前記光ガイドの方向に動かす力及び前記可動素子を前記他の素子の方向に動かす力を局部的に発生する手段を備えていることを特徴とする請求項1記載の表示装置。
- 光ガイドと、可動素子と、前記可動素子を光ガイドと局部的に接触させる選択手段とを備える表示装置において、前記可動素子および前記光ガイドのうち少なくとも1つは、前記可動素子と前記光ガイドとの接触が行われる側に付着防止層を備え、且つ前記選択手段が電極を備え、該電極の少なくとも1つは実質的に透明であることを特徴とする表示装置。
- 前記可動素子は導電性であることを特徴とする請求項10記載の表示装置。
- 光ガイドと、可動素子と、前記可動素子を光ガイドと局部的に接触させる選択手段とを備える表示装置において、前記選択手段が電極を備え、該電極の少なくとも1つは実質的に透明であり、且つ前記可動素子は、動作中に前記光ガイドと接触すると、前記透明の電極の場所において前記光ガイドと接触し、それによって前記透明の電極を通して光を発光させることを特徴とする表示装置。
- 前記可動素子と前記光ガイドとの付着力を低減させる手段をさらに備えていることを特徴とする請求項12記載の表示装置。
- 前記可動素子は、該可動素子からの静電荷を除去する手段を備えていることを特徴とする請求項12記載の表示装置。
- 前記可動素子は導電性であることを特徴とする請求項12記載の表示装置。
- 前記可動素子は、前記光ガイドに面する側に付着防止層が設けられていること、および/または、前記光ガイドは、前記可動素子に面する側に付着防止層が設けられていること、を特徴とする請求項12記載の表示装置。
- 前記可動素子の前記光ガイドに面する表面、および/または、前記光ガイドの前記可動素子に面する表面は、5nm以上の平均荒さ(Ra)を有することを特徴とする請求項12記載の表示装置。
- 両表面の荒さは50〜200nmの範囲であることを特徴とする請求項17記載の表示装置。
- 前記可動素子が前記光ガイドと他の素子との間に配置され、前記選択手段が、前記可動素子を前記光ガイドの方向に動かす力及び前記可動素子を前記他の素子の方向に動かす力を局部的に発生する手段を備えていることを特徴とする請求項12記載の表示装置。
