Abstract
【解決手段】単位画素領域A毎に形成された薄膜トランジスタTrと,基板100上に薄膜トランジスタTrを覆って形成された絶縁膜135と,絶縁膜135上に,薄膜トランジスタTrのドレイン電極130bと接続されて,少なくとも薄膜トランジスタTrのゲート電極110上部の一部を覆うように形成された画素電極140と,画素電極140上に形成された液晶層155と,を具備し,画素電極140に段差ができて傾斜構造を有することにより,対面基板とのギャップが低減して転移電圧が減少し,液晶の配向角度が増加して転移核形成が容易になる。

Description
図1Aは第1の実施の形態によるアレイ基板の概略平面図である。図1Aを参照すると,単位画素領域Aを具備する基板にはそれぞれの単位画素領域A毎に薄膜トランジスタTrが位置する。それぞれの薄膜トランジスタTrは走査信号線であるゲートライン1と映像信号線であるソースライン3と連結されて配線から入力される信号によって動作するようになる。
図4は第2の実施の形態によるアレイを形成した基板の概略平面図であって,図5は図4のI−I’部の断面図である。図4,5を参照すると,第2の実施の形態は,第1の実施の形態とは違って,画素電極141がゲート電極110の一部を覆うだけでなく,薄膜トランジスタTrの上部全体を覆う構造を有する。したがって,薄膜トランジスタTr境界面周辺に位置する画素電極141は,所定の傾斜角を有することができる。

Claims (14)
- 複数の単位画素領域を有する基板上のそれぞれの前記単位画素領域毎に形成された薄膜トランジスタと,
前記基板上に前記薄膜トランジスタを覆って形成された絶縁膜と,
前記絶縁膜上に,前記薄膜トランジスタのドレイン電極と接続されて,少なくとも前記薄膜トランジスタのゲート電極上部の一部を覆うように形成された画素電極と,
前記画素電極上に形成された液晶層と,
を具備することを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記液晶層は,OCBモードの液晶層であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記液晶層と前記画素電極との間には配向膜が介在し,前記配向膜は,所定のプレチルト角を有することを特徴とする,請求項2に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記配向膜のプレチルト角は,6〜10度であることを特徴とする,請求項3に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記画素電極は,前記薄膜トランジスタ上部全体を覆うように形成されることを特徴とする,請求項1〜4のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記絶縁膜は,無機絶縁膜であることを特徴とする,請求項1〜5のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記画素電極の,前記薄膜トランジスタの前記ゲート電極上部の位置と,前記薄膜トランジスタから離隔した位置との段差は,0.2〜0.5μmであることを特徴とする,請求項1〜6のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。
- 複数の単位画素領域を具備する基板上のそれぞれの前記単位画素領域毎に薄膜トランジスタを形成する段階と,
前記基板上に前記薄膜トランジスタを覆って絶縁膜を形成し,前記絶縁膜に前記薄膜トランジスタのドレイン電極を露出するビアホールを形成する段階と,
前記絶縁膜上に導電膜を積層後,前記導電膜をパターニングし,前記薄膜トランジスタのドレイン電極と連結されて,少なくとも前記薄膜トランジスタのゲート電極上部の一部を覆う画素電極を形成する段階と,
画素電極が形成された前記基板上に対向基板を付着し,前記基板と前記対向基板との間に液晶層を注入する段階と,
を含むことを特徴とする,液晶表示装置の製造方法。 - 前記液晶層は,OCBモードの液晶層であることを特徴とする,請求項8に記載の液晶表示装置の製造方法。
- 前記基板と前記対向基板との間に前記液晶層を注入する段階の前に,前記画素電極上に所定のプレチルト角を有する配向膜を形成する段階をさらに含むことを特徴とする,請求項9に記載の液晶表示装置の製造方法。
- 前記配向膜のプレチルト角は,6〜10度であることを特徴とする,請求項10に記載の液晶表示装置の製造方法。
- 前記画素電極は,前記薄膜トランジスタ上部全体を覆うように形成することを特徴とする,請求項8〜11のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置の製造方法。
- 前記絶縁膜は,無機絶縁膜であることを特徴とする,請求項8〜12のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置の製造方法。
- 前記画素電極の,前記薄膜トランジスタの前記ゲート電極上部の位置と,前記薄膜トランジスタから離隔した位置との段差は,0.2〜0.5μmであることを特徴とする請求項8〜13のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置の製造方法。
