Abstract

866,853. Centrifugal strainer separators. CONSTRUCTIONS GUINARD. March 10, 1959 [March 14, 1958], No. 8208/59. Class 46. [Also in Group XIII] In a centrifuge for separating solid particles from a liquid in which they are held in suspension, a zone or zones is/are provided in which the particles are made to pass through sheet-like ejections of washing liquid. As shown, a centrifuge comprised a rotatable frusto-conical member 3, 4, Fig. 1, having two series of helical ribs 6, 7, an apertured basket 1 disposed around said member and rotatable in the same direction but at a different speed, and an annular gutter member 9 clamped between the frustum parts 3, 4 from which washing liquid is adapted to discharge into the annular zone between the ribs 6, 7. The liquid is supplied from a central source through borings 16 to an annular chamber 15, whence it is flung outwardly through radial borings 20 on the underside of a part 10 of the member 9 to a space 23 before issuing as a horizontal sheet 24. In a modified machine two sheets 34, 35, Fig. 2, of washing liquid issue from a gutter member 25. In a centrifuge having three series of vertically spaced ribs and, therefore, two zones, washing liquid, supplied from a common source within the frusto-conical member, issues from a member such as 25 located in each zone.
