プロセスの一部として、プラスチックチューブを加熱す
るための部品としてかかるシステムに使用される。連結
プロセスに使用されるとき、ウエハーは、溶融した端部
を押し合わせて単一チューブを形成するように、チュー
ブ端部を分離してチューブ端部を溶融させるように加熱
する。
離は医療技術分野に関連して行われる。或る環境下で
は、ウエハーは単一用途ウエハーとする必要がある。Th
e UnitedStates Food and Drug Administrationは例え
ば、或る条件の下ではウエハーの如き装置の複数回の使
用を禁止する要件(requirements)をもつ。
ーを1回のみ使用できることを保証する特に有利な仕方
を開示している。その特許に記載している如く、ウエハ
ーは感知材料をその中に入れて置く開口部を備える。連
結/分離作業の間ウエハーは感知器を通過する。感知器
が開口部内に材料があることを感知したとき該プロセス
は継続する。しかし、もし材料が開口部内になければ、
材料の不在が感知され、該プロセスは装置を不作動化す
ることによって停止させられる。米国特許第5,52
5,186号に開示された特定の感知材料は加熱された
ときに溶融する材料である。従って、ウエハーが初めて
使用されるとき感知材料は最初は開口部内にあり、感知
器によって検出される。引き続き、ウエハーが加熱され
ると、感知材料は溶融し、開口部内にはもはや何の材料
もない。もし同じウエハーを再使用しようと試みるなら
ば、感知器は材料の不存在又は開いた孔又は開口部を感
知するだろう。
内に感知材料又はヒューズ材料を備えることを開示して
おり、その場合、感知材料は加熱前に1組の光透過特性
をもち、そしてウエハーが加熱された後に異なった光透
過特性をもつ。従って、感知器はまだ加熱されていない
ウエハーについての適切な光透過特性を感知し、そして
また、ウエハーが加熱された後に結果として生じる異な
った光透過特性を感知するだろう。これは、米国特許第
5,525,186号ではウエハーが加熱された後に材
料は溶融し、開口部が完全に開く点で、米国特許第5,
525,186号とは異なる。しかし米国特許第5,8
71,612号では、ウエハーが加熱された後に材料は
まだ開口部内に留まっているが、加熱前にそれがもって
いたものとは異なった光透過特性をもっている。米国特
許第5,871,612号の感知材料は、アルミニウム
の如き限定された光透過特性をもつ材料の被覆をもつマ
イラの如き透明なベース材料を含む2層型積層体であ
る。この材料は銅ウエハーの孔又は開口部内に置かれ
る。ウエハーが加熱されると、材料は溶融し、それによ
って光がヒューズ孔を通過できるようになす。米国特許
第5,871,612号のヒューズ材料は当該技術分野
で明確な進歩を示すが、その効率に影響する若干の欠点
をもつ。例えば、もしアルミニウム層が被覆巻き上げ(c
oating wind up)、スリッティング又は押し抜きプレス
加工から受ける如き過大な引っ掻き傷を付けられるなら
ば、この引っ掻き傷は光濃度に大幅な変動を生せじめ
る。更に、積層体が2層型式のものであるため、これら
の層を感知器に関して適切に方向付けすることに注意を
払わなければならない。
特許第5,871,612号に記載された2層型積層体
の欠点を解消するヒューズ構造をもつウエハーを提供す
ることにある。
可能の層を保護するかかるウエハーを提供することにあ

なる如きウエハーを提供することにある。
ズ材料は溶融可能の層の各側にベース層又は支持層をも
つ3層型積層体である。好適には、マイラの如き同じ材
料が外層の各々用に使用される。この仕方では、中間層
は引っ掻き傷付けされないよう完全に保護される。同様
に、3層の対称的構造に因り、ウエハー開口部内におけ
るこれらの層の方向付けは重大ではなくなる。
25,186号と第5,871,612号に開示された
ウエハーの改変構造を提供することを意図している。前
記特許の詳細は参考資料として本願に組み込むものとす
る。一般に、本発明はプラスチックチューブの連結/分
離用の部品としてウエハーを使用する装置の作業を可能
にするか又は阻止するためのヒューズとして作用する感
知材料の用途を含む。

