Abstract

Claims (19)
- アレイ状に配列された複数のLEDダイ(71)を含む光源であって、各LEDが励起波長を有する光を発し、該光源が円錐状の角度内に光を発する、光源と、
上面、底面、及び縁面を有する透光性材料層を含むライトパイプ(73)であって、前記縁面を通る円錐状の角度内の光を受光し、及び前記所定の円錐状の角度内の前記光が前記上面から全反射されるように、位置決めされており、前記円錐状の角度内の前記光の一部を所定の角度で方向転換させて、該方向転換された光の一部が前記上面を通って出るようにする機構を含む、ライトパイプ(73)と、
前記上面上を覆う光変換層(60)であって、前記励起波長の光を該励起波長とは異なる波長を有する出力スペクトルの光へと変換する、光変換層(60)と
を含む装置。 - 前記ダイ(71)が直線状のアレイに配列されている、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記光変換層(60)が、透光性媒体中に懸濁したリン化合物の粒子を含む、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記粒子が前記励起波長よりも小さい最大断面寸法を有する、請求項3に記載の装置。
- 前記励起波長の光を前記ライトパイプ(73)内へ反射する一方で前記光変換層を出る他の波長の光を透過させるリフレクタ(61)を更に含み、該リフレクタ(61)が前記光変換層(60)上に位置している、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記底面の下に位置するリフレクタ(79)を更に含み、該リフレクタ(79)が前記励起波長の光と前記出力スペクトル内の波長を有する光を反射する、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記光変換層(60)が、透光性媒体中に溶解した可溶性リン化合物を含む、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記励起波長が490nm未満である、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記励起波長が200〜485nmである、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記励起光の一部が前記光変換層(60)を出て、該励起光の一部が該光変換層(60)に入る前記励起波長の光の10%よりも多い、請求項9に記載の装置。
- 前記光変換層(60)上に位置するディスプレイ層(50)を更に含み、該ディスプレイ層(50)が前記光変換層(60)から出る光によって照明される、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記ディスプレイ層(50)が透明なものからなる、請求項11に記載の装置。
- 前記出力スペクトルが人間の観察者によって白色光として知覚されるものである、請求項12に記載の装置。
- 前記ディスプレイ層(50)がLCDディスプレイを含み、前記出力スペクトルが赤色、青色、及び緑色の光を含む、請求項11に記載の装置。
- 表面を照明するための方法であって、
上面、底面、及び縁面を有する透光性材料層を含むライトパイプ(73)の前記縁面を照明し、該縁面が、円錐状の角度内で励起波長の光を受光し、該円錐状の角度内の該光が前記上面から全反射されるようになっており、
前記上面から反射された前記光の一部を該上面を通って出るよう方向転換させ、
前記上面を出る前記光の一部を前記励起波長とは異なる波長を有する出力スペクトル内の光に変換し、
前記出力スペクトル内の前記光が前記表面を照明するよう該表面を位置決めする、
という各ステップを含む、表面を照明するための方法。 - 前記励起波長の前記光を直線状のアレイに配列された複数のLEDから生成する、請求項15に記載の方法。
- 照明すべき前記表面に到達することになる前記励起波長の光をその到達前に前記ライトパイプ(73)内へ反射させると共に、前記出力スペクトル内の前記光が前記照明すべき表面に到達することを可能にするステップを更に含む、請求項15に記載の方法。
- 前記励起波長の前記光が、前記ライトパイプ(73)上に位置する燐光体層を照明することにより前記出力スペクトル内の光へと変換される、請求項15に記載の方法。
- 前記ライトパイプ(73)の前記底面を出る光を該ライトパイプ(73)内へ反射させるステップを含む、請求項15に記載の方法。
