Abstract
改良された再帰反射偏光子の提供。
【解決手段】
再帰反射偏光子は、構造化材料上に塗布された光学的な薄膜からなり、入射光線を、偏光された成分(18−s,18−p)、即ち、偏光子を通る1つの成分(18−p)と、光源に戻るもう一方の成分(18−s)へ分離する。

Description
(a)並んで配列された本質的に直角の2等辺の係数のプリズムの直線的な配列からなる構造化表面を有し、この構造化平面と反対の平滑な表面への接面に関してほぼ45゜の角度を形成する垂直な係数の面を有する第1の材料と、
(b)本質的に第1の材料と同じ第2の材料と、
(c)少なくとも1つの材料の構造化平面上にあり、選択された光学的な厚さの高屈折率材料及び低屈折率材料の交互に重なる層からなる少なくとも1つの光学的な堆積とからなり、
第1及び第2の材料は、全て光学的に接合され、単一ユニットを形成し、この単一ユニットにおいて、第1及び第2の材料の屈折率及び上記光学的堆積の複数の層の上記屈折率及び光学的厚さは、偏光された光の選択的な反射を生成するように全て選ばれて、
(d)上記光学的な堆積の1部の内部において、混合された偏光の入射光線が、s−偏光成分及びp−偏光成分に分離され、
(e)上記s−偏光成分は、上記光学的な堆積の他の部分で反射され、その部分で入射光線に平行に反射されるが、入射光と逆の方向に進み、
(f)上記p−偏光成分は、入射光線に対して平行に透過する
ことを特徴とする再帰反射偏光子。
(図2において、入射光18の成分18−s及び18−pへの分割は、基板及び合成光学堆積の間の最初の界面で生じるように示されているが、これは、図示のみのためである。実際には、若干の分割は、薄膜間の各界面において起こり、図示されるような正味の結果を生じる。)

本発明は、偏光されていない光源から得られる偏光された光の強度の増加から利益をうける偏光を要求する用途、特に、比較的広い範囲にわたる偏光された光を要求する、及び/または比較的小型(特に薄い)な用途に適する。

Claims (4)
- (a)並んで配列された本質的に直角の2等辺の係数のプリズムの直線的な配列からなる構造化表面を有し、この構造化平面と反対の平滑な表面への接面に関してほぼ45゜の角度を形成する垂直な係数の面を有する第1の材料と、
(b)本質的に第1の材料と同じ第2の材料と、
(c)少なくとも1つの材料の構造化平面上にあり、選択された光学的な厚さの高屈折率材料及び低屈折率材料の交互に重なる層からなる少なくとも1つの光学的な堆積とからなり、
第1及び第2の材料は、全て光学的に接合され、単一ユニットを形成し、この単一ユニットにおいて、第1及び第2の材料の屈折率及び上記光学的堆積の複数の層の上記屈折率及び光学的厚さは、偏光された光の選択的な反射を生成するように全て選ばれて、
(d)上記光学的な堆積の1部の内部において、混合された偏光の入射光線が、s−偏光成分及びp−偏光成分に分離され、
(e)上記s−偏光成分は、上記光学的な堆積の他の部分で反射され、その部分で入射光線に平行に反射されるが、入射光と逆の方向に進み、
(f)上記p−偏光成分は、入射光線に対して平行に透過する
ことを特徴とする再帰反射偏光子。 - 共通の光軸に沿って設けられた
(a)混合された偏光の入射光の光源と、
(b)反射板と、
(c)1/4波長遅延板と、
(d)請求項1の再帰反射偏光子
(e)偏光された光を用いる表示装置からなり、
p−偏光成分は、表示装置に伝送され、s−偏光成分は、1/4波長遅延板を反射板に通り抜け、1/4波長遅延板を通って戻り、表示装置に進む前に、第2のp−偏光成分となる光学システム。 - 薄い反射光源と、
液晶表示パネルを含む表示装置と、
上記の反射光源と上記の表示装置の間に位置され、第1偏光状態の光を液晶表示パネルの方に透過し、第2の偏光状態の光を反射光源の方に反射する薄い偏光膜と
からなるバックライトコンピュータ表示装置。 - 上記の偏光膜は、第1の偏光状態の可視スペクトルの光の約80%を透過し、第2の偏光状態の可視スペクトルの光の約95%を反射することを特徴とする請求項3に記載されたバックライトコンピュータ表示装置。
