Abstract

The package also has a tying yarn wound around its middle region, and is supported around a spindle on a platform whilst the tape and tying yarn are wound onto separate spools. The spools are driven at different rates by a common drive motor via gearing so that the tying yarn and tape are wound up at different rates to compensate for the difference in dia. of the package between the middle and ends, and thereby maintain the tape and tying yarn taught. The platform is pref. continuously braked to further maintain the tape and tying yarn taught, and a sensor plate continuously senses the leading hank during winding-off and deactuates the drive motor whilst the leading hank is removed. Winding-off is accurately controlled.
