Abstract
【解決手段】液晶表示装置は、透明な画素電極12が形成された駆動基板と、対向電極が形成された対向基板と、駆動基板と対向基板との間に配され基板に対して垂直に配向する液晶とからなる。駆動基板は、画素電極12の下方に配された画素容量6と、画素電極12及び画素容量6に信号電圧を書き込む画素トランジスタとが形成されている。画素電極12は液晶を分割的に垂直配向する為のスリット31が画素容量6の上に形成されている。画素容量6は、光を反射する電極62を有して反射領域を形成する。液晶は、反射領域にある部分の厚みが、反射領域以外の透過領域にある部分の厚みの半分よりも大きい。

Claims (6)
- 透明な画素電極が形成された駆動基板と、対向電極が形成された対向基板と、該駆動基板と対向基板との間に配され基板に対して垂直に配向する液晶とからなり、
前記駆動基板は、該画素電極の下方に配された画素容量と、該画素電極及び画素容量に信号電圧を書き込む画素トランジスタとが形成されており、
前記画素電極は該液晶を分割的に垂直配向する為のスリットが該画素容量の上に形成されており、
前記画素容量は、光を反射する電極を有して反射領域を形成し、
前記液晶は、該反射領域にある部分の厚みが、該反射領域以外の透過領域にある部分の厚みの半分よりも大きいことを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記画素容量は、下側の電極と、上側の電極と、両電極の間に配された誘電体とからなり、該上側の電極は該画素電極と同電位にあることを特徴とする請求項1記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記画素電極は、該画素容量の上に形成された該スリットの面積が、該画素容量の平面積の半分以上に及ぶことを特徴とする請求項1記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記対向基板は該液晶に接する配向核を有し、該配向核は該駆動基板に形成された画素電極のスリットと協働して該液晶を分割的に垂直配向することを特徴とする請求項1記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記駆動基板側は偏光板とλ/4板又はその機能を奏する部材が配され、前記対向基板側にも偏光板とλ/4板又はその機能を奏する部材が配されていることを特徴とする請求項1記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記液晶は、該画素電極に最大の信号電圧が印加された時、該反射領域にある部分がλ/4板として機能し、該透過領域にある部分がλ/2板として機能することを特徴とする請求項5記載の液晶表示装置。
