Abstract

999,953. Centrifugal separators. FLOTTWEG - MOTOREN - WERK DR. GEORG BRUCKMAYER. July 13, 1964 [July 11, 1963], No. 28856/64. Heading B2P. A solid bowl centrifuge is provided with a set of separator plates which also constitute the carrier for the solids discharge screw. In Fig. 5, a helical strip 7 is inserted in grooves which are machined in the edge portions of the plates. In Fig. 3, the helical thread is formed of four quadrant shaped portions 5 which are mounted on sheet metal parts 6 which serve to space the plates from one another and protrude beyond the outer periphery of the plates. In Fig. 7, a hollow shaft 11 rotating at a speed different from the bowl 10 carries two scrolls 12, 13 and a set of plates 20. A liquid-solids mixture introduced at 14 passes via openings 16 into a settling chamber from which the coarser solids are discharged through openings 17 by means of the scroll 12. The liquid and finer solids pass via one or more ports 18 into a chamber 19 where separation takes place between the plates 20. The clarified liquid leaves through one or more openings 23. The plates are spaced apart by sheet metal parts, the ends of which protrude beyond the outer periphery of the plates and are shaped into helical form to form an interrupted screw which conveys the finer solids towards the scroll 13 by which they are discharged through an opening 22. The plates may be provided with a number of discharge screws.
