Abstract

Description
この式において、「Rwhite」及び「Rblack」は、それぞれ、オン状態及びオフ状態におけるピクセルの覆われていない領域の反射率であり、「被覆率」は、オン状態においてオイルが占めている領域である。オイルの残留が約25%である場合、白及び黒の反射率の関数として以下のコントラスト値を得ることができる。
この式において、Ioは入射光強度、Iは透過光強度、Cは濃度、lは光路長である。従って、濃度が1リットル当たりのモル数M(mol/L)で表され、長さの単位がcmであるとき、εの単位はM−1cm−1である。
この式において、εは染料の固有な消散係数であり、Cはオイル相に溶けている染料のモル濃度M(mol/L)である。
Claims (6)
- 第1の透明な支持板(3)と第2の支持板(4)との間の空間内に、互いに混ざり合わない少なくとも1つの第1の流体(5)及び第2の流体(6)を備えている光学スイッチであって、前記第2の流体が導電性又は極性を有し、前記第1の流体が、染料を含んでいるオイルであり、前記染料の濃度が0.2M(mol/L)以下である、光学スイッチ。
- 前記染料の濃度が0.1M以下である、請求項1に記載の光学スイッチ。
- 前記染料の濃度が0.01M以上である、請求項1に記載の光学スイッチ。
- 前記オイルが、シリコンオイル、炭化水素オイル、フルオロカーボンオイルから成る群のうちの少なくとも1つを含んでいる、請求項1又は2に記載の光学スイッチ。
- 複数の流体からなる流体層は、前記第1の流体の層厚が10μmである場合に、前記染料の消散係数ε(L・mol-1・cm-1)と前記第1の流体に溶けている前記染料の濃度C(L-1・mol)との乗算で定義される性能指数FoMが102cm−1以上である、請求項1又は2に記載の光学スイッチ。
- 第1の透明な支持板と第2の支持板との間の空間内に、互いに混ざり合わない少なくとも1つの第1の流体及び第2の流体を有する画素を備えているディスプレイデバイスであって、前記第2の流体が導電性又は極性を有し、前記画素が、請求項1又は2に記載の光学スイッチを有する、ディスプレイデバイス。
