Abstract
738,394. Centrifugal separators. SLEE, F. J. Nov. 16, 1953 [Nov. 21, 1952], No. 29534/52. Class 23. In a separator for separating solid particles from liquid in a circulating system, the major part of the liquid supplied to the rotor is discharged through reaction nozzles to drive the rotor, and the remainder of the liquid passes through a chamber within the rotor for the separation of the particles. The rotor D revolves on bearings D<SP>1</SP>, F about a fixed spindle B having passages B<SP>2</SP>, B<SP>3</SP> for supply of oil to a chamber J separated from the chamber H by a partition G. The major part of the oil supplied to the chamber J is discharged by the reaction nozzles K and the remainder of the oil passes through the annular gap at the edge of the partition or through holes in the partition to the chamber H from whence it is discharged through passages B<SP>5</SP>, B<SP>4</SP> in the spindle. Coarse and fine particles are collected in the chambers J, H respectively. The axial position of the partition may be adjusted, and the flow through the chambers may be varied by substituting different sized nozzles, by providing partitions of different sizes or having different sized apertures, or by control of the effective size of the passage B<SP>4</SP>. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 668,766.
