Abstract
【解決手段】液晶変調素子の対向する電極間に封止された液晶に、変調データに基づいてパルス幅変調された駆動信号による交番電界を印加して、前記液晶をスタティック駆動するにあたって、液晶に印加される交番電界が一方の極性である第1の期間T1では、第1のオン電圧VDおよび第1のオフ電圧VA(ただし、VD>VA、VAはゼロでない)の2値レベルでパルス幅変調を行い、液晶に印加される交番電界が他方の極性である第2の期間T2では、第2のオン電圧−VDおよび第2のオフ電圧−VAの2値レベルでパルス幅変調を行う。

Claims (7)
- 液晶変調素子の対向する電極間に封止された液晶に、変調データに基づいてパルス幅変調された駆動信号による交番電界を印加して、前記液晶をスタティック駆動するにあたって、
前記液晶に印加される交番電界が一方の極性である期間では、第1のオン電圧および第1のオフ電圧の2値レベルでパルス幅変調を行い、前記液晶に印加される交番電界が他方の極性である期間では、前記第1のオン電圧および前記第1のオフ電圧とそれぞれ異なる第2のオン電圧および第2のオフ電圧の2値レベルでパルス幅変調を行うことを特徴とする液晶光変調素子の駆動方法。 - 前記第2のオン電圧は、前記第1のオン電圧と逆の極性で、かつ同じ絶対値であり、前記第2のオフ電圧は、前記第1のオフ電圧と逆の極性で、かつ同じ絶対値であり、前記第1のオン電圧と前記第1のオフ電圧は同じ極性であり、前記第2のオン電圧と前記第2のオフ電圧は同じ極性であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶光変調素子の駆動方法。
- 前記第1のオフ電圧および前記第2のオフ電圧は、前記液晶に印加される電圧の変化に対して前記液晶を通過する光の位相が変化し始めるときのバイアス電圧であり、前記第1のオン電圧および前記第2のオン電圧は、前記液晶を通過する光の位相変化量に対応するパルス幅を有する電圧であることを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載の液晶光変調素子の駆動方法。
- 対向する前記電極は、コモン信号が印加されるコモン電極と、セグメント信号が印加されるセグメント電極であり、前記セグメント信号は、第1のセグメント電圧と第2のセグメント電圧の2値電圧レベルでパルス幅変調された信号であり、前記コモン信号は、前記第1のセグメント電圧に前記バイアス電圧を加算した第1のコモン電圧と、前記第2のセグメント電圧に前記バイアス電圧を減算した第2のコモン電圧の2値レベルの信号であり、前記セグメント信号と前記コモン信号の差分を前記駆動信号として前記液晶に印加することを特徴とする請求項3に記載の液晶光変調素子の駆動方法。
- 液晶変調素子の対向するコモン電極とセグメント電極の間に封止された液晶に、変調データに基づいてパルス幅変調された駆動信号による交番電界を印加して、前記液晶をスタティック駆動する駆動装置であって、
変調データに基づいて、前記セグメント電極に印加するセグメント信号を生成するセグメント駆動回路と、
極性信号に基づいて、前記コモン電極に印加するコモン信号を生成するコモン駆動回路と、
前記セグメント駆動回路にパルス幅変調を行う際のタイミングを制御するクロック信号を供給するとともに、前記コモン回路に前記極性信号を供給する制御回路と、
前記セグメント駆動回路に電圧増幅を行うための直流電圧を供給する第1の直流電源、並びに前記コモン回路に、前記第1の直流電源によって生成される電圧にバイアス電圧を重畳した直流電圧を、電圧増幅を行うための電圧として供給する第2の直流電源および第3の直流電源を含むアナログ電源回路と、
を備えることを特徴とする液晶光変調素子の駆動装置。 - 前記第2の直流電源および前記第3の直流電源は、可変直流電源であることを特徴とする請求項5に記載の液晶光変調素子の駆動装置。
- 前記第2の直流電源および前記第3の直流電源は、前記液晶の特性変動を補正するための補正信号に基づいて、前記液晶の特性変動を打ち消すように前記バイアス電圧を変化させることを特徴とする請求項6に記載の液晶光変調素子の駆動装置。