翼状部16とほぼ1線に整列した前記側部の各々上のス
コップ部18を含む。翼状部とスコップ部は溶融したチ
ューブに接触する位置でウエハー上に置かれる。
ルダー20中に取り付けられる。その目的は米国特許第
5,279,685号に記載される如く、ウエハーの初
期移動の間に、キャリッジ内にウエハーを据え付けるこ
とにある。作用を説明すれば、ホルダー20中に据え付
けられたウエハー10は下流側に動かされる。このウエ
ハーは後でホルダー20から取り外される。その加熱作
業をなした後、ウエハーはこの装置から除去される。そ
の移動中、ウエハー10は図3に示す感知ステーション
22を通過する。感知ステーション22はウエハー10
の開口部26の移動経路内に据え付けられた感知器24
を含む。前記感知器24、更に詳細には開口部26を通
る光量又は光透過量を感知する。かかる感知は、例えば
主ウエハー材料12の電圧の示数と異なっている完全に
開いた孔又は開口部26の電圧示数と異なっている電圧
示数によることができる。もし感知器24が開口部26
を通して透過する光の適切な量を表す適切な電圧を検出
しないならば、該装置は不作動化される。このことは、
ウエハー10が以前に使用されたものであり、もはや適
切な透過特性の感知材料をもっていないか、又は製造欠
陥があり、感知材料が開口部26の上(中)に取り付け
られていなかったことの何れかを意味する。

30と同じ追加の外層34を含む。中間層32は積層体
構造28を完成させる。層32は支持層30又は34の
うちの一方上の被覆とすることができ、アルミニウムの
如き限定された光透過特性をもつ収縮可能の材料から作
られる。
ーズ材料が入れて置かれる開口部の部分が一側部におい
て他側部よりより大きな寸法をもつような仕方で取り付
けられるヒューズ材料を開示している。この場合、かか
る取り付け技術は複合体28についても使用することが
できる。図3、4は積層体を開口部26内に取り付け状
態で保持するために一側部12に複数の支柱36を含む
取り付け構造を示す。支柱36は積層体の各側部に又は
好適には一側部にのみ備えることができる。
並置された側部12、12を作るようそれ自身の上に折
り重ねられたウエハー構造を使用することによって、一
側部上のみに設けられる。従って、積層体28は、図3
に示される右側層12の如き層12の側部のうちの一方
の側部中の開口部26A内に置くことができる。次い
で、ウエハーはそれ自身の上に折り重ねられ、第2の側
部12は開口26Aより小さい開口26Bをもち、従っ
て図3に明示する如く、複合体28の外縁より内方へ周
囲が延びている。支柱36は複合体28をより大きい開
口部26Aの開口部内に保持する。
によって両側で保護されるので、許容基準を超えた引っ
かき傷を層に付ける問題は解消される。従って、このよ
うにしない場合には被覆巻き上げ、スリッティング又は
押し抜きプレス加工によって生じ得る引っかき傷は回避
される。外層30、34が互いに同じに作られる場合、
ウエハー中における複合体28の方向付けに関する問題
は生じない。
ることがなく、従って光学濃度の変化性はもたないの
で、他の場合には2層型積層体において生じるかも知れ
ない問題を何れも回避する。本発明は、各ウエハーヒュ
ーズが使用済のウエハーを誤って指示する過剰の引っか
き傷をもたないことを保証するために光学試験用取り付
け具を使用する検査を含む2層型積層体用に使用される
高度の検査をする必要性を排除する。2層型ヒューズに
付随するもう1つの問題は、かかるヒューズ又は積層体
が、特にアルミニウム被覆された側が銅に向き合ってい
るときにウエハーにくっつかないペレットに完全に溶け
込む傾向をもつということである。本発明の3層型積層
体28では、上記問題は軽減される。第1に、アルミニ
ウム層32は引っかき作用を受けない。第2に、マイラ
(mylar) 又はPETは溶融して、離脱せずに銅にくっつ
く。第3に、両側面付きのマイラはヒューズのアルミニ
ウム側をウエハーから離れる向きにする必要性を無くす
る。積層体28は好適には、2.8ミルのアルミニウム
被覆をされたPET基体であり、2.8ミルの透明PE
Tフイルムをおおい1.7±0.1の光学濃度をもつ。

