Abstract
【解決手段】非磁性基体1上に、少なくとも非磁性下地層2、磁気記録層3、保護膜4を順次形成してなる垂直磁気記録媒体において、前記磁気記録層3は、垂直磁気異方性定数(Ku値)を1×105erg/cm3以下とした低Ku領域31の層と、前記Ku値を1×106erg/cm3以上とした高Ku領域32の層とからなるものとする。また、前記磁気記録層3は、強磁性金属からなる結晶粒を磁気的に分離する非磁性酸化物を含む非磁性粒界を有するものとする。

Description
(実施例1)
非磁性基体として、2.5インチディスク形状の化学強化ガラス基板を用い、これを洗浄後スパッタ装置内に導入し、Arガス圧2.66Pa(20mTorr)下で、膜厚20nmのRuからなる非磁性下地層をDCマグネトロンスパッタ法により形成した。次に、Arガス圧を0.67Pa(5mTorr)とし、90モル%(78Ni-18Fe-4Mo)-10モル%SiO2(括弧内の数字はat%, 以下同じ)ターゲットを用いて、RFマグネトロンスパッタ法により低Ku領域を形成した。膜厚は0から10nmの間で変化させた。

本実施例は、本発明の磁気記録媒体のオーバーライト特性の検証に関わる。

Claims (7)
- 非磁性基体上に、少なくとも非磁性下地層、磁気記録層、保護層を順次形成してなる垂直磁気記録媒体において、前記磁気記録層は、垂直磁気異方性定数(Ku値)を1×105erg/cm3以下とした低Ku層と、前記Ku値を1×106erg/cm3以上とした高Ku層とからなることを特徴とする垂直磁気記録媒体。
- 請求項1に記載の垂直磁気記録媒体において、前記高Ku層は、Coを主成分とし、少なくともPtを添加し、かつ六方最密充填の結晶構造を有する合金薄膜からなり、この膜面に平行な優先結晶配向面を(002)面としたことを特徴とする垂直磁気記録媒体。
- 請求項1に記載の垂直磁気記録媒体において、前記高Ku層は、それぞれ膜厚が2nm以下のCo合金とPtまたはPdを主成分とする合金とを交互に積層した積層膜からなり、かつこの膜面に平行な優先結晶配向面を(111)面としたことを特徴とする垂直磁気記録媒体。
- 請求項1ないし3のいずれか1項に記載の垂直磁気記録媒体において、前記高Ku層は、強磁性金属からなる結晶粒と、この結晶粒を磁気的に分離する非磁性粒界とからなり、前記非磁性粒界は主成分として非磁性酸化物を含むことを特徴とする垂直磁気記録媒体。
- 請求項1ないし4のいずれか1項に記載の垂直磁気記録媒体において、前記低Ku層は、面心立方格子の結晶構造を有する金属または合金薄膜からなり、この膜面に平行な優先結晶配向面を(111)面としたことを特徴とする垂直磁気記録媒体。
- 請求項1ないし5のいずれか1項に記載の垂直磁気記録媒体において、前記低Ku層は、強磁性金属からなる結晶粒と、この結晶粒を磁気的に分離する非磁性粒界とからなり、前記非磁性粒界は主成分として非磁性酸化物を含むことを特徴とする垂直磁気記録媒体。
- 請求項1ないし6のいずれか1項に記載の垂直磁気記録媒体において、前記低Ku層の飽和磁化(Ms値)と前記高Ku層のMs値との比を、0.8〜1.2としたことを特徴とする垂直磁気記録媒体。
