Description
米国政府は、本発明に関して一括払い済みライセンスを有し、また、政府は限られた条件下で米国陸軍戦車車両・兵器部隊により与えられた契約番号DAAE070130007の条件に規定してあるとおりに、特許権者が合理的な金額で他者にライセンスを供与することを要求する権利を有する。
本発明は、一般に、再充電可能な高性能電池、モジュール及びパックの改良に関する。具体的には、本発明は、多重単電池型の一体鋳造電池に関する。
再充電可能なニッケル金属水素(Ni−MH)電池は、様々な工業、および商業上の用途、例えばフォークリフト、ゴルフカート、無停電電源、純電気自動車及びハイブリッド車等で使用されている。車輌用途は、推進に関連する用途、および始動、照明及びイグニション(starting lighting and ignition;“SLI”)に関連する用途を含む。Ovonic Battery Company(“OBC”)は、多種の用途のための高エネルギ及び高出力のニッケル金属水素電池を開発した。OBCの科学者及びエンジニアによって電池の作動を全ての面で改良するための広範囲に及ぶ研究が行われている。
本願明細書には、電池ケースの内部を複数の隔室に分割する1つ又は1つ以上の仕切りを含む電池ケースと、ケース内に配置された複数の電気化学単電池とを備える多重単電池型電池であって、電池ケースが、少なくとも2つの隔室からの単電池ガスをガス排出孔へ運ぶガス流路を備え、ガス流路が、蛇行した流路を有する、多重単電池型電池が開示されている。
本発明は、多重単電池型一体鋳造電池に関する。一体鋳造電池は、本願明細書において“一体鋳造ケース”と呼ぶ特別に設計された電池ケース内に配置される複数の電気化学単電池を備える。好ましくは、本発明の一体鋳造ケースは、非導電性材料で形成される。使用できる材料の実施例は、プラスチック材料及びセラミック材料を含む。使用できる特定の材料は、米国特許第5,800,945号明細書に記載されており、該明細書の開示は本願明細書に引用する。
図4は、上記コンテナの底部417と共に一体型構造体として一体形成されている固定分割壁418を示す、上記側壁と平行な、本発明の一体鋳造コンテナの実施形態の一部の断面図である。
図5Dに示す構成について説明すると、分割専用壁507は、上記コンテナの内部を複数の単電池隔室505に分割する。そのため、単電池隔室505の各々は、分割専用壁507によって、隣接する単電池隔室から隔離されている。分割専用壁の各々は、固定分割壁であり、コンテナのいずれかの側壁(または、場合により端壁)に、および/またはコンテナ底部に、一体型構造体として一体形成されている。好ましくは、分割専用壁は、側壁に、かつ底部に、一体型構造体として一体形成されている。そのため、隣接する単電池隔室間には、一方の単電池隔室からの電解液が、隣接する隔室に入ることができないように、実質的に液密なシールが存在する。また、図に示すように、固定された分割専用壁は、製造プロセスを容易にするために、好ましくは全て、抜け勾配で形成される。
Claims (30)
- 電池ケースの内部を複数の隔室に分割する1つ以上の分割壁を含む電池ケースと、
前記ケース内に配置された複数の電気化学単電池と、
を備える多重単電池型の電池であって、
前記電池ケースが、少なくとも2つの前記隔室からの単電池ガスをガス排出孔へ運ぶガス流路を備え、前記ガス流路が、蛇行した流路を有する、多重単電池型の電池。 - 前記ガス流路が、前記ケースに一体化されている、請求項1に記載の電池。
- 前記ガス流路が、前記ケースの蓋に一体化されている、請求項1に記載の電池。
- 前記ガス流路が、前記ケースの側部に一体化されている、請求項1に記載の電池。
- 前記ガス流路が、前記ケースの上部に一体化されている、請求項1に記載の電池。
- 前記ガス流路が、ジグザグの流路を有する、請求項1に記載の電池。
- 前記電気化学単電池が、ニッケル金属水素電気化学単電池である、請求項1に記載の電池。
- 前記電解液がアルカリ電解液である、請求項1に記載の電池。
- 前記流路が、前記ケースの外面に一体化された複数の突出部によって形成されている、請求項1に記載の電池。
