Abstract

1,258,627. Unwinding apparatus. GLANZSTOFF A.G. 29 April, 1969 [10 May, 1968], No. 21681/69. Heading D1J. A ply of parallel, closely adjacent cords 4 wound on a bobbin 1 with a metal band 3 wound between the layers, is delivered to a processing machine, e.g. for coating with rubber to make tyre plies by unwinding the bobbin by taking up the metal band on a second bobbin 2 driven by a variable-speed motor 34 the speed of which is controlled by an arm 5 in accordance with the size of a loop of the ply between the bobbin 1 and tension applying means. The ply passes over a guide 6, through a comb 7, over a magnetic plate 8, and around frictionally braked rollers 11, 12, 13 to the processing machine. The bobbin 1 may be braked to prevent over-running. Bobbins 1 and 2 and their supports are identical, and may be removed from base-plate 29, a new bobbin being wound using the metal band.
