Abstract
【解決手段】本発明にかかるIPS方式の液晶表示装置は、アレイ基板1上の周辺領域3の各配線の単位面積あたりの占有面積を、表示領域2の各配線の単位面積あたりの占有面積と比較しほぼ同等、または大きくしている。この結果、アレイ基板1上の周辺領域3を透過する光の単位面積あたりの透過量Ifを、表示領域2を透過する光の単位面積あたりの透過量Ipとほぼ同等、または、透過量Ipと比較し少なくし、透過量Ifを調整し、不純物イオンの周辺領域3から表示領域2への移動を低減している。そして、輝度ムラ、特に白色表示を行った場合に表示領域2の周縁部発生する赤ムラの発生を防止している。

Description
まず、実施の形態1にかかる液晶表示装置について説明する。実施の形態1では、周辺領域における配線構造の単位面積あたりの占有面積を表示領域とほぼ同等、または表示領域と比較し大きくすることによって、表示領域および周辺領域においてアレイ基板を透過する光の量を調整し、輝度ムラの原因と考えられる不純物イオンの移動を制御している。図1は、本実施の形態1である液晶表示装置のアレイ基板の平面図を示した図である。
実施の形態1では、周辺領域および表示領域における配線構造の単位面積あたりの占有面積を調整することによって周辺領域から表示領域への不純物イオンの移動を抑制し赤ムラを低減していたが、実施の形態2では、カラーフィルタ層の抵抗率比を調整することによって表示領域内の不純物イオンの部分的な偏りを抑制し、白色表示時における赤ムラを低減している。
実施の形態1,2では、発生した不純物イオンの移動および部分的な集中を防止することによって白色表示時における赤ムラの発生を低減していたが、実施の形態3では不純物イオンの放出を低減することによって白色表示時における赤ムラの発生を抑制している。

Claims (7)
- 光源と、表示領域と前記表示領域の周囲に位置する周辺領域とを有するアレイ基板と、異なる波長透過性を有する複数の光透過層を備えたカラーフィルタと、液晶分子を主成分とする液晶層と、前記液晶分子を所定方向に配向させる配向膜とを備えた画像表示装置において、
前記周辺領域は、前記光源から発光され前記アレイ基板を透過する光の単位面積あたりの量が、前記表示領域とほぼ同等、または、前記表示領域と比較し少ないことを特徴とする画像表示装置。 - 前記アレイ基板は、
前記表示領域上に配置された第1の遮光性配線構造と、
前記周辺領域上に配置され、単位面積あたりの占有面積が前記第1の遮光性配線構造の単位面積あたりの占有面積と比較し、ほぼ同等、または、大きい第2の遮光性配線構造とを備えたことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の画像表示装置。 - 前記第1の遮光性配線構造と前記第2の遮光性配線構造とは、駆動素子と受動素子と配線との少なくともいずれか一つを含むことを特徴とする請求項2に記載の画像表示装置。
- 光源と、表示領域と前記表示領域の周囲に位置する周辺領域とを有するアレイ基板と、異なる波長透過性を有する複数の光透過層を備えたカラーフィルタと、液晶分子を主成分とする液晶層と、前記液晶分子を所定方向に配向させる配向膜とを備えた画像表示装置において、
前記光透過層は、最も低い抵抗率を有する前記光透過層の抵抗率と最も高い抵抗率を有する前記光透過層の抵抗率との比が、前記表示領域を透過する光の単位面積あたりの量と前記周辺領域を透過する光の単位面積あたりの量との差に基づいて設定されることを特徴とする画像表示装置。 - 光源と、表示領域と前記表示領域の周囲に位置する周辺領域とを有するアレイ基板と、異なる波長透過性を有する複数の光透過層を備えたカラーフィルタと、液晶分子を主成分とする液晶層と、前記液晶分子を所定方向に配向させる配向膜とを備えた画像表示装置において、
前記配向膜は、前記表示領域上のみに形成されることを特徴とする画像表示装置。 - 前記アレイ基板と平行な電界を形成する横電界方式の液晶表示装置であることを特徴とする請求項1〜6のいずれか一つに記載の画像表示装置。