が加えられると、前記配向は解消され、マイラ層はアル
ミニウム層をそれらと一緒に携えて収縮し始める。マイ
ラ層は銅ウエハーの或る部分にくっつき、そして収縮し
て他の部分から離れるという傾向がある。図5は例え
ば、ある程度収縮した後に積層体28がとる不規則な形
状を示し、これは開いた溶融収縮区域38を残してい
る。図6は4.8ボルトを印加した後の積層体28を示
す。この積層体層は収縮している。より大きな量収縮し
ており、より大きな溶融収縮区域38を残している。

Claims (13)
- 【請求項1】 プラスチックチューブを選択的に連結、
分離するための装置に使用するウエハーであって、前記
ウエハーが対向する側部をもつ加熱可能の平らなプレー
トの形をなし、開口部が前記側部を完全に通して延在し
ており、ヒューズが前記開口部内に置かれており、前記
ヒューズは3層の積層体材料からなり、前記材料は前記
ウエハーの加熱の前に前記開口部を覆いそして前記ウエ
ハーの加熱の後には前記開口部を覆った状態に留まり、
前記ヒューズは前記ウエハーの加熱の後に増大したその
光透過特性をもつことを特徴とするウエハー。 - 【請求項2】 前記積層体は光透過特性を各々がもつ一
対の外層と、前記外層の前記光透過特性とは異なる光透
過特性をもつ中間層を含み、前記層は加熱されたとき収
縮して、光が前記開口部を通過するのを可能にする溶融
収縮区域を作り、それによって前記積層体の結果として
生じる光透過特性が前記積層体が加熱された後増大させ
られることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のウエハー。 - 【請求項3】 前記外層の各々は透明材料から作られる
ことを特徴とする請求項2に記載のウエハー。 - 【請求項4】 前記外層の各々は同じ材料から作られ、
同じ光透過特性をもつことを特徴とする請求項2に記載
のウエハー。 - 【請求項5】 前記開口部は前記外層のうちの一方に並
置された前記積層体の1側部上の第1の孔と、前記外層
のうちの他方に並置された前記積層体の反対の側部に形
成された第2の整列した孔とによって形成されたことを
特徴とする請求項4に記載のウエハー。 - 【請求項6】 前記第1の孔は前記第2の孔より大きい
寸法をもつことを特徴とする請求項5に記載のウエハ
ー。 - 【請求項7】 前記開口部中に前記積層体を取り付けて
維持するために前記第1の孔に複数の支柱を含むことを
特徴とする請求項6に記載のウエハー。 - 【請求項8】 前記外層の各々はマイラから作られ、前
記中間層はアルミニウムから作られることを特徴とする
請求項7に記載のウエハー。 - 【請求項9】 前記開口部は前記外層のうちの一方の外
層に並置された前記積層体の1側部上の第1の孔と、前
記外層のうちの他方の外層に並置された反対の側部に形
成された第2の整列した孔とによって形成されることを
特徴とする請求項7に記載のウエハー。 - 【請求項10】 前記第1の孔は前記第2の孔より大き
い寸法をもつことを特徴とする請求項9に記載のウエハ
ー。 - 【請求項11】 前記積層体を前記開口部中に取り付け
て維持するために前記第1の孔に複数の支柱を含むこと
を特徴とする請求項10に記載のウエハー。 - 【請求項12】 前記側部は前記プレートをそれ自身の
上に折り曲げることによって形成されることを特徴とす
る請求項11に記載のウエハー。 - 【請求項13】 前記側部は前記プレートをそれ自身の
上に折り曲げることによって形成されることを特徴とす
る請求項1に記載のウエハー。
